1. Previously, on
Dark Side of the Ring...
Copy !req
2. Sure, you can watch
the Hollywood Blonds,
Copy !req
3. and we could've been a great
tag team if we'd been
Copy !req
4. left together, but if you can
watch Flyin' Brian in his
Copy !req
5. total element being
the Loose Cannon,
Copy !req
6. you're seeing one
of the true really, really
Copy !req
7. bright minds in the business
of professional wrestling.
Copy !req
8. What the... are you doing?
Easy!
Copy !req
9. He was on track to becoming the
biggest star in wrestling
Copy !req
10. by convincing people that
he was the only one
Copy !req
11. that wouldn't do
what he was told.
Copy !req
12. I have been fired...
Copy !req
13. by Eric Bischoff!
Copy !req
14. Brian and I talked about it.
"I can't give you what you want.
Copy !req
15. Raise the value in your stock
so that when you come back,
Copy !req
16. it'll give me the
ability to pay you more
Copy !req
17. 'cause you've
raised your own value."
Copy !req
18. Brian Pillman masterminded a
cutting edge character
Copy !req
19. the wrestling world
had never seen.
Copy !req
20. Playing the system
at its own game,
Copy !req
21. he single-handedly turned
the industry on its head
Copy !req
22. in order to manipulate
his way to the top.
Copy !req
23. If he played one side
against the other
Copy !req
24. in the middle of the
burgeoning wrestling war,
Copy !req
25. then he would come
out much better,
Copy !req
26. six figures per year better.
Copy !req
27. But did he want it for himself?
Copy !req
28. He didn't care about himself.
Copy !req
29. He cared about
those little kids.
Copy !req
30. Lost inside his
manic performance art,
Copy !req
31. Brian's real life
spirals out of control.
Copy !req
32. He's depended on to provide
for several different
Copy !req
33. mothers and families, and I
think that does weigh on a man.
Copy !req
34. A tragic turn of events
would not only alter
Copy !req
35. the course of Brian's
career indefinitely,
Copy !req
36. but also the lives of
those closest to him.
Copy !req
37. I really believe that if it was
not for the Humvee wreck,
Copy !req
38. that everything would
have turned out differently.
Copy !req
39. Melanie called me, and
she called to tell me that
Copy !req
40. Brian had an accident
and it was bad.
Copy !req
41. And he was airlifted to
the university hospital.
Copy !req
42. And, was in the
emergency room so,
Copy !req
43. again, I was the lucky
one to go to the hospital.
Copy !req
44. And I thought, oh,
Jesus, here we go again.
Copy !req
45. When I got to the hospital,
I walked right by the room.
Copy !req
46. And then Linda's like,
that's his room, Melanie.
Copy !req
47. I'm like, "That's
not my husband."
Copy !req
48. She's like, "I know, it doesn't
look like him, does it?"
Copy !req
49. 'Cause his hair was
red with all the blood,
Copy !req
50. and they had him
in a neck brace.
Copy !req
51. I mean, his head was swelled
up like a beach ball.
Copy !req
52. And I thought, oh, my god...
Copy !req
53. It was really bad.
His eyes were red, like,
Copy !req
54. I didn't see any colour
than red, like blood.
Copy !req
55. His eyes were just, ugh.
Copy !req
56. He had six different
doctors for his face.
Copy !req
57. There's one that
just does the forehead,
Copy !req
58. the lower mandible,
the upper mandible,
Copy !req
59. the nose, the eye sockets.
Copy !req
60. Everything in his
face was shattered.
Copy !req
61. They had to put plates
in his face and
Copy !req
62. they peeled his scalp back...
Copy !req
63. to make the incision,
and peeled his face down
Copy !req
64. to put the plates in.
Copy !req
65. Word travels quickly that
Brian has been in a terrible
Copy !req
66. car accident, and there's
talk of him losing a foot.
Copy !req
67. His ankle was shattered.
Copy !req
68. In fact, the nurse told
me that it was just like
Copy !req
69. hanging off the table.
Copy !req
70. She had to pick it up to
put it back on the table.
Copy !req
71. And then the doctor said,
you know, that they would
Copy !req
72. have to just fuse it into a
walking position,
Copy !req
73. that he wouldn't probably
be able to run.
Copy !req
74. Or, or even wrestle again.
Copy !req
75. I show up, and he
goes,
Copy !req
76. I said, "Don't talk, Brian.
It's alright.
Copy !req
77. Hey, I'm with you,
I'm with you."
Copy !req
78. I'm thinking, holy ...,
I don't know...
Copy !req
79. And then he's got
a titanium mask,
Copy !req
80. and he's got things
holding his legs together.
Copy !req
81. I remember him crying in
the hospital, just saying,
Copy !req
82. he said, "I really messed up.
I really messed up."
Copy !req
83. 'Cause he thought, you know,
his career was over.
Copy !req
84. And I said, "Just be grateful
you were by yourself,
Copy !req
85. there was no kids
in the car. It'll be fine."
Copy !req
86. But he, he was crying,
saying, "I really messed up."
Copy !req
87. Oh, he fell asleep at the wheel.
He had been up and...
Copy !req
88. he went and picked up
some of his medication,
Copy !req
89. and I guess it hit him too
soon before he got back to
Copy !req
90. the house and you know,
he just drove into a...
Copy !req
91. into a tree trunk off the side
and it threw the Humvee,
Copy !req
92. totaled the Humvee.
Copy !req
93. No, just those...
Copy !req
94. muscle relaxers.
Copy !req
95. Maybe a few pain pills.
Copy !req
96. Well, we are turning the
microphone over to you, sir.
Copy !req
97. We don't need any police
reports or doctor reports.
Copy !req
98. Can you tell us, in your
own words, what happened?
Copy !req
99. Oh, my lord.
Copy !req
100. When he came home
from the hospital,
Copy !req
101. I do remember him
being in the living room,
Copy !req
102. and I had a gift and I
wanted to give it to him.
Copy !req
103. And, I was just
terrified 'cause I'm like,
Copy !req
104. that's not my dad.
I don't know who that is.
Copy !req
105. You know, as a child and
seeing my father like that,
Copy !req
106. I think it just kind of
freaked me out a little bit.
Copy !req
107. I do have some small
memories there of just
Copy !req
108. seeing those bolts and how
they're just screwed into
Copy !req
109. his leg and I'm thinking,
what's going on here, you know?
Copy !req
110. And then, it's like...
Then they look like
Copy !req
111. they're greased up,
but it's like, not grease,
Copy !req
112. but it's like blood
and like, just the...
