1. I don't know that there's
been any family in wrestling,
Copy !req
2. either related for
real or professionally,
Copy !req
3. that had as much impact,
as much reach,
Copy !req
4. and as much influence as
the Graham family did.
Copy !req
5. Graham lands the hardest
punch in wrestling history.
Copy !req
6. Eddie Graham was not only
a great wrestler and
Copy !req
7. a great promoter,
he was a visionary.
Copy !req
8. Eddie's Championship
Wrestling From Florida,
Copy !req
9. it was built on wrestling,
Copy !req
10. and the main events
were violent.
Copy !req
11. Agh!
Copy !req
12. He gave the
people the circus.
Copy !req
13. Eddie Graham coming back
into that ring after...
Copy !req
14. Eddie Graham
was a titan of
Copy !req
15. professional wrestling,
who ruled his era,
Copy !req
16. and passed on
his iconic legacy
Copy !req
17. to his only son,
Mike.
Copy !req
18. The son of any
great athlete,
Copy !req
19. they've got the
scrutiny on them.
Copy !req
20. But Mike Graham didn't
take shit off anybody.
Copy !req
21. I think maybe he felt
like he had to be
Copy !req
22. as good as his father.
Copy !req
23. Mike Graham followed in
his father's footsteps
Copy !req
24. to wrestling greatness...
Copy !req
25. and also descended into
his own dark world of
Copy !req
26. pain, addiction,
and grief.
Copy !req
27. The wrestling culture
is very cutthroat.
Copy !req
28. You have to have
this thing about you,
Copy !req
29. where nothing's
gonna break you.
Copy !req
30. He was under
tremendous pressure
Copy !req
31. from so many
different angles.
Copy !req
32. Mike kept shit to himself,
too, like his father.
Copy !req
33. The apple didn't fall
far from the tree.
Copy !req
34. It all gets pushed under
the rug in certain families.
Copy !req
35. Who are you supposed
to go to for help?
Copy !req
36. The tragic legacy of
a wrestling dynasty,
Copy !req
37. haunted by self
- destruction and suicide.
Copy !req
38. It is with a deep sense of
regret that I announce the
Copy !req
39. untimely death of a friend,
colleague, and a leader.
Copy !req
40. It was like somebody
dropped a bomb on all of us.
Copy !req
41. Grandfather, father...
Copy !req
42. and then the kid.
Copy !req
43. That runs in
the family genes, right.
Copy !req
44. Once that spotlight's gone
or once you
Copy !req
45. don't have that ring,
like, it's emptiness.
Copy !req
46. Championship Wrestling
From Florida was one of
Copy !req
47. the most respected
and successful
Copy !req
48. wrestling promotions
of modern times.
Copy !req
49. The legacy of the Graham
family in Florida is,
Copy !req
50. they meant
professional wrestling
Copy !req
51. to millions of people,
all over the state,
Copy !req
52. for almost thirty years.
Copy !req
53. One member of the Graham
family was on the card,
Copy !req
54. or in the main event,
or behind the scenes.
Copy !req
55. In the glory years when
they were selling
Copy !req
56. a million tickets a year
just in the state of Florida
Copy !req
57. to see live matches,
Copy !req
58. and their TV ratings
were Super Bowl level.
Copy !req
59. I guess I was
used to it, like,
Copy !req
60. when you don't know
what's different,
Copy !req
61. it's just what your life is.
Copy !req
62. I just knew that that
was a huge part of, like,
Copy !req
63. my grandfather
and my dad's life.
Copy !req
64. I am Nicole Gossett,
and Eddie Graham was
Copy !req
65. my grandfather, and Mike
Graham is my father.
Copy !req
66. And that's Eddie Graham in
the centre of the ring now,
Copy !req
67. his son Mike watching
very carefully.
Copy !req
68. Every Sunday,
they'd have matches
Copy !req
69. at the
Eddie Graham Stadium.
Copy !req
70. And, the first phone call
in the morning was my
Copy !req
71. grandfather calling my dad
to talk about the night.
Copy !req
72. We'd wake up, and we'd walk
into like our family room to
Copy !req
73. see who was crashed out
on our couch for
Copy !req
74. a little while,
you know.
Copy !req
75. 'Cause we had
different wrestlers
Copy !req
76. sleeping on our
couch at times.
Copy !req
77. Magnum T.A.- Terry Allen-
when he first started,
Copy !req
78. he slept on our couch,
and he was so sweet.
Copy !req
79. And so, I was pretty
accustomed to having big,
Copy !req
80. boisterous personalities
and people around.
Copy !req
81. The one that scared me
was Andre the Giant.
Copy !req
82. When he came, like,
crouching through
Copy !req
83. our front door, I-
he freaked me out,
Copy !req
84. yeah, I was scared.
Copy !req
85. It was the family business.
Copy !req
86. Everybody wanted to be
on the roster of
Copy !req
87. Championship Wrestling
From Florida.
Copy !req
88. For the money,
the weather, for the girls...
Copy !req
89. And also, to learn
from Eddie Graham.
Copy !req
90. I'm Jim Cornette.
Copy !req
91. I've had a 40-year career
in professional wrestling,
Copy !req
92. but for even
longer than that,
Copy !req
93. I've been a collector
and an historian.
Copy !req
94. Eddie could make you believe
that he was the toughest man
Copy !req
95. in the state of Florida,
which is exactly what
Copy !req
96. most of the fans believed.
Copy !req
97. He just had a
magnetism about him,
Copy !req
98. and he was somebody that
you wanted to listen to,
Copy !req
99. and if you were
working for him,
Copy !req
100. you wanted to follow.
Copy !req
101. A leader,
a general.
Copy !req
102. I was born up in them
Tennessee Mountains, brother.
Copy !req
103. If you didn't have
heart and desire,
Copy !req
104. you were finished
to begin with.
Copy !req
105. So, I ain't gonna
lay down and quit.
Copy !req
106. That's my bottom line.
Copy !req
107. There you have it.
Copy !req
108. The comments from
Eddie Graham.
Copy !req
109. There goes a wrestler,
and one hell of a man.
Copy !req
110. Eddie was a
legend in Florida.
Copy !req
111. He could get a reaction
just walking to the ring.
Copy !req
112. My name is Kevin Sullivan.
Copy !req
113. I worked for the Graham
family for decades,
Copy !req
114. and I've been a wrestler
for over 50 years.
Copy !req
115. Your nightmare
is just starting.
Copy !req
116. Eddie was about
5"10 and a half,
Copy !req
117. wide shoulders,
bleach blond hair,
Copy !req
118. and he just had a
presence about him.
