1. Look at me.
You can't win, because
Copy !req
2. I'm the one that's Buff!
You are number two.
Copy !req
3. I'm the man, look at it.
Take your time.
Copy !req
4. Marcus Bagwell
began his wrestling career
Copy !req
5. as a handsome hero...
Copy !req
6. Alright!
Copy !req
7. A fan favourite for
audiences to root for,
Copy !req
8. but given the chance
to become a villain. ..
Copy !req
9. Buff Bagwell of the NWO!
Copy !req
10. The vain and arrogant
Buff Bagwell was born.
Copy !req
11. The bigger I made it,
the more exaggerated
Copy !req
12. I made it,
the better it got.
Copy !req
13. He just turns up the volume
on his own personality.
Copy !req
14. Marcus, he's really a person
to sit down and talk to.
Copy !req
15. 'Buff the Stuff' is
an arrogant asshole.
Copy !req
16. Wow, I look good.
Copy !req
17. Working out, tanning, cars.
Copy !req
18. Is this it?
Copy !req
19. Girls.
Copy !req
20. He's entertainingly
obnoxious.
Copy !req
21. I love myself more than
anybody I can think of.
Copy !req
22. After his wealthy parents
lost their fortune,
Copy !req
23. Marcus turned to wrestling
to recapture the lavish
Copy !req
24. lifestyle of his childhood,
and brought his whole family
Copy !req
25. along for the ride.
Copy !req
26. My mom and dad
worked for me.
Copy !req
27. - Mama's back.
Copy !req
28. - What's her first name?
- Judy.
Copy !req
29. She was like my mom,
slash, secretary.
Copy !req
30. There's probably so
many stories out there,
Copy !req
31. it's just... blow your mind.
Blow your mind.
Copy !req
32. It was dysfunctional, yes.
Copy !req
33. Jerry Springer would just
love to go to their house
Copy !req
34. and hang out.
Copy !req
35. I come into the picture,
WCW shuts down,
Copy !req
36. and he goes off
the deep end.
Copy !req
37. The combination
of injuries. ..
Copy !req
38. - Oh my goodness.
- Oh!
Copy !req
39. and substance abuse,
Copy !req
40. sent Marcus' career
into a nosedive.
Copy !req
41. Desperate to maintain
his lifestyle,
Copy !req
42. he boldly
ventured into a
Copy !req
43. controversial
new profession.
Copy !req
44. I have heard the rumour
that Marc was a male whore.
Copy !req
45. When Gigolos happened,
Copy !req
46. that hurt me to my soul.
Copy !req
47. I was the best functioning
addict in the world,
Copy !req
48. until I wasn't.
Copy !req
49. I thought to myself, I'm not
going to be shocked when
Copy !req
50. somebody calls me and
tells me Marc has passed.
Copy !req
51. He achieved so
much so fast,
Copy !req
52. and he fell just as fast.
Copy !req
53. So this is my
mother's office and
Copy !req
54. it's full of
Bagwell memories.
Copy !req
55. My wrestling career,
my dad's racing.
Copy !req
56. Right here is
Rookie of the Year,
Copy !req
57. and up there is my
Tag Team of the Year.
Copy !req
58. This is just memories that
were spread out throughout
Copy !req
59. decades, and she got 'em
all into one room.
Copy !req
60. You know, she did
all of this, this is all
Copy !req
61. because of the way
Judy Bagwell was.
Copy !req
62. The organization,
the, the drive.
Copy !req
63. Wow.
Copy !req
64. Where'd it go, man?
Copy !req
65. Our family, we were told
from a very young age
Copy !req
66. that we were special.
Copy !req
67. It was just known
that we were
Copy !req
68. going to be somebody.
Copy !req
69. Hey, I'm Marcus
Alexander Bagwell,
Copy !req
70. a.k.a. "Buff" Bagwell.
I'm Buff and I'm the stuff.
Copy !req
71. It's a freak thing that
he got into wrestling.
Copy !req
72. Marcus was a all-county
football and baseball player.
Copy !req
73. He wrestled a little bit, he
wasn't on the wrestling team.
Copy !req
74. I'm Steve Bagwell and
Copy !req
75. I'm Marcus Bagwell's father.
Copy !req
76. We had three sons.
Copy !req
77. Marcus was the youngest.
Copy !req
78. Marcus developed
slower than they did,
Copy !req
79. where he was so scared
he wasn't gonna get big.
Copy !req
80. But I kept telling him,
Copy !req
81. "Work at it and you'll
get there." You know?
Copy !req
82. We tried to be
like our father.
Copy !req
83. You know, he was a very
successful drag racer.
Copy !req
84. Self-made millionaire.
Copy !req
85. He just had a aura about
himself of, of power.
Copy !req
86. We were always
watching sports.
Copy !req
87. We watched wrestling.
Copy !req
88. It was definitely on our TV,
but it wasn't even, like,
Copy !req
89. an inkling of doing that
for a business or a career.
Copy !req
90. Back in the day,
they were very known.
Copy !req
91. They owned
Southeastern Lumber.
Copy !req
92. Everyone wanted to get
their lumber there.
Copy !req
93. This is Mark 'Slick' Johnson
Copy !req
94. from WCW and
TNA Wrestling.
Copy !req
95. I've been friends with Marcus
Bagwell for a long time.
Copy !req
96. Probably known him
since I was...
Copy !req
97. 18, 19.
Copy !req
98. I don't think there was many
people you met in Marietta
Copy !req
99. that did not know
who the Bangles were.
Copy !req
100. My name is Tonya Bagwell,
Copy !req
101. and I was Marc Bagwell's
first wife.
Copy !req
102. I was 18, he was 18...
Copy !req
103. and we just hit it off,
you know,
Copy !req
104. it just fit like a glove.
Copy !req
105. He's just a loving person.
Copy !req
106. We all wanted to go over
to Marc Bagwell's house.
Copy !req
107. The guy had a pool room,
a theatre room,
Copy !req
108. a batting cage,
a tennis court.
Copy !req
109. His dad buys him a brand
new Corvette at 15...
Copy !req
110. and is able to drive it
back and forth to school.
Copy !req
111. I wanted him to have the
things I didn't have,
Copy !req
112. and I had the money
to do it, so I did.
Copy !req
113. We were spoiled rotten,
Copy !req
114. but we were not
spoiled brats.
Copy !req
115. He didn't get
away with nothing.
Copy !req
116. He still got in trouble.
Copy !req
117. His dad wasn't
gonna raise a pussy.
Copy !req
118. If we did anything wrong,
you got your ass whipped.
Copy !req
119. My father whipped me once,
Copy !req
120. my mother whipped me
a thousand times.
Copy !req
121. And we were
scared of her.
Copy !req
122. She was fearsome,
for sure, and fearless.
Copy !req
123. If she likes you,
she likes you.
Copy !req
124. If she don't,
she don't.
Copy !req
125. There was no in
between with her.
Copy !req
126. This is a woman that ran a
215 employee lumber yard.