Copy !req
113. It's all hardened and it's just,
Copy !req
114. oh, it was just a
wild sight to see, you know,
Copy !req
115. just some, some rusty bolts
sticking out of your dad's leg.
Copy !req
116. Yeah, I just, I really
remember him just being like
Copy !req
117. so exhausted...
Copy !req
118. and rundown.
Copy !req
119. I was just too young
to really understand, like,
Copy !req
120. what was really
going on with him,
Copy !req
121. and like, how ragged
his life had become.
Copy !req
122. The Loose Cannon thing had
gone so far at this point
Copy !req
123. that a lot of the guys were
convinced there was no wreck
Copy !req
124. and it was Brian working again,
Copy !req
125. and they're just trying to
figure out what the angle is.
Copy !req
126. How does he expect to get
more money out of this,
Copy !req
127. or more attention out of this?
Copy !req
128. Or, you know, was it really
a wreck or maybe he just
Copy !req
129. ran his car off the road and,
and wrecked it to get,
Copy !req
130. you know, publicity.
Copy !req
131. He had created so much,
not only mystery,
Copy !req
132. but confusion about himself
that even the guys that were
Copy !req
133. his friends weren't exactly
sure how to take him.
Copy !req
134. Perhaps he would have
done that for attention.
Copy !req
135. And Kim, who would not work me,
Copy !req
136. Kim is just like,
"No, no, no. It's, it's real."
Copy !req
137. And I told people, I go,
"It's real," and you know,
Copy !req
138. I think most people didn't
believe me either.
Copy !req
139. He was, you know, there's
the Andy Kaufman thing
Copy !req
140. in him, faking an auto accident,
Copy !req
141. perhaps he would have
done that for attention.
Copy !req
142. There was even at one point
a rumor that some of the
Copy !req
143. wrestlers put out that he
was having plastic surgery
Copy !req
144. to look just like Shawn Michaels
so he could go into
Copy !req
145. the World Wrestling
Federation and be the evil
Copy !req
146. Shawn Michaels and
fight him for the title.
Copy !req
147. Guys believed that...
Copy !req
148. 'cause they
thought Brian was nuts.
Copy !req
149. While the wrestling rumor
mill is speculating
Copy !req
150. the authenticity of
the accident,
Copy !req
151. media outlets also
question Brian's intentions.
Copy !req
152. Brian, now, you're not
having plastic surgery and,
Copy !req
153. you know, gonna go into the
WWF as Shawn Michaels' twin
Copy !req
154. or something?
Copy !req
155. I don't know what goes
on in America online.
Copy !req
156. Oh, it's
preposterous, but...
Copy !req
157. I can look back,
and Brian was pretty
Copy !req
158. honest with me most of the time.
Copy !req
159. But the one where I know
that he wasn't was
Copy !req
160. right after the accident.
And Brian, you know, said like,
Copy !req
161. "Oh, yeah, the doctors
told me, you know, like,
Copy !req
162. it's gonna take a while,
but I will be 100%.
Copy !req
163. The doctors have told me."
Copy !req
164. And I know that the doctors
told him the exact opposite.
Copy !req
165. The wreck happened
during the negotiations.
Copy !req
166. He kept it pretty quiet
how badly he was hurt.
Copy !req
167. And, if the real story of
that wreck had come out
Copy !req
168. at that point, I don't think
he would have got a contract
Copy !req
169. from either company.
He could never again do,
Copy !req
170. physically, what he had
been able to do before,
Copy !req
171. and he didn't want
anybody to know that.
Copy !req
172. The object was to
play Vince for money,
Copy !req
173. and he did.
Copy !req
174. Only he was...
near dead when he did.
Copy !req
175. Vince signed him, and he
signed him for more money.
Copy !req
176. Vince McMahon offers Brian
a guaranteed 3-year contract,
Copy !req
177. and although Eric Bischoff
offers him more money,
Copy !req
178. his deal is subject to be
renegotiated
Copy !req
179. every three months.
Copy !req
180. Brian knew, at that point,
Copy !req
181. because of the
extent of the injury,
Copy !req
182. that if he had an out
clause in a contract that
Copy !req
183. at some point fairly early
it was gonna get exercised.
Copy !req
184. The events that have
taken place in my life,
Copy !req
185. just in the past 8 weeks have...
Copy !req
186. really changed my...
Copy !req
187. the future of my life and...
Copy !req
188. from going from a point not
knowing if I was gonna
Copy !req
189. live or not, to standing here...
Copy !req
190. signing a contract with the
World Wrestling Federation,
Copy !req
191. it's a dream come true.
Copy !req
192. What changed about Brian
coming in to our company
Copy !req
193. at that time, well, he's not
gonna be able to wrestle
Copy !req
194. to any degree, or even
comparably to what he was.
Copy !req
195. Although Brian is still
in rehabilitation
Copy !req
196. for his injuries,
Copy !req
197. he officially joins the
WWF in 1996 with the
Copy !req
198. Loose Cannon persona
already in full force.
Copy !req
199. There's Brian Pillman.
What's he doing here?
Copy !req
200. Brian Pillman,
recently signing with
Copy !req
201. the World Wrestling
Federation...
Copy !req
202. I just remember
him coming in and,
Copy !req
203. I was like, okay,
let's see what he can do.
Copy !req
204. Here in the land of,
you know, WWF.
Copy !req
205. They'll let you go out
there and push the envelope,
Copy !req
206. but you know, how strong is he?
Copy !req
207. Can he do it?
Copy !req
208. And, I would have, if I
was gonna bet on Brian,
Copy !req
209. like, oh, yeah, if he
could just get healed up,
Copy !req
210. he's gonna go right to the top.
Copy !req
211. I'm gonna rape,
pillage, and plunder
Copy !req
212. this entire federation!
Copy !req
213. When Brian came home,
he still had an IV.
Copy !req
214. And, he'd unhook
himself from the IV,
Copy !req
215. go do the show, and then
come back and
Copy !req
216. hook himself back up again.
Copy !req
217. He had to do that
because of work.
Copy !req
218. So then, it wasn't
fun for him anymore.
Copy !req
219. You know, I don't think
he enjoyed it anymore.
Copy !req
220. You know, that was
what I consider
Copy !req
221. the beginning of the end.
Copy !req
222. As Brian Pillman
continues to struggle with
Copy !req
223. his crippling injuries, an
upcoming surgery keeps him
Copy !req
224. out of any in-ring action.
Copy !req
225. To disguise this from fans,
the WWF devises a
Copy !req
226. shocking story line involving
his old tag team partner.
