1. You're a clumsy, ham-fisted idiot!Copy !req
2. I said sorry!Copy !req
3. What? Come out!
And don't touch anything!Copy !req
4. I'm only trying to open the door.Copy !req
5. Oh, I say!Copy !req
6. We've gone!Copy !req
7. - Who's gone?
- I mean, this isn't...Copy !req
8. We aren't where we were when...Copy !req
9. I've gone mad!Copy !req
10. That's how I felt the first time!Copy !req
11. Where are we, Doctor?Copy !req
12. No idea.Copy !req
13. A little trip to the moon, you said,
just to prove to Harry...Copy !req
14. I didn't expect him to start messing
with the helmic regulator.Copy !req
15. Come away from there, Harry!Copy !req
16. - You could sell that thing, Doctor.
- I could WHAT?Copy !req
17. Jolly useful in Trafalgar Square.Copy !req
18. - Hundreds of bobbies inside...
- Harry! Stop burbling...Copy !req
19. What?Copy !req
20. Sorry... shock, I suppose.Copy !req
21. I must say, I feel very strange.Copy !req
22. Not much oxygen.
Still, nothing to worry about.Copy !req
23. Suffocation
is nothing to worry about (?)Copy !req
24. We can survive for quite a time yet.Copy !req
25. While you play with that yo-yo?Copy !req
26. Just a simple gravity reading, Sarah.Copy !req
27. Yes, almost certainly we're inside
some kind of artificial satellite...Copy !req
28. - Isn't that interesting?
- Not very.Copy !req
29. - I think it is.
- It's dark, cold and airless...Copy !req
30. All we have to do
is get the power back on.Copy !req
31. Let's see what's over here.Copy !req
32. Might as well go for a look round.Copy !req
33. - Are you coming?
- We better stick with the Doctor.Copy !req
34. Yes! That's better.Copy !req
35. Incredible!Copy !req
36. I say! What's all that for?Copy !req
37. I've never seen anything quite like it.Copy !req
38. Hey, Doctor!Copy !req
39. Definitely built on Earth,
but I can't place the period.Copy !req
40. - Doctor, look!
- In a minute, Sarah!Copy !req
41. None of it seems to work now, anyway!Copy !req
42. Judging by the macro-slave driveCopy !req
43. and that modified version
of the Bennett oscillator,Copy !req
44. I'd say this was built
in the... early 30th century.Copy !req
45. - Oh, no...
- You don't agree?Copy !req
46. Early 30th century?Copy !req
47. Late 29th, early 30th, I feel sure.Copy !req
48. Doctor!Copy !req
49. Doctor!Copy !req
50. There's hardly any air in here!Copy !req
51. Doctor! Please...Copy !req
52. Doctor, I'm a simple sort of chap...Copy !req
53. Are you trying to tell me we're now
in the middle of the 30th century?Copy !req
54. Goodness heavens, no!
Well beyond that!Copy !req
55. Beyond the 30th!Copy !req
56. You gave that helmic regulator
quite a twist, I'm afraid.Copy !req
57. Well, WHERE are we?Copy !req
58. It's difficult to say.Copy !req
59. All this stuff's obviously been here
for some time -Copy !req
60. several thousand years at least.Copy !req
61. What was that?Copy !req
62. Doctor, I can't...Copy !req
63. breathe...Copy !req
64. Sarah?Copy !req
65. Where's she got to?Copy !req
66. - In the Tardis?
- Impossible. I've got the key.Copy !req
67. I've told her
about going off by herself. Sarah?Copy !req
68. Well, there's only one door,Copy !req
69. and I swear
she didn't go out that way...Copy !req
70. Must be another exit, then.Copy !req
71. Hidden deck hatch or something?Copy !req
72. Vacuum-tight panel, more likely -Copy !req
73. used them a lot
in these early space vessels.Copy !req
74. Just as I thought!Copy !req
75. - No doorknob?
- There must be a remote control...Copy !req
76. You haven't touched anything,
have you, Harry?Copy !req
77. Me?Copy !req
78. There are only two of us
and your name is Harry (!)Copy !req
79. - I did just... touch one switch.
- Which switch?Copy !req
80. - Nothing happened...
- Which switch?Copy !req
81. Which switch...?Copy !req
82. I think it was...Copy !req
83. Perhaps it was...Copy !req
84. Try to remember, Harry!Copy !req
85. I am! It's awfully difficult!
I can hardly breathe!Copy !req
86. Think where you were standing.Copy !req
87. - It was this one.
- Sure?Copy !req
88. - But nothing happened.