Copy !req
119. Nobody else was
ever in his class.
Copy !req
120. The genius of the business,
our Einstein.
Copy !req
121. Eddie was from the hills
in Chattanooga.
Copy !req
122. Very difficult life.
Copy !req
123. His father died young.
Copy !req
124. Eddie came up through the
college of hard knocks.
Copy !req
125. Just a good old
touch country boy.
Copy !req
126. My name is Dotty Curtis,
Copy !req
127. and I am the wife of the
late Don Curtis.
Copy !req
128. Don was a very, very
knowledgeable wrestler.
Copy !req
129. Don and Eddie met
back in around '52,
Copy !req
130. I think it was.
Copy !req
131. They became friends, and
Eddie asked to Don to
Copy !req
132. come up here to
Jacksonville, and
Copy !req
133. he was the promoter up here
for quite a few years.
Copy !req
134. Now it's Graham, and a good,
solid chop across the throat.
Copy !req
135. Eddie Graham is
probably one of the
Copy !req
136. finest wrestlers that was
around in his time.
Copy !req
137. I don't think there'll ever be
another Eddie Graham.
Copy !req
138. Though born Edward Gossett,
Eddie's wrestling career is
Copy !req
139. forever altered when he
adopts the "Graham" name
Copy !req
140. from one of the
ring's top stars.
Copy !req
141. The originator of the Graham
wrestling family dynasty
Copy !req
142. was Dr. Jerry Graham.
Copy !req
143. He had the bleached hair,
Copy !req
144. and he carried himself
like a star.
Copy !req
145. And what's more,
he had the gift of gab.
Copy !req
146. Brother teams in New York
were over at the time.
Copy !req
147. But, if you could find a guy
that looks something
Copy !req
148. like you, nobody's reading
your birth certificate,
Copy !req
149. just say it's your brother.
Copy !req
150. Eddie Gossett was in Texas
wrestling as Rip Rogers,
Copy !req
151. and a lot of people
told him,
Copy !req
152. "You look like
Jerry Graham."
Copy !req
153. Jerry and Eddie
connected, and in 1958,
Copy !req
154. the Graham Brothers,
"The Golden Grahams",
Copy !req
155. as a team, ruled the
roost in wrestling
Copy !req
156. in the biggest
TV market in the country,
Copy !req
157. where wrestling
is already red-hot,
Copy !req
158. being presented in the most
famous arena in the world,
Copy !req
159. Madison Square Garden.
Copy !req
160. Dr. Graham has just
the treatment for that
Copy !req
161. tired,
nagging backache.
Copy !req
162. Eddie performs the surgery
Copy !req
163. while Jerry looks
on approvingly.
Copy !req
164. If you could sell out
Madison Square Garden,
Copy !req
165. you could
sell out anywhere.
Copy !req
166. Eddie and Dr. Jerry
made a fantastic duo,
Copy !req
167. hated by everybody,
Copy !req
168. and just really drew
the crowds in.
Copy !req
169. Just main eventing
Madison Square Garden,
Copy !req
170. they were probably making
close to six figures per year
Copy !req
171. in 1958, 1959, and that would
translate into somewhere
Copy !req
172. over a million bucks apiece
in today's money.
Copy !req
173. With money and
fame to burn,
Copy !req
174. Eddie and Jerry are box
office sensations.
Copy !req
175. But before long, Dr. Jerry's
behaviour outside the ring
Copy !req
176. becomes even more
notorious than his matches.
Copy !req
177. Dr. Jerry Graham, as big
of a genius as he was
Copy !req
178. in wrestling,
was an alcoholic,
Copy !req
179. was mentally ill, and...
Copy !req
180. he got in a lot of trouble
and caused a lot of trouble.
Copy !req
181. Jerry Graham,
to impress fans,
Copy !req
182. used to light his
cigars with $100 bills.
Copy !req
183. Or, he would walk into a
biker bar and walk right up
Copy !req
184. in front of a guy and say-
"Hey!
Copy !req
185. My name's Balls!
You got any?"
Copy !req
186. But the most shocking
incident involving
Copy !req
187. Jerry Graham transpires
years later,
Copy !req
188. in his hometown of
Phoenix, Arizona.
Copy !req
189. One day he got
the word that
Copy !req
190. his mother was sick and
in the hospital.
Copy !req
191. And he called the hospital,
and he told the doctor that
Copy !req
192. his mother better come out of
that hospital in good health,
Copy !req
193. and then she died.
Copy !req
194. So, Dr. Jerry Graham shows
up with a 12-gauge shotgun...
Copy !req
195. a.38 caliber revolver,
Copy !req
196. and an 8-inch long
hunting knife...
Copy !req
197. And appears...
Copy !req
198. in the intensive care unit,
where he fires a shot-
Copy !req
199. at the doctor.
Copy !req
200. And then goes down
the hallway and
Copy !req
201. grabs the gurney...
Copy !req
202. that his mother's
body is on.
Copy !req
203. And as he's taking it
down the hallway,
Copy !req
204. here come the orderlies
and the interns.
Copy !req
205. And they're trying
to tackle him.
Copy !req
206. So, he grabs his
mother's corpse and
Copy !req
207. slings her over
his shoulder.
Copy !req
208. And he's screaming,
Copy !req
209. "I just want to take her
and bury her!"
Copy !req
210. Jerry Graham was so good
at his chosen profession.
Copy !req
211. And he was also
completely, utterly insane.
Copy !req
212. After two years,
Eddie Graham
Copy !req
213. could not put up with
Copy !req
214. being partners with
Jerry Graham anymore.
Copy !req
215. And he had to leave
the greatest spot that
Copy !req
216. he'd ever had.
Copy !req
217. In 1960, Eddie uproots
his family from New York,
Copy !req
218. and settles in Tampa,
the hub of
Copy !req
219. Championship Wrestling
From Florida.
Copy !req
220. He was a visionary.
He said to himself,
Copy !req
221. "I know my capabilities
as a wrestler.
Copy !req
222. I can get over here.
I can be the star.
Copy !req
223. And this whole thing
can be bigger."
Copy !req
224. And over the
next 25 years,
Copy !req
225. not only did he become
the most successful wrestler
Copy !req
226. in the history of Florida,
and the most popular-
Copy !req
227. but he worked his way into
being able to buy into the
Copy !req
228. promotion, then taking
it over completely,
Copy !req
229. and expanding wrestling
in the state of Florida,
Copy !req
230. and made it the place that
everybody wanted to go
Copy !req
231. to wrestle and to learn.