Copy !req
227. I needed to do something
to get some heat.
Copy !req
228. We were in Cincinnati,
in his hometown so,
Copy !req
229. it's always great to attack
somebody in their hometown,
Copy !req
230. especially him being in
a compromised position.
Copy !req
231. Steve and Brian
were still friends,
Copy !req
232. and they still wanted to
see each other succeed.
Copy !req
233. Steve was still on his way up.
Copy !req
234. So, we decided to put them
together because
Copy !req
235. we thought that...
Copy !req
236. They would enjoy it,
and at the same time,
Copy !req
237. the people would
enjoy it as well.
Copy !req
238. - And wait a minute!
- Wow!
Copy !req
239. What a cheap shot!
Copy !req
240. I laid into him and started
kicking the hell out of him.
Copy !req
241. I broke that cane on his ankle,
Copy !req
242. that brass duck he had
flew into the crowd.
Copy !req
243. - Oh!
- Oh, my god!
Copy !req
244. I stomped a mud hole in
his ass and walked...
Copy !req
245. That was a stiff beating I gave
him because it had to be.
Copy !req
246. My character was a vicious,
cold-blooded guy
Copy !req
247. who was ruthless
and remorseless.
Copy !req
248. So, had I not given him the
beating that I gave him...
Copy !req
249. who would have cared?
Copy !req
250. They cared about Brian
because I hurt his ass.
Copy !req
251. He may have re-broken
Pillman's ankle here!
Copy !req
252. He gets Brian Pillman down
and he puts a metal folding
Copy !req
253. chair around the bad ankle,
and then stomps
Copy !req
254. the seat of the chair.
Copy !req
255. Oh, my god!
Copy !req
256. And Brian screams.
Copy !req
257. "Oh, my god,
he's reinjured the ankle!"
Copy !req
258. There's a way you can do that.
Copy !req
259. I won't give away any secrets.
Copy !req
260. But that was an excuse
for Brian to have
Copy !req
261. continued problems with
the ankle, publicly,
Copy !req
262. on television.
It became, in the industry,
Copy !req
263. known as Pillman-izing
a body part.
Copy !req
264. Brian took that ass
whooping like a damn man.
Copy !req
265. He knew what I had to do and
he sold it like a million bucks.
Copy !req
266. In the midst of a TV
ratings war with WCW,
Copy !req
267. Vince strives to produce
edgier content to further
Copy !req
268. capitalize on the feud
between Pillman and Austin.
Copy !req
269. Somehow, they decided -
and I was not...
Copy !req
270. consulted on this - but
they decided that it would be
Copy !req
271. a wonderful thing if
they did a remote
Copy !req
272. from Brian Pillman's house
in Cincinnati...
Copy !req
273. We are live.
Copy !req
274. Austin is outside of
Brian Pillman's home!
Copy !req
275. Steve Austin came to
find him and stage a
Copy !req
276. home invasion on
Monday Night Raw.
Copy !req
277. Austin, trying to
get into the house...
Copy !req
278. of Brian Pillman.
Copy !req
279. I always want to do something
that feels real and gritty,
Copy !req
280. especially something that's
gonna have the,
Copy !req
281. you know, the...
Copy !req
282. the volume turned up,
the testosterone,
Copy !req
283. the adrenaline turned up.
Copy !req
284. I mean, hell, man,
if you're just casually...
Copy !req
285. If you're not a wrestling fan
and you're kind of just
Copy !req
286. flipping channels and,
all of a sudden,
Copy !req
287. you watch this
10 seconds of this scene,
Copy !req
288. you're not gonna
change the channel.
Copy !req
289. Steve is a dead man walking!
Copy !req
290. Because when Austin 3:16
meets Pillman...
Copy !req
291. - Oh, my god. Oh, my god.
- 9-millimeter Glock!
Copy !req
292. I'm gonna blast his
sorry ass straight to hell!
Copy !req
293. All of a sudden, man,
I start bashing in
Copy !req
294. that window with that
aluminum baseball bat.
Copy !req
295. - What the hell is that?
Copy !req
296. And there's Melanie in
there just shrieking...
Copy !req
297. It's Austin!
Copy !req
298. I remember, Vince was like...
Copy !req
299. "Alright, we're gonna have
Stone Cold and
Copy !req
300. y'all just wing it from there."
Copy !req
301. Don't go in there!
Don't go in there!
Copy !req
302. Nothing like that had ever
been done before in wrestling.
Copy !req
303. It was kind of groundbreaking,
Copy !req
304. whether it was in a
good way or a bad way.
Copy !req
305. People weren't ready for it.
They weren't ready for it.
Copy !req
306. The reaction was
pretty negative to it.
Copy !req
307. I mean, it was
pretty darn negative.
Copy !req
308. I didn't like it.
I didn't like the idea of like,
Copy !req
309. you know, using a gun and...
Copy !req
310. it seemed going really extreme,
Copy !req
311. but that's the
direction wrestling went.
Copy !req
312. Oh, my god!
He's back!
Copy !req
313. That's Brian, you know.
Copy !req
314. And I don't know
whose idea it was,
Copy !req
315. and how much input
he had on the idea.
Copy !req
316. He never really told me that,
Copy !req
317. but he was
absolutely really into it.
Copy !req
318. And they had to apologize
for it the next week because
Copy !req
319. the gun thing, you know,
Vince had to actually go
Copy !req
320. on television and apologize
for that angle 'cause
Copy !req
321. it got so much negativity.
Copy !req
322. And, on behalf of the
World Wrestling Federation,
Copy !req
323. for those of you
who were offended,
Copy !req
324. those viewers,
we humbly apologize...
Copy !req
325. for the incident that took place
last Monday night on Raw.
Copy !req
326. And, I think that's
the only angle
Copy !req
327. Vince ever apologized for.
Copy !req
328. join us here
at ringside...
Copy !req
329. While still recovering
from the car wreck,
Copy !req
330. Pillman is temporarily sidelined
Copy !req
331. as a broadcast announcer.
Copy !req
332. Yeah, I'm gonna cut through
all your duplicitous rhetoric
Copy !req
333. and cut right to the chase,
tell it like it is,
Copy !req
334. and hey, if the
censors don't like it,
Copy !req
335. you're gonna get fired, not me.
Copy !req
336. I'm Brian Pillman.
Copy !req
337. I'll just go somewhere else
and beat people up.
Copy !req
338. He looked at being an
announcer as a come down.
Copy !req
339. It was less than,
it's not being a man.