- Go on! Press it.Copy !req
89. Crikey! She's cyanosed.Copy !req
90. No air in here.
Help me to get her back.Copy !req
91. Quick!Copy !req
92. Now what'll we do?Copy !req
93. There must be a reverse mechanism.Copy !req
94. I've always hated sliding doors,Copy !req
95. ever since I caught my nose in one
in Pompey Barracks!Copy !req
96. - How is she?
- She'll be OK if we get her out.Copy !req
97. - Must be a broken circuit.
- What?Copy !req
98. Nothing.Copy !req
99. - Nothing's working properly.
- Oh?Copy !req
100. I've found the oxygen supply.Copy !req
101. Well done!Copy !req
102. No good, Harry.Copy !req
103. No luck, eh?Copy !req
104. Why is nothing functioning here?Copy !req
105. Couldn't we smash our way out
or something?Copy !req
106. - With our bare hands?
- It's all my fault.Copy !req
107. I got us into this, Harry.Copy !req
108. I've not got enough puff
to argue with you...Copy !req
109. Then, lie down and conserve
the oxygen, while I do what I can.Copy !req
110. - That's odd.
- What?Copy !req
111. These cables have been sheared
clean through.Copy !req
112. Oxygen-valve servo-mechanism.Copy !req
113. Yellow, black, green...Copy !req
114. Yellow, black, green...Copy !req
115. Yellow, black, green...Copy !req
116. Harry...Copy !req
117. Harry!Copy !req
118. Is she... she OK?Copy !req
119. Just in time. Are you feeling better?Copy !req
120. Convalescent. All I need now
is a couple of weeks at the seaside.Copy !req
121. Good. Give me a hand
to lay her on that couch.Copy !req
122. - It's nearer the vents.
- Good thinking.Copy !req
123. I'll just repair
the rest of those cables.Copy !req
124. Sheared, you said?Copy !req
125. Or bitten.Copy !req
126. What?Copy !req
127. There's a mystery here, Harry.Copy !req
128. Something happened a long time ago.Copy !req
129. - Bitten?
- It looks like it.Copy !req
130. The interesting question is why?Copy !req
131. Clearly deliberate,
therefore done for a purpose.Copy !req
132. Therefore, whatever it was
had a reasoning intelligence.Copy !req
133. And very large teeth!Copy !req
134. Splendid!Copy !req
135. Now let's see if that panel works.Copy !req
136. All systems go, wouldn't you say?Copy !req
137. - She's coming round.
- Good.Copy !req
138. Steady on, old girl, steady on.Copy !req
139. - Harry...?
- Yes, I'm here.Copy !req
140. Call me "old girl" again...Copy !req
141. .. and I'll spit in your eye.Copy !req
142. Welcome back, Sarah Jane.Copy !req
143. Couldn't breathe...Copy !req
144. Drop of brandy
would be the thing now.Copy !req
145. There's some in the Tardis.Copy !req
146. You'll be as right as ninepence
in a minute.Copy !req
147. - We're going to get you some brandy.
- Eugh! I hate brandy!Copy !req
148. Doctor, do you think
you could persuade her...?Copy !req
149. - I say! What's that?
- Get down, Harry!Copy !req
150. - Crikey! What is it?
- Keep your head down!Copy !req
151. Doctor!Copy !req
152. We seem to be trapped, Harry.Copy !req
153. What is it?Copy !req
154. Some sort of automatic guard.Copy !req
155. I hadn't bargained on this
when I repaired the circuits.Copy !req
156. I wonder...Copy !req
157. Of course! That's why they were cut
in the first place!Copy !req
158. - What about Sarah?
- Tell her to stay where she is.Copy !req
159. Sarah! Sarah?
Can you hear me, old girl?Copy !req
160. Keep away from the door! Understand?
Keep away from the door!Copy !req
161. Where am I?Copy !req
162. Welcome, sister. Welcome to Nerva.Copy !req
163. No, do not move.Copy !req
164. It is dangerous to move
from the tranquiller couch.Copy !req
165. Please remain in contact
with the biocryonic vibrations.Copy !req
166. In five minutes, the final phase
of your processing must commence.Copy !req
167. If you have any personal possessions
that you wish to have preserved,Copy !req
168. please place them in the casket
adjacent to your right hand.Copy !req
169. Shortly, you will hear the recorded
voice of the High MinisterCopy !req
170. speaking personally to you.Copy !req
171. At the conclusion
of the Minister's message,Copy !req
172. there will be
a two-minute interregnumCopy !req
173. preceding the commencement
of irradiation.Copy !req
174. Apparently,
it's not activated by movement...Copy !req
175. unless what moves is organic.Copy !req
176. Hardly helps us! We're organic!Copy !req
177. Not down here we're not, Harry!Copy !req
178. Ah, yes! Good piece
of logical deduction, Doctor!Copy !req
179. Thank you (!)Copy !req
180. Greetings, Citizen Volunteer.Copy !req
181. This is the High Minister speakingCopy !req
182. on behalf of the World Executive.Copy !req
183. I salute you who are about to make
the supreme sacrifice.Copy !req
184. In a few minutes,
you will pass beyond life.Copy !req
185. In case
there is any fear in your heart,Copy !req
186. any doubt in your mind
at this awesome moment,Copy !req
187. let me remind you that
you take with you all our pasts.Copy !req
188. You carry the torch
that has been handed downCopy !req
189. from generation to generation...Copy !req
190. What's happening?Copy !req
191. Where are we going with it?Copy !req
192. To the far wall.Copy !req
193. - Inch it round your end.