Copy !req
127. I've seen a hundred truck
drivers walk in and think,
Copy !req
128. "This lady's the boss?"
Copy !req
129. And within about
2 minutes, you know,
Copy !req
130. they knew who the boss was,
and they were shutting up.
Copy !req
131. Well,
let me say this...
Copy !req
132. you don't —-
with Judy Bagwell.
Copy !req
133. She'll give you the
shirt off her back,
Copy !req
134. but she'll knock you
down with the other hand.
Copy !req
135. Steve's the same way.
Steve's more calm,
Copy !req
136. except when he
loses a poker bet.
Copy !req
137. Yeah, he had poker over
there all the time.
Copy !req
138. One time we're all
up in Marc's room,
Copy !req
139. and we just hear,
"Goddamnit"!
Copy !req
140. He lost, like,
the main card bet.
Copy !req
141. Goes and grabs
the machine gun,
Copy !req
142. and the front of his house,
they have two doors.
Copy !req
143. He kicks those
two doors open,
Copy !req
144. and there's geese out in
the lake and finally
Copy !req
145. he just unloads on 'em.
Copy !req
146. I hear—
a machine gun going off.
Copy !req
147. And so I'm thinking,
"Oh my God,
Copy !req
148. somebody's robbing us."
Got my 45, I bridge it,
Copy !req
149. put one in it, and by the
time I get to the front door
Copy !req
150. with my gun, it's my
father is like Scarface.
Copy !req
151. Feathers are
going everywhere.
Copy !req
152. So he emptied the clip,
and I'm going, "Dad?"
Copy !req
153. That's a true story.
Copy !req
154. I just remember being
in Marc's room and
Copy !req
155. his dad would
come up and he's like,
Copy !req
156. "Alright, where
are y'all going"?
Copy !req
157. I said, "We're going to club,
and we want to go,
Copy !req
158. we're going here and
we're going there."
Copy !req
159. And he'd reach in
his pocket,
Copy !req
160. break out about five or
six bags of cocaine.
Copy !req
161. He said,
"Here you go, boys.
Copy !req
162. Y'all have fun tonight.
Stay out of trouble."
Copy !req
163. He just was scared
we were gonna get hurt,
Copy !req
164. and he knew where he was
getting his from and
Copy !req
165. felt better
about helping us.
Copy !req
166. That was crazy.
Copy !req
167. Good times though,
good times.
Copy !req
168. As the Bagwell's
business struggles,
Copy !req
169. Judy reveals to her husband
that the family's finances
Copy !req
170. are in serious trouble.
Copy !req
171. She'd gone out and got
three or four loans,
Copy !req
172. 250 grand a piece.
Copy !req
173. She convinced the bankers
that she could pay this back
Copy !req
174. and it'll all be okay.
Well, it all went kaboom.
Copy !req
175. I had enough money,
I thought,
Copy !req
176. to live the rest of my life,
you know, and comfortably.
Copy !req
177. I never would
have dreamed it.
Copy !req
178. You know,
that it could happen.
Copy !req
179. My father made it very clear
that we were going broke,
Copy !req
180. and the brothers were at
their houses at this stage.
Copy !req
181. So it was just me, my mom,
and my dad at the house.
Copy !req
182. But it was hard,
hard times.
Copy !req
183. I mean, they were fighting
all the time, and...
Copy !req
184. it was just, things were,
things were,
Copy !req
185. things were getting
ready to explode.
Copy !req
186. You could just feel it.
Copy !req
187. Basically, the arguments
just got worse and worse.
Copy !req
188. My wife, Judy,
went out the door,
Copy !req
189. got in one of our vehicles
and fixin' to leave, and
Copy !req
190. I followed her out and I said,
"Where are you going"?
Copy !req
191. She said, "I'm leaving."
I said,
Copy !req
192. "Not in my car you're not."
And I said,
Copy !req
193. "If you try to,
I'll shoot the tire."
Copy !req
194. I'm upstairs and I
hear my mom.
Copy !req
195. "Marc! Marc!
Help me! Help me"!
Copy !req
196. You know? And I go running
downstairs, you know.
Copy !req
197. We've been going through
shit, now he's beating up mom,
Copy !req
198. and I'm trying to
solve that problem,
Copy !req
199. and I'm just flipped
as well, you know?
Copy !req
200. And Marc said, "Dad,
back off of Mom."
Copy !req
201. And I saw a gun
in his hand.
Copy !req
202. I said, "What are you
doing with a gun"?
Copy !req
203. He said, "I just want you
to back off Mom." You know?
Copy !req
204. And I said,
"You'd shoot me"?
Copy !req
205. He said, "No, sir,
unless I have to."
Copy !req
206. And I always
kept a handgun
Copy !req
207. on top of the refrigerator.
Copy !req
208. He—
he bolted.
Copy !req
209. Right for the refrigerator.
Copy !req
210. So, as soon as
he got there,
Copy !req
211. we followed him
into the kitchen.
Copy !req
212. Now he's got
a gun on me.
Copy !req
213. He's like, "Come on,
big man. Come on."
Copy !req
214. I go, "Put the gun down,
man." I said,
Copy !req
215. "You're just gonna end up
killing one of us and
Copy !req
216. going to prison, bro.
Copy !req
217. This ain't gonna do
nothing." You know?
Copy !req
218. Of course I was mad
at that time and...
Copy !req
219. I just kept on and on.
Copy !req
220. First thing I knew,
he was popping caps at me.
Copy !req
221. My plan was to
kill my father.
Copy !req
222. The first shot probably
would have killed me,
Copy !req
223. because it would
have hit right there.
Copy !req
224. But as I could see him
fixin' to shoot,
Copy !req
225. I put my hand right there.
Copy !req
226. And it took an inch and a
half of this little bone
Copy !req
227. right here, seeing
two scars there?
Copy !req
228. And then he shot
four more times.
Copy !req
229. I could hear the bullets
zinging by my head.
Copy !req
230. it was something that I
just couldn't believe
Copy !req
231. was happening,
you know?
Copy !req
232. 'Cause Marc and I had been
so close all our lives
Copy !req
233. since he was born.
Copy !req
234. But he was tight with
his mom, too. You know?
Copy !req
235. Oh yeah, yeah.
Copy !req
236. They had to take a, a bone
graft off my hip and
Copy !req
237. put it in my, in here to
fill this hand.
Copy !req
238. And, and they got,
I got a silver plate there
Copy !req
239. that holds it all together.
Copy !req
240. My mom's like,
"Please call your dad.
Copy !req
241. Please call your dad."
And I'm like,
Copy !req
242. "Mom, I'm not calling him.
You know, I don't feel bad.
Copy !req
243. I'm not wrong. I don't, I got
no re- no remorse at all."
Copy !req
244. It was a little
while before we did.
Copy !req
245. Probably three
or four months.
Copy !req
246. He called me up.
Dad calls me,
Copy !req
247. and he goes,
"Just want you to know,
Copy !req
248. you're 100% right
on what you did.