Copy !req
340. When I said, "Look, you
can make a great living.
Copy !req
341. You know, you can take
care of your health."
Copy !req
342. He didn't want to hear it.
Copy !req
343. Only thing he wanted to hear
was me to encourage him that
Copy !req
344. you could come back
and be what you were,
Copy !req
345. or really, really close to it.
Copy !req
346. And I, I never told him that
because I would've been lying.
Copy !req
347. You know, the competitor in
him wanted just to get
Copy !req
348. back in the ring and work.
Copy !req
349. He's working matches,
but he was in a lot of pain.
Copy !req
350. The former Cincinnati Bengal
has had
Copy !req
351. two major surgeries on his leg.
Copy !req
352. Even though he was able to
sometimes have decent matches,
Copy !req
353. just 'cause he was
smart enough to know how and
Copy !req
354. he would fall on his face,
do things that were
Copy !req
355. dangerous in a different way,
Copy !req
356. but not hurt the body
parts that were hurt,
Copy !req
357. it was really sad to watch.
Copy !req
358. You know,
he wasn't the same at all.
Copy !req
359. Brian needed to stay
medicated more often than
Copy !req
360. he should because of
the pain he was in...
Copy !req
361. because he was doing things that
Copy !req
362. he shouldn't have been doing.
Copy !req
363. Oh, no! He missed...
Oh, his ankle!
Copy !req
364. He made it through
because he'd say,
Copy !req
365. "Oh, I'm okay.
I'm good. I'm fine."
Copy !req
366. He wasn't fine.
Copy !req
367. Consistently performing
well beyond
Copy !req
368. what his body can handle,
Copy !req
369. Brian's dependency
on painkillers and
Copy !req
370. the pressure to
provide for his family
Copy !req
371. is pushing him to the
point of no return.
Copy !req
372. While rushing through recovery,
Copy !req
373. Brian Pillman hampers any
progress on his injuries
Copy !req
374. by choosing to still
perform in the ring,
Copy !req
375. which results in his pain
becoming all consuming.
Copy !req
376. The only thing Brian ever
told me was that if he had
Copy !req
377. an ache or a pain,
he took a pill.
Copy !req
378. And he said if it
didn't go away,
Copy !req
379. he took another one.
Copy !req
380. And he took a pill
until it went away.
Copy !req
381. He was sick, physically sick
with infection in his ankle
Copy !req
382. because he was
going to shows and
Copy !req
383. not recouping it properly.
Copy !req
384. I would talk to guys in WWF,
and they would tell me
Copy !req
385. how he couldn't get
through the airport,
Copy !req
386. you know what I mean?
Copy !req
387. He couldn't walk
through the airport,
Copy !req
388. and he was out there taking
bumps in the wrestling ring?
Copy !req
389. It's like, he cannot
walk through the airport.
Copy !req
390. I'd see him kind of walk
around with his suitcase,
Copy !req
391. and he wasn't moving so well.
Copy !req
392. But Brian is one of those guys,
Copy !req
393. like a man's man,
you just figure...
Copy !req
394. Whatever it is, Brian's got it.
Copy !req
395. He's Brian Pillman.
Copy !req
396. You know, and I could have seen
the writing on the wall,
Copy !req
397. but because of the
regard that I held him in,
Copy !req
398. thought he was
gonna be just fine.
Copy !req
399. When you have wrestlers
that are missing shows,
Copy !req
400. who are obviously unable to
perform when they get there,
Copy !req
401. then you know
you've got problems.
Copy !req
402. It wasn't that obvious
with Brian and,
Copy !req
403. how were you able to tell
where the Loose Cannon ended
Copy !req
404. and the real person began?
Copy !req
405. We had some problems.
We, we were having
Copy !req
406. problems 'cause
he kept wrecking rental cars.
Copy !req
407. He was definitely, like,
nodding out at the wheel.
Copy !req
408. He was definitely having issues.
Copy !req
409. He, he acted as though
he wasn't gonna
Copy !req
410. be around much longer.
Copy !req
411. He used to say things like,
"If anything happens to me,
Copy !req
412. make sure you move
back to Atlanta.
Copy !req
413. And don't stay up here if you're
not comfortable here."
Copy !req
414. And, "Make sure you
find somebody
Copy !req
415. so the kids have a father."
Copy !req
416. I'm like, "Why would you even
say something like that?"
Copy !req
417. And then, the next day,
he wrecked a rental car.
Copy !req
418. I had become a bit
estranged from him
Copy !req
419. because he was ... ed up.
Copy !req
420. And, at one time, he came to my
house and he had a big welt.
Copy !req
421. You could see the hole...
Copy !req
422. it was like a, you know,
the syringe,
Copy !req
423. it was a horse needle
syringe that went in there.
Copy !req
424. And it was growth
hormone or something.
Copy !req
425. But he was ... ed up.
Copy !req
426. He was like,
he kept repeating himself.
Copy !req
427. And I said, "This is it, Brian.
I'll give you to ten.
Copy !req
428. Get the...
out of my house.
Copy !req
429. My kids are upstairs sleeping.
Copy !req
430. Don't ever come
here in this state."
Copy !req
431. "Oh, yeah, but I gotta do...
Copy !req
432. I gotta... ah..."
Copy !req
433. I said, "No, I can't.
I'm sorry.
Copy !req
434. You're a friend, but get the
away from me right now,"
Copy !req
435. and he did.
Copy !req
436. Some of his friends
had come to me,
Copy !req
437. when I was in charge
of talent relations...
Copy !req
438. And say, that this is
becoming a bigger issue,
Copy !req
439. and I needed to intervene.
Copy !req
440. And it was gonna be tough
because he was not gonna
Copy !req
441. appreciate that intervention.
Copy !req
442. I called the agent,
lead agent, and I said,
Copy !req
443. "You know, I'm gonna
have a drug tester
Copy !req
444. there tonight to
test Pillman."
Copy !req
445. And I said,
"Make sure it gets done."
Copy !req
446. He felt like I had,
I had betrayed him.
Copy !req
447. That's what he told me.
"I can't believe you,
Copy !req
448. you, of all people,
would betray me.
Copy !req
449. And that you, you always,
you always had my back.
Copy !req
450. You were always there
for me, and now this."
Copy !req
451. I said, "Brian, I'm trying
to save your life.
Copy !req
452. That's all I'm
trying to do."
Copy !req
453. And Brian was calling me up,
"I hate Jim Ross.
Copy !req
454. Why is he singling me out?
Do you know how many guys
Copy !req
455. in this company
are doing drugs?"