- OK.Copy !req
194. One slip, Harry,
and we'll be charcoal.Copy !req
195. - Psst, there it is.
- What?Copy !req
196. Trouble is
we can't reach it from here.Copy !req
197. - What can't we reach?
- The auto-guard cut-out.Copy !req
198. Look - up there! See?Copy !req
199. Never mind. The faithful old scarf...Copy !req
200. Bad luck. Jolly good try, though.Copy !req
201. It isn't a game of cricket, Harry (!)Copy !req
202. Sorry.
Mind you, if I had a cricket ball,Copy !req
203. I'd jolly soon knock that switch...Copy !req
204. Will this do?Copy !req
205. Watch this, then!Copy !req
206. Organic, of course.Copy !req
207. Afraid so.Copy !req
208. Now what?Copy !req
209. There's only one thing left.
Risky, but it might work.Copy !req
210. You don't want your other shoe,
do you?Copy !req
211. - I suppose not.
- Slip it off.Copy !req
212. Right... Now, I want you to throw it
across the room...Copy !req
213. when I give the word. Understand?Copy !req
214. All right.Copy !req
215. I'm going to try and distract it.Copy !req
216. Let's hope it's not double-barrelled!Copy !req
217. - Ready?
- Ready.Copy !req
218. Now!Copy !req
219. I think we've done it, Harry!Copy !req
220. Pity about the scarf.Copy !req
221. Madame Nostradamus made it for me.Copy !req
222. A witty little knitter!Copy !req
223. All right, Sarah,
you can come out now.Copy !req
224. Never get another one like it.Copy !req
225. Look at my shoes!Copy !req
226. Sarah!Copy !req
227. What a fool! Of course!Copy !req
228. - What is it?
- Why didn't I realise?Copy !req
229. Short-range matter transmitter.Copy !req
230. The strange thing is, Harry,
it's only for internal relay.Copy !req
231. I haven't the foggiest
what you're on about.Copy !req
232. Never mind. It just means
Sarah can't be far away.Copy !req
233. All we've got to do
is find her. Come on!Copy !req
234. I think we'll try this way first.Copy !req
235. - I say, what about the armoury?
- Not very likely.Copy !req
236. This is a sterile area! Keep out!Copy !req
237. It's just like a hospital.Copy !req
238. Well, ought we, do you think?Copy !req
239. Don't be nervous, Harry.Copy !req
240. - What is it?
- I saw something moving.Copy !req
241. - Nonsense, Harry!
- I'm positive I saw something move.Copy !req
242. - Trick of the light.
- It wasn't a trick of the light!Copy !req
243. I saw something moving...Copy !req
244. It's like the trail
left by a gastropod mollusc.Copy !req
245. - A slug?
- Or a snail.Copy !req
246. That size?Copy !req
247. Impossible! It couldn't have got
through this grille.Copy !req
248. Very interesting.
A multinucleate organism.Copy !req
249. Eh?Copy !req
250. Let's find Sarah first. Come on.Copy !req
251. This looks promising...Copy !req
252. She's obviously not in here.Copy !req
253. Decontamination chamber.
Might make you feel a bit dizzy.Copy !req
254. I think we're getting warm, Harry.Copy !req
255. Animal and botanic!Copy !req
256. Of course! That explains everything.Copy !req
257. Do you realise what this is?Copy !req
258. - Aren't you feeling better?
