1. This is Samantha Fiddler.

2. Samantha's been missing for five years now,

3. and I don't know if Teddy Hart did something to her

4. or if he has information about where she is,

5. but to understand how this all happened,

6. we have to go back to 2012.

7. Ten years ago, the recipe for a good reality show

8. was you needed to have one crazy character.

9. It's the rebirth, third generation Hart.

10. The angel of death.

11. So, when I met Teddy, I was like, this is it,

12. this is Mr. Crazy.

13. He's a pro wrestler, and his side hustle is

14. breeding, selling, and training Persian show cats.

15. I thought this was gonna be the next big hit reality show.

16. My wife's not jealous,

17. and she allows other women to exist in my world.

18. When Teddy introduced me to Michelle,

19. he told me that this was his girlfriend,

20. and that they were in a polyamorous relationship

21. with Teddy and Fay, his wife.

22. I like Fay genuinely, and I love Teddy.

23. Together, we're awesome.

24. You are living the life, Teddy Hart.

25. Well, if it gets picked up for some sort of cable TV show,

26. then it's worth it, I guess.

27. And the next thing I know, I have a text message saying,

28. "Read the paper."

29. Teddy's being accused of rape and illegal confinement.

30. The two women charging Teddy were Michelle and Fay.

31. Actual, physical violence.

32. He choked me out several times.

33. He'd straight keep us hostage.

34. I'm not sure what's real and what's not anymore.

35. Rarely you see Teddy Hart scared.

36. Teddy is on the run in the States,

37. and he introduces me to his new girlfriend, Machiko.

38. I see a picture of him on the Internet saying,

39. "Teddy Hart wanted for sexual assault."

40. But I don't believe it.

41. I agreed to film with Teddy so long as

42. he would turn himself in to the police and face the music.

43. Teddy's arrested, Machiko is being deported,

44. and Mr. Money is being deported too.

45. We've got a serious fucking court battle, guys.

46. I didn't do it.

47. Uh...

48. That... That was one of the happier things that I filmed.

49. I had a plan, and the plan was to get Teddy to the airport

50. so he could get arrested and face justice,

51. and I had achieved my plan.

52. At this point in time, Teddy's in a lot of trouble.

53. He's facing charges of sexual assault, assault,

54. illegal confinement.

55. He could be facing 20 years in jail for this.

56. I thought I'd really never see him again.

57. Once he goes to jail, that's it, I don't see Teddy again.

58. So, when I get a call from Teddy two days later,

59. saying he's getting out, I was pretty damn surprised.

60. Some guy named Bill bailed him out,

61. and Teddy is a free man until the court date.

62. It was brutal, dude.

63. It was really, really fucking brutal.

64. This jacket saved me.

65. The amount of respect the Hart name has in Alberta

66. was fucking tremendous, dude.

67. They gave me this bag full of oranges to use as a pillow.

68. Every guy kept making sure I was comfortable, always very polite,

69. the guards were super nice, just slow as shit.

70. That place is so disorganized.

71. I'm a little more pissed off at Fay and Michelle again,

72. after them putting me through this.

91. it was getting toxic,

92. where we're just around each other for nine months straight,

93. and her respect level for me is so low,

94. because she just sees basically a guy that

95. wants to do other things, not be stuck marrying to her.

100. After Teddy's bailed out,

101. obviously he can't go back to the mansion

102. he's living at with Fay and Michelle,

103. so he winds up going to stay with Bill at his house,

104. in a community called Edson,

105. where Bill is living with his son.

106. Teddy told me he met Bill through family friends.

107. No, look at the camera, look at that camera, it's a Canon.

108. Look... look at the Canon.

109. Bill is a weird guy.

110. I didn't know what to make of him.

111. Pull it off, pull it over.

113. It's got a wheelie part,

114. it's all set up for that kinda shit.

115. Teddy is being steadfast in his innocence,

116. and that he's going to find redemption,

117. and redemption starts now.