Copy !req
456. And he goes, "They're not
gonna find anything on me,
Copy !req
457. nothing but my
prescription pain pills.
Copy !req
458. They're not gonna find
any illegal drugs in me."
Copy !req
459. And in fact, you know,
the only thing that they
Copy !req
460. found in him was his
prescription pain drugs and
Copy !req
461. steroids which, you know,
in extent, you know,
Copy !req
462. I don't know that that
really counts for
Copy !req
463. what they were looking for.
Copy !req
464. I had to lead Brian out of
the path that he was on,
Copy !req
465. to no avail.
I failed.
Copy !req
466. I needed to convince him
that he is so talented that
Copy !req
467. he was going to be a star in
other areas of pro wrestling.
Copy !req
468. I failed.
Copy !req
469. In October of 1997...
Copy !req
470. At the Kiel Centre
in St. Louis, Missouri,
Copy !req
471. Brian is scheduled
to compete at WWF's
Copy !req
472. Pay Per View event Badd Blood.
Copy !req
473. In those days, the call time
for talent at the
Copy !req
474. Pay Per Views was one o'clock.
Copy !req
475. And, sometimes
guys would be late,
Copy !req
476. oversleep, miss their flight...
Copy !req
477. traffic, whatever.
But, by 5 o'clock,
Copy !req
478. everybody was accounted
for accept for Brian.
Copy !req
479. And that was egregiously late
to be for a Pay Per View.
Copy !req
480. So, Bruce Prichard asked me,
I'm in talent relations,
Copy !req
481. he said, "Call, try to
find where he, you know,
Copy !req
482. where he might be.
Copy !req
483. Call the hotel where he stayed
last night in Minneapolis,
Copy !req
484. see what time
he checked out."
Copy !req
485. I get on the phone and,
boom, a guy answers.
Copy !req
486. I said, "I'm with the
World Wrestling Federation.
Copy !req
487. We're looking for
one of our wrestlers.
Copy !req
488. He stayed there last night,
Brian Pillman.
Copy !req
489. Can you tell me what
time he checked out?"
Copy !req
490. And the guy said,
"Hold on a second,"
Copy !req
491. and he put me on hold.
Copy !req
492. Okay, I guess he's
checking his records.
Copy !req
493. And he answered,
he says, "Sir?"
Copy !req
494. I said, "Yeah?"
He said, "Mr. Pillman's dead."
Copy !req
495. And, the first flash that I had,
"What is Brian doing now?"
Copy !req
496. I said, "Is this a rib?"
Copy !req
497. And the guy said, "No,
the police are here now."
Copy !req
498. I said, "Okay."
Copy !req
499. So, I told one of the
production assistants,
Copy !req
500. I said, "Go get Bruce."
Copy !req
501. And he said, "Oh, Bruce
is busy. He's doing..."
Copy !req
502. I said, "Brian is dead.
Go get Bruce."
Copy !req
503. And Bruce came in
and got on the phone,
Copy !req
504. and I just kind of
walked off because I,
Copy !req
505. I did not want to hear that...
Copy !req
506. news... right now,
23 years later,
Copy !req
507. I don't want to hear that news.
Copy !req
508. On October 5, 1997,
Copy !req
509. Brian Pillman was found dead
Copy !req
510. in his hotel room in
Bloomington, Minnesota.
Copy !req
511. He was 35 years old.
Copy !req
512. It's hard for me to
still think about it today,
Copy !req
513. and think of that heart,
of that athlete,
Copy !req
514. of that performer...
stopping.
Copy !req
515. Just doesn't seem believable.
Copy !req
516. It almost didn't register
with me because I'm like,
Copy !req
517. "Enh, Brian ain't dead."
'Cause he couldn't die.
Copy !req
518. If you knew Brian,
this force field of energy
Copy !req
519. that he was, I thought
could never be stopped.
Copy !req
520. I honestly thought that.
Copy !req
521. State police showed up
on the door and...
Copy !req
522. and said that he had to
tell me that my husband
Copy !req
523. was found deceased.
Copy !req
524. As a kid already in
the show business world,
Copy !req
525. I was thinking,
like, is this a work,
Copy !req
526. like, is he really dead?
Copy !req
527. Like, no, he's
surely coming back.
Copy !req
528. Like, I didn't even
know what to think.
Copy !req
529. I didn't even... I didn't
even cry when my dad died.
Copy !req
530. And, I just remember, like,
my family were all sitting
Copy !req
531. on the bed, like, hugging
each other and crying,
Copy !req
532. and everybody's crying.
And I'm looking around,
Copy !req
533. I'm like, where's the
camera crew, you know?
Copy !req
534. They've gotta be around
here somewhere, you know.
Copy !req
535. I was like, alright, you know,
I'll play the spot here.
Copy !req
536. You know, we'll all just
hug and pretend we're sad,
Copy !req
537. but then like, reality set in.
Copy !req
538. I'm like, oh, shit, he's
really not coming home.
Copy !req
539. Like, holy crap.
Copy !req
540. As a kid, that's just
kind of what I thought.
Copy !req
541. I figured, you know what,
he went to work that day
Copy !req
542. and he decided to stay there.
Copy !req
543. The next night on
Monday Night Raw,
Copy !req
544. the news of Brian's
death is broadcast live.
Copy !req
545. Yesterday afternoon,
Copy !req
546. Brian Pillman was found dead...
Copy !req
547. in a hotel room in
Bloomington, Minnesota.
Copy !req
548. I remember when we
tolled the bell ten times,
Copy !req
549. that was when I got emotional.
Copy !req
550. I remember, very emotional,
and that's when I was like...
Copy !req
551. He's gone, he's gone.
Copy !req
552. And then I remember talking
to, I think Jim Ross.
Copy !req
553. I said, "Hand the
phone to Owen,"
Copy !req
554. and then Owen says,
"I don't know.
Copy !req
555. I don't know what happened."
Copy !req
556. Then, Vince got on
the phone and he says,
Copy !req
557. "Do you want to, you know,
talk on camera?"
Copy !req
558. And then I just thought,
well, you know what,
Copy !req
559. with, with Brian,
the show must go on.
Copy !req
560. Joining us now,
ladies and gentlemen,
Copy !req
561. in suburban Cincinnati,
Copy !req
562. the wife of Brian Pillman,
Melanie Pillman.
Copy !req
563. Melanie, thank you so
much for joining us tonight.
Copy !req
564. I did say to Vince, "Please,
don't ask me about
Copy !req
565. drugs or anything like that
because I do not
Copy !req
566. exactly know
why he died yet."