Copy !req
249. You did nothing wrong.
Copy !req
250. You're protecting your mom
and your, and yourself."
Copy !req
251. I told him it was all my
fault, 100%.
Copy !req
252. If I'd have backed off
the whole thing
Copy !req
253. wouldn't have happened,
you know?
Copy !req
254. We had a rough
couple years,
Copy !req
255. but we've been best
friends ever since.
Copy !req
256. With his parents no longer
able to support him,
Copy !req
257. Marcus moves out
of the family home,
Copy !req
258. marries his high school
sweetheart, Tonya,
Copy !req
259. and finds a whole new
way to make a living.
Copy !req
260. Marc was a male stripper
right after high school.
Copy !req
261. I wasn't ashamed
of it all.
Copy !req
262. I was, I was very happy to
show my body off and
Copy !req
263. make money with
showing my body.
Copy !req
264. We had just moved into
Poplar Place Apartments
Copy !req
265. and that's how
he met Missy.
Copy !req
266. I was looking for an
apartment north of Atlanta,
Copy !req
267. and we pull up and there's
this hot guy in these, like,
Copy !req
268. short shorts and
a little tank top.
Copy !req
269. And I was like,
"Wherever he lives,
Copy !req
270. I want to live by him."
Copy !req
271. I'm Missy Hyatt, the
First Lady of wrestling,
Copy !req
272. and I discovered
Buff Bagwell.
Copy !req
273. I was in WCW.
Copy !req
274. I was a manager for
the Steiner brothers,
Copy !req
275. 'Hot Stuff' Eddie Gilbert,
and then the Nasty Boys.
Copy !req
276. But my main part was
I was the first female
Copy !req
277. to be an announcer.
Copy !req
278. This is Missy Hyatt's
second attempt to
Copy !req
279. get a locker room
interview.
Copy !req
280. Marcus came up to me
one day and he's like,
Copy !req
281. "Hey Missy, my brother
wants to be a wrestler."
Copy !req
282. And I'm like,
"Your brother"?
Copy !req
283. I've never seen
his brother.
Copy !req
284. And I'm like, "Why don't
you become a wrestler"?
Copy !req
285. And I go, "Those guys
don't make no money."
Copy !req
286. And she goes, "Our lowest
paid guy makes
Copy !req
287. $100,000 a year."
And I was like, "What"?
Copy !req
288. So she found a guy named
Steve 'The Brawler' Lawler,
Copy !req
289. and he trained me.
Copy !req
290. I was working at a club as
a dancer, which I hated,
Copy !req
291. but he couldn't work
and still train and
Copy !req
292. do all that in wrestling.
Copy !req
293. So the deal was, if you work
this short period of time,
Copy !req
294. get me through, you know,
this wrestling school
Copy !req
295. when I get my
first contract,
Copy !req
296. you'll never have
to work again.
Copy !req
297. She supported me to get
me into the business,
Copy !req
298. and the catch was then
I would take care of her
Copy !req
299. from that point on.
Copy !req
300. Cried every night
coming home from work.
Copy !req
301. I hated it, I hated it.
Copy !req
302. I was going to do
anything it took.
Copy !req
303. And I dove into that and
dedicated my life toward it,
Copy !req
304. and it paid off.
Copy !req
305. Training to become a
professional wrestler,
Copy !req
306. Marcus Bagwell
dedicates himself
Copy !req
307. to becoming a superstar.
Copy !req
308. He started working
on the indie circuit.
Copy !req
309. I'm joined by The
Handsome Stranger.
Copy !req
310. And one day he
was like, "Missy,
Copy !req
311. you gotta see one
of my matches."
Copy !req
312. And, I watched his match, and
I'm sitting there thinking,
Copy !req
313. I'm like, "Oh my God,
he is really good."
Copy !req
314. This has only been
like three months.
Copy !req
315. And I'm like, "He's got
timing, he looks great,
Copy !req
316. he's got charisma." I mean,
I was really impressed.
Copy !req
317. Well, the women
indeed love him.
Copy !req
318. So I go to Mr. Jimsy
Barnett, and I said,
Copy !req
319. "Here's a tape." And I sat
there, made him watch it.
Copy !req
320. And he's like, "Oh, Missy,
you should be a scout.
Copy !req
321. This boy is fabboo."
Copy !req
322. And I want to introduce to
everyone out there
Copy !req
323. the newest rookie
sensation in WCW.
Copy !req
324. Alright!
Copy !req
325. With a successful two year
run as a singles competitor,
Copy !req
326. Marcus proves his talent to
WCW and is put into
Copy !req
327. a tag team with
2 Cold Scorpio.
Copy !req
328. And me being more of a
highflier with pretty boy...
Copy !req
329. didn't really know how that
was gonna work,
Copy !req
330. you know, how it was
gonna turn out.
Copy !req
331. This is Charles Scaggs.
Copy !req
332. Y'all all know me
as 2 Cold Scorpio.
Copy !req
333. I was very surprised how he
was able to step up his game
Copy !req
334. and keep up with me,
so, you know.
Copy !req
335. They put us together and we
were Tag Team of the Year
Copy !req
336. and World Champs
that same year.
Copy !req
337. For the Tag Team
Champions of the World!
Copy !req
338. And the fans loved him.
Copy !req
339. You know,
the women loved him.
Copy !req
340. I was madly in
love with Tonya.
Copy !req
341. She was a great woman,
and we had a great plan.
Copy !req
342. The only thing we weren't
quite ready for was for
Copy !req
343. a 21 year old man to be,
you know,
Copy !req
344. women throwing theirself at
him, I wasn't really ready...
Copy !req
345. I thought I was ready
for that, but I was not.
Copy !req
346. And so,
I cheated on Tonya.
Copy !req
347. Doing all of that I did to
just help him get in the
Copy !req
348. business, and then things
were supposed to be
Copy !req
349. better after this, and
now this happens.
Copy !req
350. You know, I was hurt,
extremely hurt.
Copy !req
351. And, you know,
it just...
Copy !req
352. I just couldn't forgive him.
Copy !req
353. As his marriage
to Tonya ends,
Copy !req
354. Marcus is slotted into
a new tag team,
Copy !req
355. Stars and Stripes.
Copy !req
356. First, the challengers
from Marietta, Georgia.
Copy !req
357. Determined to reach
the top at WCW,
Copy !req
358. he's convinced that the key
is to create the perfect body.
Copy !req
359. We were living
together at the time.
Copy !req
360. And he said, "Man,
I, I work my calves,
Copy !req
361. I work my calves and
they just will not grow."
Copy !req
362. I said, "Well what are you
gonna do about it"?
Copy !req
363. He said, "I'm getting
calf implants."
Copy !req
364. I says, "I'm sorry, what"?
Copy !req
365. He got 'em put in and
they look fantastic.
Copy !req
366. I mean, awesome.
Copy !req
367. And then his leg
started hurting.
Copy !req
368. Every time he wanted
to poop or piss,
Copy !req
369. I had to take him to
the bathroom on my back.