- No, I'm not.Copy !req
259. Pull yourself together.
This is fascinating!Copy !req
260. This is a cryogenic repository.Copy !req
261. A repository? For what?Copy !req
262. Everything... Well, everything
they considered worth preserving.Copy !req
263. Look at this!Copy !req
264. Microfilm.Copy !req
265. It's a complete record.Copy !req
266. Music, history, architecture,
literature, engineering...Copy !req
267. Incredible!Copy !req
268. The entire body
of human thought and achievement.Copy !req
269. Yes, but what's it all for?Copy !req
270. Posterity? I don't know.Copy !req
271. Why build all this
and send it into space?Copy !req
272. Couldn't be some sort
of survival kit, could it?Copy !req
273. Survival?Copy !req
274. You know - the sort
of thing they shove in lifeboats.Copy !req
275. You're improving, Harry!Copy !req
276. Am I really?Copy !req
277. Yes, your mind is beginning to work.
It's entirely due to my influence.Copy !req
278. You mustn't take any credit.
Now, what's missing?Copy !req
279. Missing?Copy !req
280. If we are to assume that some
great cataclysm struck EarthCopy !req
281. and that, before the end,
they launched this lifeboat,Copy !req
282. the obvious missing element
is man himself.Copy !req
283. What's happened
to the human species?Copy !req
284. I say! What a place for a mortuary!Copy !req
285. This isn't a mortuary, Harry.
Quite the reverse.Copy !req
286. The reverse?
Well, I'd hardly call it a nursery!Copy !req
287. - Cryogenic chamber.
- What?Copy !req
288. Old principle, but I've never seen it
applied on this scale. Look at them!Copy !req
289. There must be hundreds here.Copy !req
290. Well, when you've seen one corpse,
you've seen them all.Copy !req
291. Corpse? These people aren't dead,
Harry - they're asleep.Copy !req
292. The entire human race
awaiting the trumpet blast!Copy !req
293. Dead as a doorknocker!Copy !req
294. Homo sapiens.Copy !req
295. What an inventive, invincible species.Copy !req
296. It's only a few million yearsCopy !req
297. since they crawled up out of the mud
and learned to walk.Copy !req
298. Puny, defenceless bipeds...Copy !req
299. They've survived flood and famine
and plague,Copy !req
300. they've survived cosmic wars
and holocausts,Copy !req
301. and now here they are,
out among the stars,Copy !req
302. waiting to begin a new life,
ready to outsit eternity.Copy !req
303. They're indomitable!Copy !req
304. Indomitable!Copy !req
305. What do you think you're doing?Copy !req
306. Sorry to contradict you, Doctor.
Not a flicker of life.Copy !req
307. Suspended animation.Copy !req
308. There are no metabolic functions
at all. Look at him!Copy !req
309. I mean, even in the deepest coma,Copy !req
310. the hair and fingernails
continue to grow. The epidermis...Copy !req
311. Total suspension, Harry.Copy !req
312. You can't survive 10,000 years
in a coma.Copy !req
313. 10,000 years?Copy !req
314. 50,000 years, 100,000 -
time is immaterial.Copy !req
315. It's an amazing sight, isn't it?Copy !req
316. The entire human race in one room.Copy !req
317. All colours, all creeds -
all differences finally forgotten.Copy !req
318. Are you serious?
The entire human race?Copy !req
319. Well, its chosen descendants.Copy !req
320. The operation must have been
meticulously planned. Come on.Copy !req
321. Where are we going now?Copy !req
322. First to find Sarah,Copy !req
323. then shut down the systems.
We're intruders here.Copy !req
324. Just a minute...Copy !req
325. Are you telling me
this is where it's going to end?Copy !req
326. Not end, Harry, just a pause.Copy !req
327. But there are only
a few hundred corp... bodies in here.Copy !req
328. I mean, what's happened
to the rest of humanity?Copy !req
329. Some global catastrophe?Copy !req
330. Yes, and they saw it coming,Copy !req
331. and made provision
as best they could.Copy !req
332. Don't forget - it's something
for you to be proud of.Copy !req
333. Doctor, look!Copy !req
334. Oxygen?Copy !req
335. Radiant heat?Copy !req
336. But this deep in space?
I wonder...Copy !req
337. Perhaps it's some sort of mould?Copy !req
338. - Mould?
- That trail we saw in the corridor.Copy !req
339. And that thing you saw moving
in the corridor?Copy !req
340. Dust! That grille thing
was a dust extractor.Copy !req
341. We opened the door
after umpteen yearsCopy !req
342. and caused a bit of a draught.Copy !req
343. Mmm, very convincing (!)Copy !req
344. All the same,Copy !req
345. I think we'll just check
a few of the beds while we're here.Copy !req
346. What are we checking for, exactly?Copy !req
347. Just to make sure
that everything's in order.Copy !req
348. Right-o.Copy !req
349. Doctor!Copy !req
350. What have you found?Copy !req
351. Sarah!Copy !req
352. - Oh, Sarah Jane...!
- We can't help her now.Copy !req
353. No.Copy !req
354. She'll be like that
for 3,000 years at least.Copy !req
355. Even if we had a resuscitation unit,Copy !req
356. it's doubtful
if we could revive her now.Copy !req
357. There must be something we can do!Copy !req
358. What would a resuscitation unit
look like?Copy !req
359. Very like an oxygen cylinder.Copy !req
360. You'll recognise it if there is one.Copy !req