Copy !req
567. Brian, because of his injuries,
Copy !req
568. has had to take a great
deal of prescribed medicine.
Copy !req
569. And the first thing he does is
start talking about pain pills,
Copy !req
570. and then I'm like,
that's Vince, alright.
Copy !req
571. I made like a really funny
face and I remember that's
Copy !req
572. the only clear part of that
interview I can remember
Copy !req
573. thinking, wish this mother... er
was standing here
Copy !req
574. so I could smack him.
Copy !req
575. 'Cause he swore, he swore
he wouldn't say anything like,
Copy !req
576. leading down
that direction until the
Copy !req
577. death certificate came out.
Copy !req
578. I think all athletes,
to a degree...
Copy !req
579. experience a reliance
on pain medicine,
Copy !req
580. and you know, I knew it was just
Copy !req
581. a matter of time before...
Copy !req
582. it happened to someone,
and unfortunately,
Copy !req
583. it was my husband.
Copy !req
584. And, I just want
everyone to know that...
Copy !req
585. I hope it's a wakeup call to
some of you because
Copy !req
586. it could be your husband next
or it could be you and,
Copy !req
587. you know, you don't want
to leave behind
Copy !req
588. a bunch of orphans,
like my husband did.
Copy !req
589. I absolutely despised the
grieving widow interview.
Copy !req
590. I, I didn't like it on
a wrestling program.
Copy !req
591. I was uncomfortable with it.
Copy !req
592. I didn't know why she
had to go out there and...
Copy !req
593. and have to answer
these questions that were
Copy !req
594. obviously meant to elicit
tears and etcetera
Copy !req
595. for "television", for
"good television".
Copy !req
596. I thought he should have sent
her a cheque for $100,000
Copy !req
597. and kept her ass off TV,
is what I thought.
Copy !req
598. Have you
had any opportunity
Copy !req
599. to think about what you,
Copy !req
600. now as a single parent,
Copy !req
601. will do to support your
five children?
Copy !req
602. Vince, I don't even...
Copy !req
603. really know what
day it is, you know.
Copy !req
604. So, I don't...
Copy !req
605. know what I'm gonna do.
Copy !req
606. Yeah, and everybody's like,
Copy !req
607. "Oh, that was so horrible
what you did to her!"
Copy !req
608. I barely remember it.
And it really...
Copy !req
609. I didn't really...
Copy !req
610. think about not doing it.
Copy !req
611. But, nobody
pressured me into it.
Copy !req
612. I hated it.
Copy !req
613. I didn't want to relive,
and relive,
Copy !req
614. and regurgitate, and
regurgitate this matter.
Copy !req
615. To pop a rating.
Copy !req
616. And to me, that's what
it was all about.
Copy !req
617. Um... heart disease.
Copy !req
618. And see, my father died of a
massive heart attack at 55.
Copy !req
619. We got there early before people
came in 'cause it was
Copy !req
620. supposed to be
family and friends.
Copy !req
621. And when we walked in, there
was a camera crew there.
Copy !req
622. And I walked up
to 'em and I said,
Copy !req
623. "Who are you?"
Copy !req
624. And I said, "You're not
supposed to be here."
Copy !req
625. They said, "Well, Melanie
said we can," and I said,
Copy !req
626. "Well, I'm Brian's sister and
I'm telling you, no, you can't."
Copy !req
627. And they left.
Copy !req
628. Um...
Copy !req
629. No.
Copy !req
630. Just Vince and
Jim Ross were there.
Copy !req
631. They had an open
casket, and I knew then,
Copy !req
632. this is gonna be really tough.
Copy !req
633. There's the last time I saw him.
Copy !req
634. That's the last
time I've seen Brian,
Copy !req
635. lying in a casket.
Copy !req
636. And that was just gut wrenching.
Copy !req
637. Absolutely gut wrenching.
Copy !req
638. I just stared, and I had
memories flooding back,
Copy !req
639. when I was
looking at the corpse.
Copy !req
640. I'm thinking, this shouldn't
be a part of
Copy !req
641. my pro wrestling career.
Copy !req
642. This should not be a part of my
journey in this crazy business.
Copy !req
643. And, we shouldn't be burying
a guy that's this young.
Copy !req
644. You know, that's got a
young family around him.
Copy !req
645. At the very end,
everyone's gone except for,
Copy !req
646. you know, couple family members.
Copy !req
647. And, the little girls, they're
kind of running around and
Copy !req
648. they're not, like,
crying or anything.
Copy !req
649. They were just
little kids and they go,
Copy !req
650. "We gotta say goodbye to
daddy," and they all run to
Copy !req
651. the casket, "Goodbye, daddy.
Goodbye, daddy."
Copy !req
652. It was like...
Copy !req
653. And, I think for me, I was
just in complete shock.
Copy !req
654. I just, you know, I couldn't...
Copy !req
655. I couldn't put it all together.
Copy !req
656. I just couldn't
believe it 'cause it's like,
Copy !req
657. I lost my mom and
now my dad, you know.
Copy !req
658. And I was just, I was
just a lost little girl.
Copy !req
659. Going through the motions
and pretending
Copy !req
660. I was still alive
and I had a soul.
Copy !req
661. I just felt like I just
didn't know what to do.
Copy !req
662. Right now, like,
it's the same day almost.
Copy !req
663. I mean, I can bring
myself back to
Copy !req
664. that same pain in my heart.
Copy !req
665. If I let go too long, which
I'm just gonna stop now,
Copy !req
666. if that's okay, for a second.
Copy !req
667. He had such an impact,
such an influence on so many
Copy !req
668. people's lives, it had
to have hurt
Copy !req
669. everybody to see him go.
Copy !req
670. It had to have hurt
everybody to lose him.
Copy !req
671. But, the person that
hurt the most was,
Copy !req
672. was Melanie, was my mother.
She dealt with losing...
Copy !req
673. what was ultimately
the love of her life.
Copy !req
674. After Brian is laid to rest,
Copy !req
675. his children are jolted into
their new reality.
Copy !req
676. I never really had a problem
with Melanie until
Copy !req
677. my father passed
and then, you know,
Copy !req
678. like her true character
revealed itself.
Copy !req
679. I spiraled out of control.
Copy !req
680. I wasn't the best
mother in the world.
Copy !req
681. I always loved my kids.
Copy !req
682. Up until this day,
Melanie receives royalties
Copy !req
683. from my father's legacy,
which I have seen...
Copy !req
684. zero cents.