Copy !req
370. 'Cause he couldn't
move his legs.
Copy !req
371. And I'd have to
put him on my back,
Copy !req
372. I had to go down and sit him
on the toilet and let him do
Copy !req
373. his business, and then
he'd wipe his ass,
Copy !req
374. and then I'd go back,
pick him back up,
Copy !req
375. take him into
the living room,
Copy !req
376. back in his
favourite chair.
Copy !req
377. This went on for weeks
'cause he couldn't walk.
Copy !req
378. Sure enough, his body's
not accepting them.
Copy !req
379. He had a fever, I knew
we had a problem.
Copy !req
380. I load him in the car
and rushed him
Copy !req
381. straight to the hospital.
Copy !req
382. The doctor that came
in to see him, said,
Copy !req
383. "We've got less than
45 minutes to
Copy !req
384. get those calves out."
Copy !req
385. I asked him, "Is there
any way I can keep 'em"?
Copy !req
386. And, and he went, "Yeah, we
can keep 'em if you want to
Copy !req
387. cut your legs off."
Copy !req
388. And I remember
thinking, "Hm...
Copy !req
389. cut my legs off or
keep 'em."
Copy !req
390. I swear I remember thinking,
Copy !req
391. "How can I fix it
where I can keep 'em"?
Copy !req
392. So he has to have
them taken out.
Copy !req
393. So he still has them
at home in the box.
Copy !req
394. Without exaggerating
or sound corny,
Copy !req
395. it almost cost me my life.
Copy !req
396. Even without his
dream calf implants,
Copy !req
397. Marcus' popularity with the
female audience lands him in
Copy !req
398. a new tag team that fully
utilizes his good looks and
Copy !req
399. muscular physique.
Copy !req
400. It was not easy
being that cheesy.
Copy !req
401. I'm Scotty Riggs,
WCW,
Copy !req
402. ECW,
professional wrestler.
Copy !req
403. One half of the
American Males.
Copy !req
404. And we've got American
Males taking it to.
Copy !req
405. It doesn't get any better
than the American Males.
Copy !req
406. American Males,
American Males.
Copy !req
407. American Males!
Copy !req
408. American Males!
Copy !req
409. I'm pissed off that you even
brought up American Males
Copy !req
410. 'cause now that song is
gonna be in my head
Copy !req
411. 'til tomorrow morning.
Copy !req
412. I'm Eric Bischoff,
former president of
Copy !req
413. World Championship
Wrestling.
Copy !req
414. No I'm the highest
ranking executive in WCW.
Copy !req
415. The look is very, very
important and probably
Copy !req
416. even more so back
in the, in the 90s
Copy !req
417. when Marcus broke in.
Copy !req
418. You know, Scotty Riggs,
another young,
Copy !req
419. very athletic, attractive,
much like Marcus...
Copy !req
420. we were appealing
to a female demo.
Copy !req
421. We were looking to shore up
what was otherwise an
Copy !req
422. almost completely male
dominated audience.
Copy !req
423. Girls loved it.
Copy !req
424. The guys hated it, which
made it even better for us.
Copy !req
425. That was Erica.
It didn't last very long.
Copy !req
426. Then he had a third wife,
that was Judy,
Copy !req
427. another Judy Bagwell.
Copy !req
428. I call them Judy Bagwell,
the wife,
Copy !req
429. and Judy Bagwell,
the mother.
Copy !req
430. And at the beginning,
it was,
Copy !req
431. it was, it was awesome.
Copy !req
432. I'm Judy Bagwell, and I'm
Marcus Bagwell's third wife.
Copy !req
433. I was the top, I mean,
he put me on top, right?
Copy !req
434. Of course, Marc always
comes first.
Copy !req
435. Tag Team Champions!
Copy !req
436. Having won multiple
Tag Team Championships,
Copy !req
437. Marcus takes the leap
to join one of WCW's
Copy !req
438. most legendary factions.
Copy !req
439. Here's the NWO.
Copy !req
440. Ready or not,
here we come!
Copy !req
441. NWO was already pretty hot.
Copy !req
442. You know, we created
this heel group,
Copy !req
443. but the heel group was so
freaking cool that
Copy !req
444. people were actually
cheering them.
Copy !req
445. Nash came to me and
said, "Look, do you,
Copy !req
446. do you want to
be in the NWO"?
Copy !req
447. And it wasn't like I had to
have a meeting with
Copy !req
448. Scotty Riggs over this.
Copy !req
449. I mean, of course I want
to be in the NWO.
Copy !req
450. What is this all about?
Copy !req
451. I don't know what Bagwell
and Riggs is thinking about.
Copy !req
452. I didn't want to be a dick
and go, "Man, this sucks.
Copy !req
453. I want to go the NWO."
You know, that type thing,
Copy !req
454. and so I just kinda went,
"Alright, it's cool.
Copy !req
455. Let's make it work for you,
brother." And we did.
Copy !req
456. - Hey!
- Attacked by Bagwell!
Copy !req
457. I'm in the ring with
all of the superstars.
Copy !req
458. I mean, it does not get
any better than this.
Copy !req
459. I mean, it's just...
Copy !req
460. I have made it, man.
This is it, man, this is it.
Copy !req
461. Changed my whole career,
money, life, everything.
Copy !req
462. When he became
Buff the Stuff, it's like,
Copy !req
463. "Who the —- this
mother—-er think he is now"?
Copy !req
464. Buff was Marcus
times a million.
Copy !req
465. He the type of mother—-er
that I want to fight.
Copy !req
466. That's the type of
mother—-er I want to fight,
Copy !req
467. I want to whoop his ass.
Copy !req
468. So I think that kind
of gave him more heat,
Copy !req
469. but he pulled it off.
Copy !req
470. I had always thought that
Marc and I would
Copy !req
471. eventually get
back together.
Copy !req
472. And when I saw the NWO
I remember
Copy !req
473. saying to myself,
"Now we're over."
Copy !req
474. That's what that, that is
what that says to me.
Copy !req
475. Now we're over, because I
could see him living out
Copy !req
476. that character and
it engulfed him.
Copy !req
477. It wasn't an every
now and then thing.
Copy !req
478. He was living it out.
Copy !req
479. My mom came up with the
idea, just open up an
Copy !req
480. incorporation, so we
called it 'The Real Buff Inc.'
Copy !req
481. I hired the whole family
and I paid them a salary.
Copy !req
482. And so out of that,
it was, you know,
Copy !req
483. from taking me
to the airport,
Copy !req
484. to making sure my
house was clean,
Copy !req
485. to paying my bills.
Copy !req
486. One time I come home, and
I see Marc's mom's car
Copy !req
487. is there, and I
walk in his room,
Copy !req
488. and he's got a big old
bathroom and
Copy !req
489. he's in a big garden tub
butt naked,
Copy !req
490. and his mom is behind him
with the skin of his dick
Copy !req
491. pulled up behind his balls
and she's shaving
Copy !req
492. his balls for him. He's on
all fours and goes,
Copy !req
493. "Oh, hey, bud,
what's up"?