Copy !req
232. Eddie probably bought the
territory just knowing that
Copy !req
233. he had the wherewithal,
the brains,
Copy !req
234. the connections
with the talent,
Copy !req
235. to take the territory
to another level.
Copy !req
236. Hi, I'm B. Brian Blair,
Copy !req
237. and I started wrestling
in Florida in 1977.
Copy !req
238. Got my start right
here in Tampa.
Copy !req
239. Blair has him up,
the Airplane Spin!
Copy !req
240. The Armory was hot.
Copy !req
241. I would call it like
Saturday Night Fever.
Copy !req
242. It was so entertaining.
Copy !req
243. Tonight, we're in a jam
- packed Armory in Tampa,
Copy !req
244. Florida, the home of
Championship Wrestling.
Copy !req
245. All the wrestlers from
Championship Wrestling
Copy !req
246. From Florida gave their all
Copy !req
247. every Tuesday night
at that place.
Copy !req
248. Growing up in Tampa,
wrestlers were just huge.
Copy !req
249. The fans would
come up to them.
Copy !req
250. We couldn't go anywhere
without someone
Copy !req
251. wanting to talk to my
dad or my granddad.
Copy !req
252. And it was telling that
Eddie Graham would have
Copy !req
253. continued good relations
with Vince McMahon Sr,
Copy !req
254. and later on with
Vince McMahon Jr.
Copy !req
255. He was someone that
the other promoters
Copy !req
256. all called to
ask for advice.
Copy !req
257. The president of the
NWA, Eddie Graham,
Copy !req
258. now describing the
conditions in the contract,
Copy !req
259. both wrestlers are to...
Copy !req
260. The National Wrestling
Alliance was an
Copy !req
261. organization of promoters
from regional territories
Copy !req
262. all over the country.
Copy !req
263. There was no major decision
made in the NWA
Copy !req
264. without consulting
Eddie Graham.
Copy !req
265. He was president twice.
Copy !req
266. He was well-respected.
Copy !req
267. But he was a
complicated guy.
Copy !req
268. Eddie would do some
violent things.
Copy !req
269. He was a tough,
tough person.
Copy !req
270. You either did what
he told you to do,
Copy !req
271. or you were out.
Copy !req
272. Now, there was the side of
Eddie Graham that
Copy !req
273. did want to keep
the credibility
Copy !req
274. of the wrestling business,
and guys were expected
Copy !req
275. to lay shit in to
make people believe
Copy !req
276. what they
were doing was real.
Copy !req
277. Eddie Graham was
a stickler. He said,
Copy !req
278. "If anybody here
gets their ass kicked by
Copy !req
279. a mark, you're fired."
In other words,
Copy !req
280. you get your butt kicked
by a wrestling fan,
Copy !req
281. you're out of here.
Copy !req
282. You protect the
business at all costs.
Copy !req
283. I guess you could
call it, um...
Copy !req
284. maybe a, a horror
chamber down there
Copy !req
285. at the Sportatorium.
Copy !req
286. The fellas would say they
wanted to wrestle,
Copy !req
287. and they figured all
you had to do is
Copy !req
288. get in the ring
and perform.
Copy !req
289. They put them through
their paces and, you know,
Copy !req
290. some of them were just-
they couldn't take it.
Copy !req
291. I had to...
Copy !req
292. do things that
I'm not proud of.
Copy !req
293. Ah, that I didn't
like to do, but-
Copy !req
294. A couple of 'em, I did.
Copy !req
295. Well, they wanted you
to break people's bones.
Copy !req
296. Somehow, this guy
got booked for TV.
Copy !req
297. He said, "Oh, I've
worked some local shows.
Copy !req
298. I'm a butcher by trade."
Copy !req
299. And I see Eddie's ears
perk up like a dog's.
Copy !req
300. And the guy says,
Copy !req
301. "I'm gonna make
you look good.
Copy !req
302. I'm gonna tell all the guys
you're a nice guy."
Copy !req
303. So, the guy drifts off in
the corner, and Eddie said,
Copy !req
304. "If he doesn't come back
bleeding, you're through."
Copy !req
305. I kept my job.
Copy !req
306. I had a family.
Copy !req
307. At that period,
it was my livelihood.
Copy !req
308. Right.
Copy !req
309. It wasn't his livelihood.
Copy !req
310. He was gonna go back to
that job no matter what.
Copy !req
311. Worst thing I
probably ever did.
Copy !req
312. Eddie's hard-nosed
ambition to dominate
Copy !req
313. the wrestling trade
is all-consuming.
Copy !req
314. But his desire for power
is far from his only flaw.
Copy !req
315. Wrestler and promoter,
Eddie Graham,
Copy !req
316. is known for his unrelenting
drive, limitless ambition,
Copy !req
317. and his determination to
legitimize the business.
Copy !req
318. Eddie was a go-getter.
Copy !req
319. He had a portfolio
of a lot of property.
Copy !req
320. He expanded outside of
the wrestling business.
Copy !req
321. He wanted to write cheques
rather than receive cheques.
Copy !req
322. Eddie wanted to elevate the
perception of wrestling.
Copy !req
323. That's where he started
getting involved with the
Copy !req
324. Boys Ranch, and with
charitable organizations in
Copy !req
325. every town and every
county in Florida.
Copy !req
326. They're furthering amateur
wrestling programs.
Copy !req
327. Eddie was a rock star
in Florida.
Copy !req
328. I mean, politicians were
kissing Eddie's ass.
Copy !req
329. To be seen on Championship
Wrestling Florida
Copy !req
330. when you were running for
office was a big deal.
Copy !req
331. And I'm sure...
Copy !req
332. Eddie got favours
from that too.
Copy !req
333. Eddie was involved
in everything.
Copy !req
334. I think Eddie put a lot
of pressure on himself.
Copy !req
335. He never wanted to fail
in anything he did.
Copy !req
336. And for most of the
things that he did,
Copy !req
337. like flying and being a
boatsman and that-
Copy !req
338. diving-
he was fabulous.
Copy !req
339. His only problem was that
alcohol got to him.
Copy !req
340. One night, Eddie was
drinking and,
Copy !req
341. decided he was going
out on his boat.
Copy !req
342. And his son, Mike,
was panicking
Copy !req
343. 'cause he took off
in the car.
Copy !req
344. And so, Mike, as a young boy,
he got on his bicycle,
Copy !req
345. and he drove to a cross
bridge over the water.