119. I had told Teddy that if he turned himself in

120. to face his charges, I would continue filming him.

121. Now I was stuck upholding my part of the deal.

122. But at the same time,

123. I was under the impression he was gonna face justice

124. eventually, so maybe this was like the final chapter

125. in this documentary.

126. Fay decided she wanted to control me

127. and charge me for the exact same crime I'm being...

128. Hard to believe that broke like that, really.

129. You know what, I did not expect it to break... Ah!

130. Oh, my God.

131. You got one phone call in jail.

132. My memory's not very good.

133. The only number I remembered was Bill Kazolea's.

134. You know how many times I met him?

135. Twice in my life.

136. So, I called him up

137. and you get that two-minute recording, right?

138. Oh, my God, we're all gonna die!

139. You broke it again!

140. One of the most generous guys in the world.

141. He was a good friend of my grandfather's,

142. and his mother wrestled for my grandfather.

143. And he's got a lot of faith in the Hart name

144. and my potential and my ability.

145. Teddy called me up when he was in Texas,

146. and he explained to me exactly what happened,

147. that he left the country and these girls lied on him,

148. and now he can't get back in the country.

149. And he needed me to get his cats,

150. or I was his best option to go and save the cats.

151. The house was being rundown, he wasn't there,

152. the cat smell was everywhere,

153. and it just had to be helped,

154. and I was the one that was assigned to help, and I did.

155. And we went and got 'em all, and then it destroyed our house.

156. Anyone, including Fay and Michelle,

157. that are watching this sometime,

158. you guys can understand you've taken everything I have away,

159. - and I'm still smiling. - Whoa!

160. See, now, that's good karma.

161. I've been trying to wonder, like,

162. what my life is like when I come back to losing my house

163. and my cars and my credit and my money.

164. My bank accounts were shut down, everything I have, basically.

165. You really notice...

166. you really do understand the importance

167. of Fay being a provider and helping me out.

168. But that's also the thing of trust.

169. When you trust someone and you have the joint bank account

170. with them, you hope to God they remember

171. Mr. Black's made almost 200 kittens,

172. and you guys didn't pay taxes once,

173. and the Blacks did all the work,

174. and my cats were actually a business that I had,

175. and you shut my business down and left me fucking nothing.

176. He's not a good man.

177. He's one of the worst men on the planet.

178. He doesn't have a job, he's never worked in his life.

179. He extorts everybody for everything he has.

180. The last five years, I've been his only source of income.

181. I mean, for years he's been targeting women,

182. girls, with drug addiction.

183. Escorts, strippers,

184. wealthy cougars, you know.

185. Anybody that has... rich men, too.

186. He'll use the girls to bait the men.

187. That's what he does.

188. He's so well-thought-out and planned,

189. he uses every person around him.

190. They're just pawns to him,

191. and he'll just use this to bait this to get this to take that.

192. Justice will be served in one way or another.

193. Teddy is given a court date in May of 2016,

194. and for the next 10 months he's a free man.

195. He's allowed to travel and wrestle,

196. and pretty much continue on with his life.

197. A week after Teddy is released from jail,

198. he invited me to come film with him and his family, so I did.

199. Ah, George's wings, George's wings.

200. I ran down, her husband came running out of the garage,

201. and she turned her back and ran with the wings into the house.

202. A little hot though.

204. I'm B.J. Annis, Ted's dad.

205. Do I have to admit to that?

206. We didn't wanna put the burgers on too soon,

207. we didn't want them to be overcooked.

208. So, we were just gonna wait till you guys get her,

209. and have a glass of iced tea or something, then we'll...

210. Ted was a very smart kid in school,

211. and really a phenomenal athlete.

212. Every sport he tried, he was good in.

213. Ted was better with wrestling than maybe other social skills.

214. He loves, absolutely loves animals,

215. and he's good with children,

216. but he's not so good with adults and authority.