Copy !req
494. Even Judy, as she's shaving
his balls she goes,
Copy !req
495. "Hey, Marc,
how you been doing?
Copy !req
496. Is everything okay"?
Copy !req
497. I'm like, "No."
And I'm going,
Copy !req
498. Now I've seen it all.
You people are sick."
Copy !req
499. Then I walked right,
right out of the room.
Copy !req
500. They don't care.
Copy !req
501. She's gonna help Marc out
in any way she can.
Copy !req
502. If she needs to
shave his balls,
Copy !req
503. then she's
shaving his balls.
Copy !req
504. Using his newfound stardom
to pursue other avenues
Copy !req
505. in entertainment, Marcus
takes leading roles in a
Copy !req
506. number of straight to
video action movies.
Copy !req
507. I was familiar with at least
one of Marcus' movies.
Copy !req
508. Marcus needed some time off
to, to, to, to do that movie,
Copy !req
509. and I had to approve that.
Copy !req
510. Ragh!
Copy !req
511. No, I just, I never
did see that movie.
Copy !req
512. I don't know
why I missed it.
Copy !req
513. He said you had a certain
flair for the absurd.
Copy !req
514. Bless his heart.
Copy !req
515. He tried.
Copy !req
516. NWO,
here they come.
Copy !req
517. Still riding high as a
member of the NWO,
Copy !req
518. in April of 1998,
a routine match
Copy !req
519. on WCW Thunder goes
dangerously wrong.
Copy !req
520. The finish of the
match was, you know,
Copy !req
521. Rick was gonna hit me with
a Bulldog, go for the cover,
Copy !req
522. but when he does,
he misses me.
Copy !req
523. And when he misses
me with the Bulldog,
Copy !req
524. I hit him in his back and
my neck goes that way.
Copy !req
525. And when your neck goes that
way, it can't go very far.
Copy !req
526. So wham, it hit.
Copy !req
527. - Oh my goodness.
- Oh!
Copy !req
528. And when it did, it bruised
my spinal cord and
Copy !req
529. caused me to
be paralyzed.
Copy !req
530. Buff Bagwell apparently
is severely hurt here.
Copy !req
531. Everything I'd
worked for, it's over.
Copy !req
532. At the peak of his
wrestling career,
Copy !req
533. Buff Bagwell suffers
an in-ring accident
Copy !req
534. that leaves him with
a broken neck and
Copy !req
535. an uncertain future.
Copy !req
536. That, that, that's, that's,
that's a horrible scene.
Copy !req
537. I was at a friend's house,
and we were watching
Copy !req
538. the show, and I saw
that happen,
Copy !req
539. and we all were like,
Copy !req
540. "Wait, was that
part of that act"?
Copy !req
541. I thought, "Oh my God,
something's not right."
Copy !req
542. I mean, it was yeah,
it was brutal.
Copy !req
543. So the next three and a
half hours is CAT scans,
Copy !req
544. MRI's and all that.
Copy !req
545. Three hours later, the
doctor comes in and goes,
Copy !req
546. "Sit up."
I'm like, "What"?
Copy !req
547. And so I start trying to move
a little bit and sitting up,
Copy !req
548. and I feel totally normal.
Copy !req
549. I go, "What happened"?
Copy !req
550. He goes, "When you bruised
your spinal cord and the
Copy !req
551. swelling happens,
your body thinks
Copy !req
552. it's paralyzed,
so it don't move.
Copy !req
553. And then when the
swelling goes down,
Copy !req
554. you can move again."
So I got two plates and
Copy !req
555. eight screws in my neck
through here.
Copy !req
556. Broke my neck.
Copy !req
557. His mother, I swear,
she cried until I didn't think
Copy !req
558. she could cry
anymore, you know?
Copy !req
559. I went to see him
in the hospital.
Copy !req
560. He looked terrible.
Copy !req
561. I didn't think that he'd come
back from that, honestly.
Copy !req
562. But he did.
Copy !req
563. - Oh look at this!
Copy !req
564. - Yeah!
- It's Buff Bagwell!
Copy !req
565. It was crazy.
And actually,
Copy !req
566. I was back on TV from
breaking my neck
Copy !req
567. in three months.
Copy !req
568. To know that these
people love me
Copy !req
569. just as much
as I love them.
Copy !req
570. And God knows I love each
and every fan out there.
Copy !req
571. - Listen to that.
Copy !req
572. So for that three month mark
to the ten month mark,
Copy !req
573. I got back into great
shape and was
Copy !req
574. Scott Steiner's manager.
Copy !req
575. Returning to the spotlight,
Copy !req
576. Buff turns to drugs
to endure the pain
Copy !req
577. that comes with
the wrestling lifestyle.
Copy !req
578. You take, you know,
two Vicodins, two Somas,
Copy !req
579. and then you come down and
drink some beer and then
Copy !req
580. you take two more kinds of
pills that get you up,
Copy !req
581. to go wrestle.
Copy !req
582. And then you, you'll take
another little combo
Copy !req
583. to come back down.
Copy !req
584. Muscle relaxers
is what it is.
Copy !req
585. It relaxes your muscles.
Copy !req
586. You take too many and
you cannot control
Copy !req
587. walking, talking, nothing.
Copy !req
588. I didn't like to be
around Marc, because
Copy !req
589. he kinda was not the Marc
I grew up with, you know?
Copy !req
590. I was out partying with
all the other wrestlers.
Copy !req
591. He was in the room with his
pills having a good time.
Copy !req
592. I remember being on a plane,
me and Marc flying to Europe
Copy !req
593. or whatever, and him being,
laying beside me and
Copy !req
594. sleeping, but then
he'd start doing
Copy !req
595. his twitches and all that.
Copy !req
596. And I remember one time
this stewardess says,
Copy !req
597. "Is he okay?
Is he okay"?
Copy !req
598. I said, "Yes. It's just
his medicine.
Copy !req
599. It's just his medicine."
Copy !req
600. Ugh... and I almost tried to
make it sound like,
Copy !req
601. "Oh, he was
really injured."
Copy !req
602. And you try to
make up excuses,
Copy !req
603. that's all I ever did,
I tried to
Copy !req
604. make up excuses
for him to cover.
Copy !req
605. It was,
it was just...
Copy !req
606. I didn't like seeing him
like that,
Copy !req
607. 'cause that's
not Marc, right?
Copy !req
608. Yeah...
Copy !req
609. It was tough.
Copy !req
610. With the success of
Buff's return to WCW...
Copy !req
611. We understand that
is his mother
Copy !req
612. pushing Buff Bagwell in.
Copy !req
613. a new angle is born,
as Marcus' mother Judy
Copy !req
614. becomes a part
of the storyline.
Copy !req
615. Judy Bagwell.
We made her a star.
Copy !req
616. A lot of the stuff that
we did with Judy and Marc,
Copy !req
617. I thought it was pretty
good creative, actually.
Copy !req
618. She loved to perform, too.
Copy !req
619. I could see where
Marcus got it.