Copy !req
346. And his idea was
Copy !req
347. he was going to jump off
that bridge and
Copy !req
348. onto the boat, 'cause he was
afraid his father would
Copy !req
349. kill himself out
in the water.
Copy !req
350. And thank God,
he missed the boat.
Copy !req
351. I mean,
it wasn't there.
Copy !req
352. 'Cause if he'd have
jumped off of that bridge,
Copy !req
353. he would have possibly
drowned in the water.
Copy !req
354. That scared Eddie.
Copy !req
355. That was one of his
sobering moments,
Copy !req
356. if you want to call it that.
Copy !req
357. Mike idolized his father,
and vice versa.
Copy !req
358. I believe you told me
that your own boy
Copy !req
359. does quite a
little wrestling.
Copy !req
360. Well, yes, he does.
Copy !req
361. In fact, I'm hoping
he'll take the state...
Copy !req
362. state tournament in
the 95-pound division.
Copy !req
363. - How old is he?
- He's 10 years' old.
Copy !req
364. Even though he's a lovable
father, he was demanding.
Copy !req
365. He put high
expectations on Mike.
Copy !req
366. Then when my dad
started wrestling,
Copy !req
367. he obviously started wrestling
under "Mike Graham".
Copy !req
368. So, maybe that gave him
a little bit more of
Copy !req
369. a chip on his
shoulder at times.
Copy !req
370. At 222 and 1/2 pounds,
Copy !req
371. Mike Graham,
Mike Graham!
Copy !req
372. He gave me all the tools
to get as good as
Copy !req
373. I could get before
I turned pro.
Copy !req
374. But even at that,
the pressure really-
Copy !req
375. and a lot of it
came from him-
Copy !req
376. I loved going someplace
where he wasn't
Copy !req
377. gonna be 'cause
I knew I could go out,
Copy !req
378. I could wrestle.
I could come back,
Copy !req
379. and it wasn't
constant scrutiny.
Copy !req
380. My grandfather did throw my
dad in the ring, be like,
Copy !req
381. "Okay, let's see
what you got."
Copy !req
382. Graham breaking up again.
Arm Drag Takedown.
Copy !req
383. I remember my dad always
saying, "Nicole, don't worry.
Copy !req
384. The bigger they are,
the harder they fall."
Copy !req
385. He was not intimidated
by anyone's size.
Copy !req
386. Mike was shorter and
Copy !req
387. didn't have the same
over-the-top personality.
Copy !req
388. But he had the wrestling
knowledge in there,
Copy !req
389. growing up with
Eddie Graham.
Copy !req
390. There it is, there's the
fall right out of the blue.
Copy !req
391. So, he was a
very good worker.
Copy !req
392. He was in plenty
of great tag teams,
Copy !req
393. but the attention never
went on him, specifically.
Copy !req
394. And to be honest, he didn't
want to be the top guy.
Copy !req
395. He didn't want to be the
big star because people
Copy !req
396. would have said it was
because of his father.
Copy !req
397. Mike swallowed
a lot of shit,
Copy !req
398. you know,
and let things go.
Copy !req
399. He did as well,
if not better,
Copy !req
400. than anybody I ever saw
at being a promoter's kid,
Copy !req
401. to blend in
with the guys.
Copy !req
402. And Graham
after Kevin Sullivan.
Copy !req
403. I had the pleasure
of being his partner,
Copy !req
404. and I had the pleasure
of being his opponent.
Copy !req
405. Can't believe this!
They're going to hang him!
Copy !req
406. I get violent, Sullivan.
I'm waiting for you.
Copy !req
407. If you got on
Mike's bad side,
Copy !req
408. you were on his bad side and
he wasn't gonna back down.
Copy !req
409. He knew the pressure
he was under.
Copy !req
410. He couldn't go home if
he got his ass kicked.
Copy !req
411. My grandpa was bloody
all the time, right?
Copy !req
412. My dad also was bloody.
Copy !req
413. So, mornings
in my house,
Copy !req
414. my mom would get my
brother and I up.
Copy !req
415. My dad would be in bed
'cause he'd get home so late,
Copy !req
416. and he was just
hungover and beat up.
Copy !req
417. And we'd go in to like
kiss my dad goodbye
Copy !req
418. in the morning, and there'd
be like tape on his forehead
Copy !req
419. with blood and like bite
marks on his finger, and...
Copy !req
420. the smell of alcohol
oozing from his body.
Copy !req
421. And,
we'd kiss him goodbye.
Copy !req
422. "See you later, Dad!
Have a good day!"
Copy !req
423. Let me turn right
now to Mike Graham
Copy !req
424. because I know he's...
Copy !req
425. As the 1980s dawned,
Mike Graham joins Eddie
Copy !req
426. in steering the ship at
Championship Wrestling
Copy !req
427. From Florida, as the
company becomes a
Copy !req
428. breeding ground for
wrestling legends...
Copy !req
429. including Hulk Hogan,
Ric Flair,
Copy !req
430. and Dusty Rhodes.
Copy !req
431. I am the dream!
I am the man!
Copy !req
432. Go on with it, baby!
Copy !req
433. Dusty was like the
original surrogate son.
Copy !req
434. He loved Dusty, and
Dusty loved him too.
Copy !req
435. Dusty Rhodes, of course,
was always around.
Copy !req
436. We'd all go out to
the beach together.
Copy !req
437. Dusty would always say that
fat looks better tan.
Copy !req
438. Eddie Graham took
Dusty under his wing,
Copy !req
439. and he became the most
popular wrestler in the
Copy !req
440. history in the
state of Florida.
Copy !req
441. When Dusty
turned babyface,
Copy !req
442. the territory was on fire.
Copy !req
443. All of us became so close,
we were like family.
Copy !req
444. And now the
ring beginning to fill.
Copy !req
445. Gerry Brisco charges in!
Don Serrano!
Copy !req
446. Brian Blair! And a
host of others!
Copy !req
447. As this younger generation
elevates the territory to
Copy !req
448. a whole new level,
Eddie, now in his 50s,
Copy !req
449. decides to quit the
ring for good...
Copy !req
450. just as his pursuits
outside of the business
Copy !req
451. begin to
bring him trouble.
Copy !req
452. There were a lot of things
going on in Eddie's life.
Copy !req
453. He was torn
between two women.
Copy !req
454. He was in business with
some shady characters.
Copy !req
455. I could tell that Eddie
was drinking too much.
Copy !req
456. He was maybe taking
too much medication.
Copy !req
457. He had a lot of struggles
in his life, um...
Copy !req
458. personally.
Copy !req
459. When he came
back on the plane
Copy !req
460. at nighttime...