Copy !req
685. Oh, yeah, they said
I was a gold digger, too,
Copy !req
686. and I spent all the money
I ever got on crazy stuff.
Copy !req
687. Some of it was spent on
crazy stuff, but not...
Copy !req
688. not the way they said it.
Copy !req
689. We stayed at my dad's house
for a while and then things
Copy !req
690. got really bad and we moved.
Copy !req
691. And, you know, running water
would be turned off
Copy !req
692. all the time,
electric would be turned off.
Copy !req
693. It's crazy how you go
from having a silver platter
Copy !req
694. growing up to not even
knowing when your next meal
Copy !req
695. is going to be.
Copy !req
696. It took a downward spiral.
Copy !req
697. I mean, there's no
other way to put it.
Copy !req
698. It got worse, and worse,
and worse, and worse.
Copy !req
699. Depressed a lot,
sleeping a lot,
Copy !req
700. drinking too much.
Copy !req
701. Brian found me on...
Passed out one time,
Copy !req
702. and I almost died of
alcohol poisoning.
Copy !req
703. He was like 12, and
found me on the floor
Copy !req
704. with a bottle of
vodka by my head.
Copy !req
705. No kid should have to
see something like that.
Copy !req
706. Craziness.
Copy !req
707. When my mother remarried and
my stepfather came into the
Copy !req
708. picture, there was a lot of
drug abuse on the side of them,
Copy !req
709. and there was a lot of neglect.
Copy !req
710. My stepfather was very
physically abusive
Copy !req
711. with my sister and myself.
Copy !req
712. I would be grounded to my room,
Copy !req
713. "Oh, you're grounded for the
next 6 months," you know,
Copy !req
714. "I better not see
you out of your room."
Copy !req
715. He had dogs more or less
trained to abuse me as well.
Copy !req
716. And if I was grounded, like,
these dogs would
Copy !req
717. make sure I was kept in my room.
Copy !req
718. Like, they would bark at me,
and they would bite me,
Copy !req
719. and the would physically, like,
Copy !req
720. keep me in my room because
of how I was verbally and
Copy !req
721. physically abused by
my stepdad, like,
Copy !req
722. these dogs would
adopt that mentality of,
Copy !req
723. of like attacking me.
Copy !req
724. And then I was just,
I was just so abused
Copy !req
725. that my social...
Developing, socially,
Copy !req
726. was very hard for me.
And, and that's how...
Copy !req
727. you know, like...
Copy !req
728. nobody took me out to
throw a baseball with me,
Copy !req
729. you know, like...
Copy !req
730. Nobody took me out
to throw a football,
Copy !req
731. you know, so...
I went to school.
Copy !req
732. I didn't know how
to play sports, you know.
Copy !req
733. I wasn't
very athletic, you know.
Copy !req
734. So, I couldn't catch a football,
Copy !req
735. couldn't throw a baseball.
Copy !req
736. But, I was big into games,
Copy !req
737. into video games
and stuff, and...
Copy !req
738. I had a GameCube.
Copy !req
739. Eventually,
he caught on to that.
Copy !req
740. My stepdad would
catch on to that shit.
Copy !req
741. He'd unplug it, you know,
he'd throw it against the wall.
Copy !req
742. It's like everything I ever
latched on to or loved
Copy !req
743. was taken away, you know, so...
Copy !req
744. it was hard, it was a hard time.
Copy !req
745. While Brian Jr. and Brittany
grow up with Melanie,
Copy !req
746. Danielle lives with her mother.
Copy !req
747. As the siblings drift apart,
their Aunt Linda takes action.
Copy !req
748. At least once or twice a month,
Copy !req
749. I would get them together.
Copy !req
750. And so, they didn't lose
contact with each other.
Copy !req
751. She is
literally everything.
Copy !req
752. She's, I swear, I think
that she is a true angel.
Copy !req
753. I don't have a mom, but
she's the closest thing
Copy !req
754. I have to as a mom.
I can call her at any time.
Copy !req
755. I mean, she took me in,
you know.
Copy !req
756. She bought this house so we
could have a home and a family.
Copy !req
757. And, I just,
Copy !req
758. I don't know what I
would do without her.
Copy !req
759. I really don't.
Copy !req
760. They'd all come to my house...
Copy !req
761. There's a spider
in the bathtub upstairs.
Copy !req
762. I don't kill anything, you know.
Copy !req
763. I always take 'em
outside when I find 'em.
Copy !req
764. Brian has a deadly
fear of spiders.
Copy !req
765. And there's one,
I saw it this morning,
Copy !req
766. I thought, oh,
I'll get that later.
Copy !req
767. I didn't think he'd go
up into that bathroom.
Copy !req
768. I love Linda to death.
Copy !req
769. And, she's helped
the kids a lot. And...
Copy !req
770. I just want, I just
want 'em to forgive me.
Copy !req
771. But, do I know if they will
or not, I don't know.
Copy !req
772. Brian Pillman lives on in
the hearts and minds
Copy !req
773. of his family.
Copy !req
774. But his legacy would return
to the ring in a way
Copy !req
775. no one would anticipate.
Copy !req
776. Brian Pillman's legacy in
wrestling lives on in that
Copy !req
777. he created a character that
people still remember to
Copy !req
778. this day because it was
in large part himself.
Copy !req
779. He was a guy that
overcame a lot of odds,
Copy !req
780. and totally kicked ass in an
industry of guys that
Copy !req
781. were much, you know,
larger than him.
Copy !req
782. I would have loved to see
what the next 10 years would
Copy !req
783. have played out for him
had he never had
Copy !req
784. that damn car wreck.
Copy !req
785. He knew the hand
that he was dealt
Copy !req
786. after the accident.
Copy !req
787. There wasn't a damn
thing he could do about it,
Copy !req
788. which killed him.
Copy !req
789. Figuratively, and I
think eventually, literally.
Copy !req
790. Brian's death started a
domino effect that
Copy !req
791. forced people to recognize
the steroid issue,
Copy !req
792. but put extra focus
on the real cause
Copy !req
793. of people dying too young,
which is pills.
Copy !req
794. The only hurdle he couldn't
get across was the last one
Copy !req
795. and, it was his own body
that had betrayed him.
Copy !req
796. The biggest legacy though,
unfortunately,
Copy !req
797. is what would have been,
where he would have gone,
Copy !req
798. what heights he
would have achieved,
Copy !req
799. how much bigger and
better he would have gotten.
Copy !req
800. He saw the end goal.
Copy !req
801. Like, he was so close
to like really just like
Copy !req
802. completely making it, you know.