Copy !req
620. Rick Steiner and my
mom loved each other.
Copy !req
621. They were great friends.
Copy !req
622. And he called me up
one day and he goes,
Copy !req
623. "Look, man,
I got this idea.
Copy !req
624. You being a bad guy and we're
gonna bring your mom in
Copy !req
625. and do the, "What are
you doing, Son?
Copy !req
626. Why are you being a bad guy
to all these fans?"
Copy !req
627. Your typical mother.
Copy !req
628. And I said, "I love it.
Let's do it."
Copy !req
629. You come to me,
and you said,
Copy !req
630. "Mother, don't you
ever slap me again"!
Copy !req
631. And I believed
what you said.
Copy !req
632. I enjoyed working with
my mom tremendously.
Copy !req
633. But you know,
you're...
Copy !req
634. your mom is your
mom still, so,
Copy !req
635. working with your
family is kind of,
Copy !req
636. it's kind of
hard sometimes.
Copy !req
637. She's trying to...
Copy !req
638. she's throwing everything
she can to get away from
Copy !req
639. Positively Kanyon.
Copy !req
640. No, I don't regret
Judy getting involved.
Copy !req
641. Unfortunately, we leaned on
it a little bit too much and
Copy !req
642. it went a little farther
and a little longer than
Copy !req
643. it should've, but I think
initially the things that
Copy !req
644. we did with Judy
were really good.
Copy !req
645. I couldn't find the pole
that would
Copy !req
646. hold that big
fat battle axe.
Copy !req
647. After Judy's run
comes to an end,
Copy !req
648. WCW is bought by
their competition,
Copy !req
649. the World Wrestling
Federation.
Copy !req
650. As Vince McMahon
only brings some
Copy !req
651. WCW wrestlers on
to his roster...
Copy !req
652. - Buff Bagwell up?
Copy !req
653. Buff Bagwell
makes the cut.
Copy !req
654. Before making his debut,
Copy !req
655. Marcus attends a
training session
Copy !req
656. with fellow wrestler,
Shane Helms,
Copy !req
657. which erupts into a
heated confrontation.
Copy !req
658. Shane says something
to me like,
Copy !req
659. "Yeah, Bagwell happened
to be on time today."
Copy !req
660. Or something,
and I go, "Wow."
Copy !req
661. I go, "You had a
great day today, brother."
Copy !req
662. He goes, "Well, I'm hurt."
I go, "Oh, I know, yeah."
Copy !req
663. I said, "You're always hurt."
Or something.
Copy !req
664. He goes, "Well at least
I'm not a drug addict."
Copy !req
665. And I said,
"Look, bro,
Copy !req
666. we got two ways
to go here.
Copy !req
667. We can just drop this and
let it go." I said, "Or,
Copy !req
668. I can just slap your teeth
down your —-ing throat."
Copy !req
669. Following an
exchange of insults,
Copy !req
670. Marcus Bagwell threatens
fellow wrestler
Copy !req
671. Shane Helms with
physical violence.
Copy !req
672. He goes,
"Take your best shot."
Copy !req
673. And he didn't get
it shot out of his mouth,
Copy !req
674. and here come the
Bagwell Slap.
Copy !req
675. Whap!
Copy !req
676. The Bagwell slap is something
my father taught us.
Copy !req
677. It's just a way to
show instant dominance.
Copy !req
678. You're able to, you know,
slap somebody and
Copy !req
679. just get a hold of the
situation and let everybody
Copy !req
680. know what's going on
and who's in control.
Copy !req
681. And it rolled him
into the corner.
Copy !req
682. So I go to walk off...
Copy !req
683. well, I didn't know it, but
he had an ice bottle
Copy !req
684. under his shirt. A brick-
a frozen brick-
Copy !req
685. and goes, wham!
Copy !req
686. On the back of my head,
Copy !req
687. me walking away
from behind.
Copy !req
688. I mean, it was like
a sledgehammer.
Copy !req
689. And, all of a sudden
I look and
Copy !req
690. there's just blood
all around me.
Copy !req
691. I don't tell nobody about it,
I go to my own doctor,
Copy !req
692. I get my own
doctor to fix it.
Copy !req
693. No time off.
Copy !req
694. I wrestled that night with
Booker with
Copy !req
695. 25 staples in my
head that night.
Copy !req
696. Had to get a black Sharpie
and cover the
Copy !req
697. staples in that match.
Copy !req
698. And that night I was main
event with Booker T and
Copy !req
699. had a decent match,
I thought.
Copy !req
700. We're instantly starting
to get hit with
Copy !req
701. how bad our match was.
Copy !req
702. And I go, "What? What?
What happened?
Copy !req
703. What do you mean,
bad match?"
Copy !req
704. It wasn't a barn burner,
but there was no mistakes.
Copy !req
705. But they really just
kept hammering
Copy !req
706. how bad the match was.
Copy !req
707. So they called me that week
and they're like, "Hey, man.
Copy !req
708. We got big plans for you
on, on Monday.
Copy !req
709. Rest up." You know,
"You're good to go."
Copy !req
710. And I was fired
the next week.
Copy !req
711. I went from main event
one week and
Copy !req
712. was fired in seven days.
Copy !req
713. Well, the match
wasn't great.
Copy !req
714. The fact is the
crowd can't help you.
Copy !req
715. What if I had a
horrible match?
Copy !req
716. So what?
Copy !req
717. I'm Buff Bagwell, man.
Copy !req
718. I gave 11 years to WCW.
Copy !req
719. Five-time World
Tag Team Champion,
Copy !req
720. Rookie of the Year.
Copy !req
721. I'm 31 with that,
with 20 years
Copy !req
722. coming at me of
wonderful wrestling.
Copy !req
723. Why would you get
fired over a bad match?
Copy !req
724. I think it was just,
Copy !req
725. they were just trying
to get rid of me.
Copy !req
726. But see, Marc, Marc
slapped him first.
Copy !req
727. So, if Shane would
have hit him,
Copy !req
728. Shane would've
probably been gone.
Copy !req
729. The famous Bagwell Slap,
cost him a...
Copy !req
730. hundreds of
thousands of dollars.
Copy !req
731. I was gonna be one of
the biggest names
Copy !req
732. in pro wrestling,
man, ever.
Copy !req
733. And instead I was just,
I had a good run,
Copy !req
734. you know?
That's all.
Copy !req
735. And that's, that's
hard to deal with, man.
Copy !req
736. When, when you're
31 years old.
Copy !req
737. So I dealt with it with,
with pills and alcohol.
Copy !req
738. So, what was already
getting really bad,
Copy !req
739. it just
It got real bad.
Copy !req
740. I had no, like I said,
I had no,
Copy !req
741. nobody to answer
to no more.
Copy !req
742. And I, and I was
depressed now.
Copy !req
743. Buff Bagwell!
Copy !req
744. Fired from the
WWF in 2001,
Copy !req
745. Marcus spends
the next 11 years
Copy !req
746. wrestling in
independent promotions.