Copy !req
461. there was a store
that was open,
Copy !req
462. and he could get a cheap
bottle of wine there.
Copy !req
463. Every time he was driving,
Copy !req
464. he would chug-a-lug
that wine down,
Copy !req
465. and he would take
the bottle and
Copy !req
466. he'd throw it
out of the car...
Copy !req
467. into the grass.
Copy !req
468. And he came
home one night,
Copy !req
469. and the place
wasn't open.
Copy !req
470. And he was so desperate.
Copy !req
471. He went out into
the field there,
Copy !req
472. and he grovelled around
in the dirt and
Copy !req
473. found all these bottles, and
he sat there in the field
Copy !req
474. and drank the dregs
out of those bottles.
Copy !req
475. By this time, alcohol
had taken over.
Copy !req
476. He couldn't stop.
Copy !req
477. Consumed by
his alcoholism,
Copy !req
478. and burdened with personal
and professional troubles,
Copy !req
479. Eddie Graham struggles
to find meaning
Copy !req
480. beyond the ring.
Copy !req
481. Over time, people forget
who you are, right?
Copy !req
482. My grandmother told a story
about how they had gone to
Copy !req
483. a restaurant, and they
didn't know who he was.
Copy !req
484. He wasn't in the
spotlight anymore,
Copy !req
485. but I remember my
grandmother being like,
Copy !req
486. how he was just not himself
after that encounter.
Copy !req
487. When that career is over,
who are you?
Copy !req
488. Who's looking back
in the mirror?
Copy !req
489. One of the last cheques
my grandfather wrote
Copy !req
490. was to a liquor
store for $8.
Copy !req
491. In the memo, it said,
"Peace of Mind".
Copy !req
492. I think if anyone's had time
of their life and
Copy !req
493. they just can't find comfort
within themselves,
Copy !req
494. and they feel like
everything's out of control,
Copy !req
495. you just don't have
that peace of mind and,
Copy !req
496. he couldn't find it.
Copy !req
497. He turned 55.
Copy !req
498. And, I had gone over to
my grandparents' house.
Copy !req
499. And I was roller-skating,
and so I was like skating
Copy !req
500. around him in circles,
and I'm like,
Copy !req
501. "So, what did you get
for your birthday?"
Copy !req
502. He's like, "55."
I was like, "55 what?"
Copy !req
503. He said, "55 years."
Copy !req
504. Looking back, I realize,
Copy !req
505. he was telling me
that he was...
Copy !req
506. done.
Copy !req
507. That he got 55 years,
was what he had.
Copy !req
508. I was at the Super Bowl.
The Miami Dolphins
Copy !req
509. were playing the
San Francisco 49ers.
Copy !req
510. They paged me,
"Mike Graham!
Copy !req
511. Mike Graham! Please come
to the box office."
Copy !req
512. I walked into the box
office, and said, "Hey,
Copy !req
513. my name's Mike Graham.
You paged me?"
Copy !req
514. And the woman goes, "Oh,
yeah, you gotta call home."
Copy !req
515. Call home.
Copy !req
516. "What's wrong, what's wrong,
what's wrong?"
Copy !req
517. "It's your dad."
"Dad?
Copy !req
518. What's wrong
with my dad?"
Copy !req
519. His wife, Lucy,
went out-
Copy !req
520. is what she told
my daughter.
Copy !req
521. And when she came back,
he had shot himself,
Copy !req
522. not once,
but twice.
Copy !req
523. That's what I heard from
what the coroner said.
Copy !req
524. And, I will spare you
the gory details
Copy !req
525. about the bedroom.
Copy !req
526. He's in the hospital, and
he's hooked up to machines,
Copy !req
527. and a family member
has to say to
Copy !req
528. unplug him or
keep him alive.
Copy !req
529. And I got back home
the next morning...
Copy !req
530. and went to the hospital,
and there he sat,
Copy !req
531. back in the corner of his
head all bandaged up
Copy !req
532. and everything.
Copy !req
533. And I said, "Well,
it was no accident."
Copy !req
534. So, I looked at Mom,
and I said, "Mom,
Copy !req
535. you know,
we gotta do it.
Copy !req
536. He wouldn't want to be
here like this."
Copy !req
537. So, we went out and said,
"Okay, pull it."
Copy !req
538. And he lived about...
Copy !req
539. ah, 5 minutes.
Copy !req
540. It was shocking.
Copy !req
541. I mean, everybody was
in a state of shock.
Copy !req
542. It is with a deep set of
regret that I announce to you
Copy !req
543. at this time the untimely
death of a friend,
Copy !req
544. a colleague,
and a leader...
Copy !req
545. Eddie Graham.
Copy !req
546. I immediately
started crying.
Copy !req
547. I, I couldn't
believe it, I mean...
Copy !req
548. Why?
Why, Eddie?
Copy !req
549. Why would you do
that to your son?
Copy !req
550. To your...
Copy !req
551. to your grandchildren.
Copy !req
552. We were young, but
my brother was like,
Copy !req
553. "If he loved us so much,
how could he do this?"
Copy !req
554. My brother was very attached
to my grandfather,
Copy !req
555. yeah,
very attached.
Copy !req
556. I think that people
knew he was depressed,
Copy !req
557. but they never thought
Eddie would go that far.
Copy !req
558. He was keeping
that to himself.
Copy !req
559. I think he bottled a
lot of it up because
Copy !req
560. he didn't want people to
know he wasn't
Copy !req
561. as strong as his
outside persona was.
Copy !req
562. He realized that if he let
people know he was weak that
Copy !req
563. there were people that would
love to have just walked in
Copy !req
564. and taken over, and I think
he was probably
Copy !req
565. fighting for the
territory, too.
Copy !req
566. We hear the news, "Eddie
Graham's dead." And...
Copy !req
567. holy shit, what's gonna
happen to Florida?
Copy !req
568. We found out
within a year,
Copy !req
569. Florida was on
its last legs.
Copy !req
570. Vince McMahon was starting
the national expansion
Copy !req
571. in 1984, and the territories
were going out of business
Copy !req
572. because Vince was trying
to suck up all the talent.
Copy !req
573. When WWE...
Copy !req
574. started robbing
the territories,
Copy !req
575. Eddie saw the writing
on the wall...
Copy !req
576. probably much earlier than
most of the people did.
Copy !req
577. Yeah.
Copy !req
578. Yeah, big time.
Copy !req
579. Well, Dusty left.
Copy !req
580. Took the whole
crew with him.