Copy !req
803. Like, in wrestling.
Copy !req
804. Would he have been along
with The Rock and Steve Austin
Copy !req
805. and a few other guys,
the biggest star
Copy !req
806. in wrestling, 5 years later?
Copy !req
807. Probably. One of 'em.
Copy !req
808. Just rebuilding my
relationship with my kids.
Copy !req
809. Having my, you know,
kids not be mad at me...
Copy !req
810. by the time I die.
We'll see if that happens.
Copy !req
811. You know, my dad's not here so,
Copy !req
812. if I got one parent
left that I can go,
Copy !req
813. oh, well, you know,
that's my mom,
Copy !req
814. that's just the way she is,
you know, like, sure,
Copy !req
815. I could live the
rest of my life hating her,
Copy !req
816. but where does that get me?
Copy !req
817. Ever since I've rekindled
my relationship with her,
Copy !req
818. I've been happier
in my personal life,
Copy !req
819. I've been better in my
relationships with women.
Copy !req
820. I've been more understanding
of people's plights
Copy !req
821. and people's vices.
Copy !req
822. I've been just a much
more mature adult in general
Copy !req
823. since I've buried the
hatchet with my mother,
Copy !req
824. so to speak.
Copy !req
825. And in many ways, I'm very
happy that I have a parent
Copy !req
826. left on this earth to, to speak
to and talk to, you know.
Copy !req
827. I called Mel a time or
two and then
Copy !req
828. we just lost contact and...
Copy !req
829. then I reached out to, you know,
Copy !req
830. Brian Jr. a
couple years ago,
Copy !req
831. I had one of Brian's
old weight lifting belts.
Copy !req
832. Out of nowhere, a sign from
the wrestling gods comes in
Copy !req
833. the form of a cellphone call
from Stone Cold Steve Austin
Copy !req
834. to tell me that he has a
Cardillo weight lifting belt...
Copy !req
835. that belonged to my father
and that he wants to
Copy !req
836. mail it to me and give it to me.
Copy !req
837. And I'm like, you know what,
if that's a sign,
Copy !req
838. that's a sign.
Copy !req
839. Brian!
Copy !req
840. When he first said
he was gonna wrestle,
Copy !req
841. like, it struck
terror in my heart.
Copy !req
842. I was like, oh, my god,
he'll have fractured
Copy !req
843. relationships, his kids
won't get the attention,
Copy !req
844. he's gonna travel all the time,
Copy !req
845. he's not gonna be able...
Copy !req
846. And then, I saw him perform,
and I saw the look on
Copy !req
847. his face when he knew
that he was creating,
Copy !req
848. you know, homage to his dad.
Copy !req
849. And, I realized, this is it.
Copy !req
850. This is what's
supposed to happen.
Copy !req
851. He just woke up one day and
he was gonna be a wrestler.
Copy !req
852. And I, I literally laughed.
I'm like, "You? A wrestler?
Copy !req
853. All you do is sit in your
room and play video games.
Copy !req
854. There's no way that
you're gonna be a wrestler."
Copy !req
855. And it was just crazy, like,
he was determined and
Copy !req
856. he quit his job, he had just
graduated college and...
Copy !req
857. he was, he was gonna do it.
Copy !req
858. And I was very hesitant
at first just because of
Copy !req
859. everything my dad went
through and I didn't want
Copy !req
860. my brother to fall into
that same lifestyle,
Copy !req
861. so I was scared.
Copy !req
862. by Pillman, oh-ho-ho!
Copy !req
863. I think he'd be proud of him.
Copy !req
864. His son wants to carry
on the Pillman name.
Copy !req
865. He wants to make his
father proud of him.
Copy !req
866. He wants to accomplish
something on his own,
Copy !req
867. but yet pay tribute to his dad.
Copy !req
868. I think Brian
would be into that.
Copy !req
869. I just think he might be
worried that, that...
Copy !req
870. Brian Jr.'s in it
all by himself.
Copy !req
871. He's got some people
looking out for him,
Copy !req
872. but I, I think Brian Sr.
Would a whole lot rather
Copy !req
873. be there to keep an eye on him.
Copy !req
874. Great kid, looks a
lot like his dad.
Copy !req
875. And I talk to him
about these things.
Copy !req
876. There's a lot
of great traits, Brian,
Copy !req
877. that your dad had,
that I hope to god you,
Copy !req
878. you can acquire.
Copy !req
879. And then there are some...
Copy !req
880. not so much.
Copy !req
881. You have to learn
where you draw the line.
Copy !req
882. Use his passion,
use his intellect,
Copy !req
883. use his athletic ability,
use his love of the game.
Copy !req
884. But then, don't get too
far off the beaten path.
Copy !req
885. Don't be a Loose Cannon,
Brian Jr.,
Copy !req
886. don't be a Loose Cannon.
Copy !req
887. The Varsity Blondes!
Copy !req
888. You know, a lot of people,
"Oh, you know,
Copy !req
889. do you think your dad
would want you to wrestle?"
Copy !req
890. And it's like, "Well,
he kind of put his stamp
Copy !req
891. of approval on me to be a
wrestler when he named me
Copy !req
892. Brian Pillman," you know.
Copy !req
893. There's really no going
back at this point so...
Copy !req
894. no, it's just tragic
to know that we never,
Copy !req
895. we never got to have
that ultimate
Copy !req
896. father-son relationship.
But, but in a way, it...
Copy !req
897. it inspires me to, to be
a good father one day,
Copy !req
898. you know, so...
Copy !req
899. I think, I think that's
my goal in all of this,
Copy !req
900. through wrestling
and everything,
Copy !req
901. is to be a father, so...
Copy !req
902. You know, that photo is very...
Copy !req
903. very symbolic to me, you know.
Copy !req
904. He's kind of holding me up and,
Copy !req
905. and I always look at
it for inspiration,
Copy !req
906. you know, so...
Copy !req
907. I hope that one day I
would have a son like that,
Copy !req
908. you know, to kind
of hold up as...
Copy !req
909. as the future, you know.
Copy !req
910. It's like he's kind of
giving me his blessing there
Copy !req
911. in that photo so... yeah.
Copy !req
912. He contributed a whole lot
to the wrestling business.
Copy !req
913. He pushed the envelope.
Copy !req
914. The Loose Cannon gimmick
Copy !req
915. is one of the best
ones ever created.
Copy !req
916. And, Brian was one of the
best friends that I had
Copy !req
917. in the business.
Copy !req
918. And, I hope that he
thought the same about me.
Copy !req
919. I love Brian.
Copy !req