Copy !req
747. And there it is!
The Block Buster.
Copy !req
748. Battling his addictions,
Marcus makes
Copy !req
749. multiple attempts
to get clean.
Copy !req
750. But in 2012, while
driving home from rehab,
Copy !req
751. he passes out
at the wheel.
Copy !req
752. And next thing I know,
Copy !req
753. I wake up and I'm
driving my car.
Copy !req
754. I crank my Jeep.
Copy !req
755. And roll it four times.
Copy !req
756. So, I almost killed
myself with that,
Copy !req
757. knocked my teeth
out, and...
Copy !req
758. but they call that a
withdrawal seizure.
Copy !req
759. From being clean,
I had a seizure.
Copy !req
760. They had to put him in
a medically induced coma
Copy !req
761. because his neck
was swelling.
Copy !req
762. And they said had he not
had that plate that he had,
Copy !req
763. from his original broken
neck, he would've,
Copy !req
764. he would've been dead.
Copy !req
765. When I saw him
in the hospital,
Copy !req
766. I couldn't believe
how he looked.
Copy !req
767. His entire face
was swollen.
Copy !req
768. And of course, when his
brothers went there
Copy !req
769. to see him, they were
devastated because,
Copy !req
770. I mean, you would not have
recognized him.
Copy !req
771. His face was so bad.
Copy !req
772. He should not be alive.
Copy !req
773. I'm telling you, he should
not be alive right now.
Copy !req
774. He crawled back up
pretty quickly.
Copy !req
775. My teeth are knocked
out of my head,
Copy !req
776. I have lost 50 pounds,
Copy !req
777. and there's bills
that still are coming in
Copy !req
778. and I don't
know what to do.
Copy !req
779. We needed money,
and so...
Copy !req
780. we made it make sense
that I was going to be on
Copy !req
781. this show called 'Gigolos'
and I was getting paid
Copy !req
782. $25,000 to do it.
Copy !req
783. Being a gigolo
isn't always easy.
Copy !req
784. I do. I was like,
"What the —-?
Copy !req
785. Get the —- out of here.
Copy !req
786. How to —- he gon' get
onto 'Gigolos' and
Copy !req
787. he got a dick
about this big"?
Copy !req
788. - Hey, guys.
- Sup, man.
Copy !req
789. I don't even have
to say his name?
Copy !req
790. - Buff Bagwell.
- Buff, man!
Copy !req
791. They told him he was
gonna make an appearance,
Copy !req
792. and sort of be a
"mentor" to the guys.
Copy !req
793. So, we didn't know what
I was doing quite yet.
Copy !req
794. But I get all the way out
there and all of a sudden
Copy !req
795. I see what I gotta do,
and I'm like,
Copy !req
796. "Wait a second, what?
Are you shittin' me"?
Copy !req
797. Desperate for money,
Marcus Bagwell agrees to
Copy !req
798. appear on the reality
TV show 'Gigolos.'
Copy !req
799. Come on In.
Copy !req
800. But once on set, it becomes
clear that the show
Copy !req
801. expects more from Marcus
than he anticipated.
Copy !req
802. - Hi, I'm Bradly.
- Hi Bradly.
Copy !req
803. He calls me the next day,
and he said,
Copy !req
804. "I kinda got some...
bad news?"
Copy !req
805. I go,
"What do you mean"?
Copy !req
806. He goes, "Well,
it wasn't what I,
Copy !req
807. what they told me
it was gonna be.
Copy !req
808. I did more than an
appearance."
Copy !req
809. And I said, "What are
you talking about"?
Copy !req
810. I couldn't choose just one.
Copy !req
811. - Or two or three.
- Exactly.
Copy !req
812. He said, "Well..."
Copy !req
813. "It's almost
like soft porn."
Copy !req
814. And I was about to die
when he told me that.
Copy !req
815. And when he told me
what he had to do,
Copy !req
816. it broke my heart,
it really did.
Copy !req
817. 'Cause I was like,
"This is, this is bad."
Copy !req
818. In my scene,
I do remember,
Copy !req
819. I had zero blood in my,
in my penis.
Copy !req
820. Zero blood. So I'm like,
"What do I do"?
Copy !req
821. So I got real close
up to her and
Copy !req
822. act like we
were having sex.
Copy !req
823. Well, when the whole
thing got done shooting,
Copy !req
824. I'm down at the bar in Vegas
with the guy that's paying us
Copy !req
825. and I said, "Bro."
I go, "I'm so sorry.
Copy !req
826. I couldn't, I couldn't have
sex with the lady." He goes,
Copy !req
827. "You're not supposed to."
And I go, "What"?
Copy !req
828. I go, "Well nobody
told me, bro."
Copy !req
829. It's sad what a
human will do when
Copy !req
830. you're in such a situation
of losing your house,
Copy !req
831. not having food
to go in your mouth.
Copy !req
832. And we were,
we were broke, man.
Copy !req
833. But this was a show.
Copy !req
834. I didn't know it was
gonna be real later.
Copy !req
835. Cowboys For Angels.
It was a website, um...
Copy !req
836. that you could hire a
gigolo for a date,
Copy !req
837. for a weekend,
for a week.
Copy !req
838. And it was like 10, 15,
$20,000 to,
Copy !req
839. to do this.
Copy !req
840. We're trying to pay the
bills and the same time,
Copy !req
841. keep a marriage.
Copy !req
842. And it sounds ludicrous
saying it now,
Copy !req
843. but when you're in it,
it all happens so fast.
Copy !req
844. I hate talking
about this 'cause
Copy !req
845. it's just weird, but...
Copy !req
846. whenever he did get
called to go on a "date",
Copy !req
847. it turned out that this
woman actually
Copy !req
848. fell in love with Marc.
Copy !req
849. Very first one out of the
gate fell in love, and...
Copy !req
850. it was crazy, and I would
live there for a week,
Copy !req
851. paying our bills,
Copy !req
852. and I'd come
home for a week.
Copy !req
853. He ended up seeing her
Copy !req
854. without my knowledge.
Copy !req
855. Judy had a job.
Copy !req
856. She's got a great job
she really likes.
Copy !req
857. And at this time it was,
I mean,
Copy !req
858. she was always gone.
Copy !req
859. And then I was gone
on the weekend,
Copy !req
860. so we never
saw each other.
Copy !req
861. So the transition
from Judy to
Copy !req
862. this person
that had money,
Copy !req
863. it was,
it seemed more logical.
Copy !req
864. And...
Copy !req
865. they, he called me
at work one day.
Copy !req
866. This is a really
bad time, and said,
Copy !req
867. "I think I have fallen in love
and I'm going to leave."
Copy !req
868. Yeah.
Copy !req
869. No.
Copy !req
870. Absolutely I would've
stayed with Judy
Copy !req
871. if I had to do it over,
but I don't.
Copy !req
872. And, and things happened,
and it went on.