Copy !req
581. Dad had spent years
getting Dusty over and
Copy !req
582. creating Dusty Rhodes,
but when Dusty left,
Copy !req
583. he took half the
territory with him.
Copy !req
584. And that really
made Dad mad.
Copy !req
585. It was like he was almost
trying to kill the territory
Copy !req
586. for taking all the
talent with him.
Copy !req
587. In 1984, Dusty Rhodes
leaves Florida
Copy !req
588. to work for
Jim Crockett Promotions.
Copy !req
589. With the wrestling
industry in chaos,
Copy !req
590. Mike Graham is still reeling
from his father's death
Copy !req
591. when he inherits the
daunting task of leading
Copy !req
592. Championship Wrestling
From Florida.
Copy !req
593. Mike picked up like a man,
Copy !req
594. ran the territory and...
Copy !req
595. you know,
life went on.
Copy !req
596. Mike was,
obviously,
Copy !req
597. attempting to
fill his father's shoes.
Copy !req
598. It wasn't just him trying
to do everything,
Copy !req
599. but it just, it wasn't
the same place.
Copy !req
600. Where have you been?
You've been home!
Copy !req
601. - Hey, shut up a second!
Copy !req
602. They even ran an angle
after Eddie's death.
Copy !req
603. The Freebirds
were down there,
Copy !req
604. and they were trying to heat
things up, and they thought,
Copy !req
605. well, if we desecrate the
memory of Florida's most
Copy !req
606. popular wrestler ever,
then the fans will hate us.
Copy !req
607. Like father, like son!
You're a loser!
Copy !req
608. Eddie would have wanted
Mike to use his death
Copy !req
609. in something that
enhanced wrestling.
Copy !req
610. I'm gonna prove to you that
he was more of a man
Copy !req
611. than the three of you will
ever be as long as you live.
Copy !req
612. Your are mine.
Copy !req
613. It was too far,
it was too much.
Copy !req
614. The fans could tell it was
desperation because
Copy !req
615. they could see the
crowds had shrunk.
Copy !req
616. At the time, things
were already shifting.
Copy !req
617. I guess cable TV was
starting to come out.
Copy !req
618. And my dad was
just trying to
Copy !req
619. keep it afloat and,
no matter what he did,
Copy !req
620. it wasn't gonna
quite stay afloat.
Copy !req
621. Struggling under the
weight of Eddie's absence,
Copy !req
622. the once great territory
lasts just two more years
Copy !req
623. before closing its doors.
Copy !req
624. Eddie would've been the only
one to be able to save it
Copy !req
625. because of all
the NWA promoters,
Copy !req
626. of every other territory
in the country,
Copy !req
627. the one guy that had the
best relationship
Copy !req
628. with Vince McMahon Sr,
Copy !req
629. and would have had
one with Vince Jr,
Copy !req
630. was Eddie Graham,
and he was gone.
Copy !req
631. Mike and I were at a bar
Copy !req
632. having a couple beers...
Copy !req
633. just talking about his dad,
and all of a sudden,
Copy !req
634. he broke down.
Copy !req
635. I could tell that his dad
not being there
Copy !req
636. weighed heavy on Mike
every single day.
Copy !req
637. Already grieving the death
of his father and the
Copy !req
638. loss of their family's
wrestling empire,
Copy !req
639. Mike Graham is soon to face
another devastating tragedy.
Copy !req
640. Following his father's death
and the collapse of
Copy !req
641. their company, Mike Graham
must now forge a new path
Copy !req
642. outside the promotion that
has defined his life's work.
Copy !req
643. This should be an
interesting matchup-
Copy !req
644. Mike Graham and
Diamond Dallas Page-
Copy !req
645. to take on Bill Cashier and
Jushin "Thunder" Liger.
Copy !req
646. By that point, Mike was
closing in on 40.
Copy !req
647. He got a position with WCW,
and he was trying to
Copy !req
648. help mentor some of
the younger guys.
Copy !req
649. Obviously, people who knew
Mike and knew Eddie
Copy !req
650. respected him and etc.,
but I think, unfortunately,
Copy !req
651. he never made his mark in WCW
as anybody with a lot of pull
Copy !req
652. because he was just one of
the soldiers at that point.
Copy !req
653. Ah, right in the face!
Copy !req
654. I think that when it shifted
and it was more theatrics,
Copy !req
655. it was being written by
people that had no idea
Copy !req
656. about wrestling,
he got a little bit bitter
Copy !req
657. 'cause he was old school.
Copy !req
658. My dad was definitely
not a corporate guy.
Copy !req
659. Mike never reached the
pinnacle of Eddie's dreams,
Copy !req
660. but he still had a very
successful wrestling career
Copy !req
661. and, he was a
good businessman.
Copy !req
662. He had a great lifestyle,
he lived on the water.
Copy !req
663. He had a multitude
of boats.
Copy !req
664. He won a bunch of
offshore races.
Copy !req
665. My brother loved
racing boats, and so,
Copy !req
666. my dad and brother
actually got the chance
Copy !req
667. to race a couple times.
Copy !req
668. My dad never wanted
to sit still.
Copy !req
669. He would always
be like,
Copy !req
670. "Yeah, you sleep
when you die."
Copy !req
671. He got his first tattoo
when he was 40,
Copy !req
672. and it was, like a skull
with like fire coming
Copy !req
673. out of the head and
a lightning bolt
Copy !req
674. going through it.
Copy !req
675. And then underneath it,
it said, "Peace of Mind".
Copy !req
676. So, my dad would always
talk to my brother about it.
Copy !req
677. Peace of mind, like,
if you don't have it...
Copy !req
678. you have nothing.
Copy !req
679. But like his
father before him,
Copy !req
680. Mike's search for inner
peace often ends
Copy !req
681. at the bottom of a bottle.
Copy !req
682. He had two driver's
licenses, actually.
Copy !req
683. One, legally,
under Mike Gossett,
Copy !req
684. and one under
Mike Graham.
Copy !req
685. So, Mike Gossett
got one DUI.
Copy !req
686. Then Mike Graham got one.
Copy !req
687. And then, his drinking
got so much worse.
Copy !req
688. After my grandfather
passed away,
Copy !req
689. he was miserable and...
Copy !req
690. it just,
he changed.
Copy !req
691. Normally, you know,
my dad was not like that.
Copy !req
692. He never showed that
side to my brother and I.
Copy !req
693. He was always
just upbeat.
Copy !req
694. More tough to like
my brother, I think,
Copy !req
695. because he wanted him to
be a strong, strong man.