Copy !req
873. Dealing with relationship
and financial problems,
Copy !req
874. Marcus' drug use
spirals out of control,
Copy !req
875. resulting in
multiple DUIs and
Copy !req
876. eventually
another car wreck.
Copy !req
877. And this last one
was devastating.
Copy !req
878. This last one was, you know,
August of 2020.
Copy !req
879. I, you know, I went through
the back of a building
Copy !req
880. behind Cumberland Mall.
Copy !req
881. And just, you know,
I wasn't there.
Copy !req
882. I just completely
blacked out.
Copy !req
883. Went through a bus
station bathroom.
Copy !req
884. And how I got out and not
killing somebody on
Copy !req
885. this one, man,
is just...
Copy !req
886. I got no idea.
Copy !req
887. I mean, but I'm very
lucky that I'm not dead.
Copy !req
888. And, and really honest
to God I mean this,
Copy !req
889. more that somebody
else ain't dead.
Copy !req
890. After these wrecks
you're just like,
Copy !req
891. when's it gonna stop?
You know, when's it...
Copy !req
892. it's, it's, it's
just never ending.
Copy !req
893. Already at rock bottom
with his addiction,
Copy !req
894. Marcus receives life
shattering news
Copy !req
895. about his mother,
Judy.
Copy !req
896. She was suffering
for a while, man.
Copy !req
897. She, um...
Copy !req
898. she had got dementia and
just, was just horribly bad.
Copy !req
899. I saw the most powerful
woman in the world
Copy !req
900. really going down
in flames, bro.
Copy !req
901. I mean, like, like bad.
Copy !req
902. Marcus Bagwell and his
family now face their
Copy !req
903. biggest challenge yet,
as his mother, Judy,
Copy !req
904. is diagnosed with
Alzheimer's disease.
Copy !req
905. She was at a
rehabilitation place.
Copy !req
906. She had kind of slipped
into a situation
Copy !req
907. where she
couldn't wake up.
Copy !req
908. And I had hurt myself,
and I was in the hospital,
Copy !req
909. and they called me to see
if could get her woke up.
Copy !req
910. And for over an hour, I,
you know, I kept digging,
Copy !req
911. trying to get her woke up,
begging her to
Copy !req
912. open her eyes and,
and talk to us.
Copy !req
913. Didn't work out at all.
Copy !req
914. And at some point I
got a call and said,
Copy !req
915. "Hate to tell you,
Mr. Bagwell,
Copy !req
916. but your wife died."
Copy !req
917. One of the greatest
women I ever knew
Copy !req
918. or anybody
else ever knew.
Copy !req
919. I mean, everybody says
their mom's the best,
Copy !req
920. but my mom was the best.
Copy !req
921. It was a lot of dysfunction.
Copy !req
922. But they loved their kids,
they really did.
Copy !req
923. I think it woke him up
more than anything.
Copy !req
924. His niece came into the
picture because
Copy !req
925. Marc needed a
place to live.
Copy !req
926. And so she said,
"You can stay here,
Copy !req
927. but you're gonna
have to get clean."
Copy !req
928. Then they said, "Look, if
you don't get sober today,
Copy !req
929. you don't go today, we're,
we're out of your life."
Copy !req
930. And I said,
"Let's do it."
Copy !req
931. And then we brought
Dallas Page in,
Copy !req
932. and that's how
it all started.
Copy !req
933. Yeah, absolutely.
Copy !req
934. I do believe it.
Copy !req
935. I've talked to him
several times.
Copy !req
936. It's just like the old Marc.
Copy !req
937. I can barely see hardly any,
you know, Buff in there.
Copy !req
938. It was a lot of Marc, now.
Copy !req
939. So, I do believe him.
I do.
Copy !req
940. Yeah, I can.
Copy !req
941. 'Dark Side of the Ring'
called me, and they said,
Copy !req
942. "Hey man, we're gonna,
we're gonna do your story."
Copy !req
943. And they told me some people
they were gonna reach out to.
Copy !req
944. And one of them was,
was Scotty Riggs.
Copy !req
945. And I said, "Cool, great."
I thought,
Copy !req
946. "You know,
I owe him a call anyway.
Copy !req
947. I'm gonna call and just touch
base with him."
Copy !req
948. And he texted me
back and said,
Copy !req
949. "I'm living in my car the
last six or eight weeks."
Copy !req
950. My mom got ill and
passed away in 2020,
Copy !req
951. and went through a
Copy !req
952. couple years there
paying the bills,
Copy !req
953. everything else, trying
to keep the house,
Copy !req
954. the whole nine yards...
Copy !req
955. ended up losing the
house that I was living in,
Copy !req
956. and was sleeping
in my car.
Copy !req
957. And I was in a really
depressed place,
Copy !req
958. dark state, and was
pretty much...
Copy !req
959. maybe a half a day away of
putting a gun to my chest
Copy !req
960. and taking my life.
Copy !req
961. And Marcus called me up
and just basically
Copy !req
962. browbeat me to
come to Atlanta.
Copy !req
963. And he's like, "Dude,
I'm at Diamond Dallas' house.
Copy !req
964. Get up here." I said,
"Man I, I'm...
Copy !req
965. content with not being
here anymore."
Copy !req
966. And he did not give up.
Copy !req
967. "I love you man, get up
here, get up here."
Copy !req
968. And that next morning
I drove up here.
Copy !req
969. And if it wasn't for him,
Copy !req
970. I probably wouldn't
be here today.
Copy !req
971. I do. I'll always love,
I'll always love Marc.
Copy !req
972. I think he's just really,
genuinely this good guy.
Copy !req
973. And for so long,
people have,
Copy !req
974. you know, misjudged him.
Copy !req
975. I think that he has some
good people supporting him,
Copy !req
976. and he has a wonderful
girl in his life now.
Copy !req
977. I hope that
works out for him.
Copy !req
978. I want him to be happy.
Copy !req
979. I truly want him to be happy.
Copy !req
980. Marcus Bagwell
is a lovable guy.
Copy !req
981. It's why his ex-wives
still love him.
Copy !req
982. It's why friends
still love him.
Copy !req
983. It's why I still love him.
Copy !req
984. Despite his faults
and his flaws.
Copy !req
985. But at Marc's core,
he's a very giving,
Copy !req
986. generous,
loving person.
Copy !req
987. I think the same drive that
made him a superstar in
Copy !req
988. a year, the fortitude,
the gumption,
Copy !req
989. the want, you know,
the smartness.
Copy !req
990. He's done a lot of things
in his life that
Copy !req
991. I was very,
very proud of.
Copy !req
992. But I think getting sober
and staying sober
Copy !req
993. is above all of 'em.
Copy !req
994. The future for me is
sobriety and my recovery.
Copy !req
995. And no doubt about it,
Copy !req
996. I wanna be back
in the business.
Copy !req
997. I wanna be back
in the ring.
Copy !req
998. Look, if anybody can pull
it off, Marcus Bagwell can.
Copy !req
999. I'm rootin' for you, baby.
Copy !req
1000. I'm rootin' for ya.
Copy !req