Copy !req
696. Stephen did have
to fight and...
Copy !req
697. prove that he wasn't
a wimp, growing up.
Copy !req
698. Because he was from a
wrestling family and
Copy !req
699. he did have kind of like
a stronger build,
Copy !req
700. I think everyone
expected him to be
Copy !req
701. some tough,
mean guy.
Copy !req
702. I think that that hurt him
in the long run,
Copy !req
703. but he just kind of
never found his stride.
Copy !req
704. We talked every day,
you know,
Copy !req
705. text, phone call,
whatever.
Copy !req
706. I sent my brother a
text in the morning,
Copy !req
707. and he didn't respond,
and I just thought
Copy !req
708. he was working or
doing something.
Copy !req
709. And then my
dad called me,
Copy !req
710. asking me if I'd
heard from Stephen.
Copy !req
711. And I was like,
"I'll go check on him."
Copy !req
712. And so, that's how
we found out...
Copy !req
713. that he took his life.
Copy !req
714. When I found my brother,
I, you know,
Copy !req
715. ran outside and I
called my dad first.
Copy !req
716. My dad was saying
he'd be there.
Copy !req
717. I'm like, "No, no, don't
come here, don't come here."
Copy !req
718. And so, once I
was able to leave,
Copy !req
719. I walked in the kitchen
with my dad, and he said...
Copy !req
720. He said, "It's a
good thing you found Stephen
Copy !req
721. because if I would
have found him,
Copy !req
722. you'd be burying both of us
'cause I'd have
Copy !req
723. taken my life right
then and there."
Copy !req
724. It just floored me.
Copy !req
725. I don't know what the demons
were that got him.
Copy !req
726. Again, now I hear his, his
sister, poor, little Nicole,
Copy !req
727. you know, just...
distraught.
Copy !req
728. His dad, everybody,
distraught, you know.
Copy !req
729. It just didn't have to be.
Copy !req
730. I wasn't expecting it,
um, at all.
Copy !req
731. 'Cause Stephen and I went
through and saw
Copy !req
732. how hard it was with
my grandfather.
Copy !req
733. We saw what it
did to my dad.
Copy !req
734. We saw how it absolutely
destroyed our family.
Copy !req
735. But, with my grandfather
doing what he did,
Copy !req
736. I felt that it
made it an option.
Copy !req
737. It turned into something
that my brother felt,
Copy !req
738. "Ah, he did it." Now we
have my grandfather,
Copy !req
739. and my brother-
who is my best friend-
Copy !req
740. you know, and I
found my brother.
Copy !req
741. So, everyone was so
worried about me.
Copy !req
742. But, I was worried
about my dad.
Copy !req
743. Haunted by the death of
his son, Stephen,
Copy !req
744. in 2010, Mike Graham
struggles with the pain of
Copy !req
745. losing another family
member to suicide.
Copy !req
746. I think every parent
blames themself.
Copy !req
747. He said, "I must have
been a shitty son and
Copy !req
748. a shitty father."
Pretty heavy.
Copy !req
749. Sometimes we're our
own worst critics,
Copy !req
750. and we're hard on ourselves
about different things, and...
Copy !req
751. I think that, you know,
there's many things that
Copy !req
752. Mike could have
thought about,
Copy !req
753. and it was just another
one of the things
Copy !req
754. just knocking on
the bad side of his brain.
Copy !req
755. You know, between his dad
and now my brother,
Copy !req
756. he just, he just absolutely
was crushed.
Copy !req
757. Mike and I were close,
but we weren't that
Copy !req
758. fuzzy, fuzzy good
feeling close.
Copy !req
759. He called me up
and said,
Copy !req
760. "Hey, you know I
love you, right?"
Copy !req
761. I said, "I love you too,
Mike."
Copy !req
762. And that was it,
he hung up the phone.
Copy !req
763. My dad met my daughter
and I at a park,
Copy !req
764. and I was like, "Dad,
this ends with Stephen."
Copy !req
765. I'm like, "Look at her.
She doesn't deserve this.
Copy !req
766. What your dad
did was horrible.
Copy !req
767. What Stephen did...
Copy !req
768. we're never gonna recover
from it, but this ends now.
Copy !req
769. Look at her.
She doesn't deserve this."
Copy !req
770. And he was like,
"You're right, Nicole.
Copy !req
771. You're right, Nicole.
You're right."
Copy !req
772. Less than two years later,
he did the same.
Copy !req
773. Well, he was in
Daytona Beach.
Copy !req
774. Bike Week or
something...
Copy !req
775. with his wife.
Copy !req
776. And...
Copy !req
777. from what I gather...
Copy !req
778. she went outside and said
Copy !req
779. she was gonna go
see some friends.
Copy !req
780. When she got back
and opened the door,
Copy !req
781. simultaneously she
heard a gunshot.
Copy !req
782. And, there was Mike-
Copy !req
783. dead- in his son
Stephen's boots.
Copy !req
784. He couldn't
break the cycle.
Copy !req
785. You can't see what's
behind the person's eyes.
Copy !req
786. They're telling you one
thing, they're smiling,
Copy !req
787. but they may be,
you know,
Copy !req
788. they may be just absolutely
torn up inside.
Copy !req
789. Then you realize he's gone.
Copy !req
790. End of story,
you know.
Copy !req
791. No more,
there's no more.
Copy !req
792. I mean, I was still trying
to pick up the pieces
Copy !req
793. after my brother.
Copy !req
794. And it wasn't, it was less
than two years apart
Copy !req
795. between my brother
and my dad.
Copy !req
796. After the conversations
I had with my dad,
Copy !req
797. asking him, telling him,
begging him,
Copy !req
798. "Please, this ends
with Stephen,"
Copy !req
799. it was just a different
level of pain.
Copy !req
800. Mike had been away from
wrestling for some time,
Copy !req
801. and I hadn't seen him
in years,
Copy !req
802. but then the news
comes out, and I-
Copy !req
803. That was a shock.
Copy !req
804. Even if you're not shocked
at anything in wrestling,
Copy !req
805. you still think, well,
the same thing
Copy !req
806. can't happen to two
different generations.
Copy !req
807. They can't do
the same thing.
Copy !req
808. And it happened to
three generations.
Copy !req
809. You just,
how much...
Copy !req
810. the same family, what-
how much more can go on?
Copy !req
811. The pattern of suicide that
haunts the Gossett family
Copy !req
812. reaches far beyond Eddie,
Mike, and Stephen.
Copy !req
813. This heartbreaking
cycle of tragedy actually
Copy !req
814. spans four generations,
and five men.
Copy !req
815. A lot of people
don't know this,
Copy !req
816. but Eddie's father
killed himself.
Copy !req
817. And also, Eddie's brother,
Skip, killed himself.
Copy !req
818. It's a very vicious cycle
Copy !req
819. when you have more
than one suicide.
Copy !req
820. One suicide is
one too many.
Copy !req
821. But when you have multiple
suicides within
Copy !req
822. the same family
structure, it's...
Copy !req
823. just tragic.
Copy !req
824. My only explanation
or thought,
Copy !req
825. 'cause I'm not a
doctor, obviously,
Copy !req
826. but is that when
one happens,
Copy !req
827. then it makes it viable
for someone else
Copy !req
828. when they're
having a hard time.
Copy !req
829. And also, the fact
that depression and
Copy !req
830. addiction is hereditary.
Copy !req
831. And unless you have
someone step in and
Copy !req
832. recognize it, and
get help, and...
Copy !req
833. let them know that it's not
normal what you're feeling,
Copy !req
834. but it's gonna be okay,
Copy !req
835. that just wasn't quite
happening in my family.
Copy !req
836. Big-time lesson to learn,
because it isn't just...
Copy !req
837. the people that go.
Copy !req
838. It's the people that
are left behind.
Copy !req
839. Every burden for
Nicole to carry,
Copy !req
840. and every burden
for her daughter.
Copy !req
841. We are at the old Armory,
which is now the
Copy !req
842. Brian Glazer Jewish
Community Center.
Copy !req
843. And, Larry Simon,
who was Boris Malenka,
Copy !req
844. who my grandfather
had huge feuds with,
Copy !req
845. his son helped put this
together in a way to
Copy !req
846. commemorate all the
wrestlers that came here
Copy !req
847. every Tuesday for
many, many years.
Copy !req
848. So, it's, it's pretty
great to see, actually.
Copy !req
849. This is my, my dad
and my grandfather.
Copy !req
850. Mike and
Eddie Graham have won
Copy !req
851. the Florida tag team
championship.
Copy !req
852. "Nothing can keep
the fans away.
Copy !req
853. This was the home of
the Titans of Tampa.
Copy !req
854. And this will always be
the house that
Copy !req
855. Championship Wrestling
From Florida built."
Copy !req
856. I think wrestling fans
should know that
Copy !req
857. they absolutely
respected the fans.
Copy !req
858. And I hope that the fans
that met them felt that.
Copy !req
859. There was so much good.
Copy !req
860. So much laughter.
Copy !req
861. A lot of good times,
and...
Copy !req
862. those are the things that I
focus on more than anything
Copy !req
863. else because they were
really exceptional people.
Copy !req
864. I remember Eddie, my
Papaw, as bare-chested,
Copy !req
865. with a cast net off the
dock catching mullet for us.
Copy !req
866. A lot of love,
a lot of love.
Copy !req
867. My brother, my bestie,
my best friend.
Copy !req
868. I just wish he knew how
everyone loved him and
Copy !req
869. wanted to be
there for him.
Copy !req
870. Dad.
Copy !req
871. We had that...
Copy !req
872. tough relationship because
I called him out on things.
Copy !req
873. But there was so much
love and respect.
Copy !req
874. I miss my dad so much.
Copy !req
875. I wish he was here to
see my daughter grow up.
Copy !req
876. Because he's
missing out on a lot,
Copy !req
877. but that I miss him.
Copy !req
878. Some of the best times
of my life were
Copy !req
879. with the Grahams,
and...
Copy !req
880. with all the people that the
Grahams brought in.
Copy !req
881. There is a plethora
of good times.
Copy !req
882. A plethora of good times.
Copy !req
883. They were dear
friends of mine.
Copy !req
884. I enjoyed my
time with them.
Copy !req
885. Wish we could have
had a lot more days.
Copy !req
886. The thing to do is
not dwell on the bad.
Copy !req
887. Dwell on the good, that's
what gets me through.
Copy !req
888. Nicole,
love her, love her.
Copy !req
889. She's the legacy
of that family.
Copy !req
890. This is my grandfather
being silly with me, always.
Copy !req
891. And it took me a while
to get to a place where
Copy !req
892. I felt like I could finally
offer some type of assistance.
Copy !req
893. And so, I found the Crisis
Center of Tampa Bay.
Copy !req
894. And they offer
amazing services and,
Copy !req
895. I feel that I've come to
a point in my recovery and
Copy !req
896. healing that I can,
hopefully,
Copy !req
897. get a word out there that may
strike a chord with someone
Copy !req
898. to make them call for help,
or survivors that are
Copy !req
899. struggling to get
out of bed because
Copy !req
900. they've lost
family members,
Copy !req
901. to know that they should
live their lives,
Copy !req
902. to honour those
that they have lost.
Copy !req
903. There has to be a lesson to
everybody that's watching
Copy !req
904. this program that if
you feel suicidal,
Copy !req
905. there's help just right
around the corner.
Copy !req
906. And, I don't care
who you are,
Copy !req
907. somebody loves you.
Always.
Copy !req
908. You have to just make that
step by reaching out to
Copy !req
909. someone, just to say,
"Something's not right.
Copy !req
910. I'm having
these thoughts."
Copy !req
911. Just speak up,
is what I'd ask.
Copy !req
912. You can have fame,
family, money, like,
Copy !req
913. but if you don't have
that peace of mind,
Copy !req
914. you have nothing.
Copy !req
915. My grandfather and my dad
clearly didn't have it.
Copy !req
916. And, my brother
didn't have it,
Copy !req
917. but it occurred to me
Copy !req
918. less than a year ago
that I have it.
Copy !req
919. And I had been wanting
to get a tattoo-
Copy !req
920. I'm not a tattoo person-
Copy !req
921. and all I wanted was my
handwriting that says,
Copy !req
922. "peace of mind"
and a semicolon,
Copy !req
923. which represents mental
health, you know,
Copy !req
924. suicide awareness.
Very simple.
Copy !req
925. And it's just an
amazing reminder of
Copy !req
926. where I've gotten
with my life,
Copy !req
927. and how I feel in peace.
Copy !req
928. I have so much to
be grateful for,
Copy !req
929. and I'm going to live my
best life because
Copy !req
930. that's the best way
I can honour them.
Copy !req
931. I am so happy right now.
Things are great.
Copy !req
932. My daughter's thriving.
Amazing friends, family.
Copy !req
933. Like, I'm, I'm really
happy actually.
Copy !req
934. Does it show?
Copy !req