217. You think you can eat two?

218. No, no, can you eat two?

219. Okay.

220. You know, Ted, in some ways, is a very private person,

221. and he has dealt with a lot of loss.

222. We have two daughters, and then the two sons,

223. and Matthew and Ted shared a bedroom.

224. I think it took a toll on Ted when Matthew passed away.

225. You know, he got the flesh-eating disease.

226. Ted was about 15, 16.

227. Matthew didn't feel well,

228. so I took him to the children's hospital,

229. and they were doing some examinations,

230. they couldn't figure out what it was.

231. The test back then for the flesh-eating virus

232. was a 48-hour test.

233. I think it's a four-hour test now.

234. Well, in that 48 hours,

235. it broke through his brain barrier

236. and went through his whole system.

237. None of us knew, you know, what the outcome was gonna be.

238. We all thought Matt was gonna pull through.

239. Yeah, Ted took it very hard.

240. Probably never really dealt with it.

241. You know, I think he closed it off in his mind,

242. and maybe when he's alone he thinks about it,

243. but I know sometimes he would say, "It should have been me."

244. You know, "It shouldn't have been Matt,"

245. because Matt was just a perfect kid.

246. Maybe I have lost everything for a reason.

247. Because I'm trying to find justification

248. in why I've lost everything I fucking have right now,

249. where I don't have a house, why I can't...

250. why I'm sitting in jail, why Michelle and Fay,

251. before I left...

252. Ted and his behavior has...

253. he's been his own worst enemy.

254. I'm so heartbroken that, uh...

255. that his career didn't work out.

256. You know, he had 147 IQ, he's the smartest guy in the room,

257. and you'd have a hard time getting through to him.

258. And then he had all sorts of sociological problems

259. because of his trauma in childhood.

260. We kinda lost Ted when we lost Matt.

261. Yeah, my whole position is,

262. and I know everybody that's involved,

263. and personally, I like everyone.

264. I think it's unfortunate that the girls are doing this to you,

265. but I know their motivation is...

266. they want to detach themselves from you.

267. Well, they've done that.

268. For you to go on,

269. it's gonna cost you a lot of money in legal fees.

270. You know, you're probably gonna lose,

271. and you're gonna expose yourselves.

272. They're gonna get charged for mischief,

273. and slandering my name for absolutely nothing.

274. Okay, what should my take on this be?

275. I've met Teddy's parents a few times,

276. and I think they're absolutely delightful people.

277. I think his dad is just someone who really cares

278. about his son and wants him to get his career back together,

279. and his mom is the most wonderful person.

280. It's almost insane to think about them being related.

281. Teddy Hart's lovely parents

282. absolutely believe in the innocence of their son,

283. and they appear to love him so much,

284. it was a weird thing to be there with them all.

285. I have lost the capacity to understand

286. what about this is true and what's false.

287. I wonder how the courts will deal with this.

288. I'm not sure making this project

289. is maybe the most morally good thing to do.

290. I'm not sure it is,

291. but somebody's gotta tell this story,

292. and we've been working on it so long,

293. we just have to keep filming.

294. We don't have a choice anymore.

295. I don't know where this story might end up,

296. but there's a chance...

297. there's a chance this story might end up with some people dead,

298. and at least somebody will be there to explain what happened.

299. I filmed this interview with myself July 28th, 2015...

300. four months before I met Samantha Fiddler.

301. It is really eerie I'm saying these things,

302. because she's now missing and presumed dead.

303. I feel very strongly about getting to the bottom of this

304. and finding some answers

305. about what happened to Samantha Fiddler.

306. I know that Teddy knows something,

307. and I suppose I'm the right person to do that.

308. I need to figure out if Teddy Hart had something to do

309. with Samantha Fiddler going missing.

310. Teddy's been on bail for a while

311. and he gives me a ring outta nowhere,

312. and he's like, "Hey, man, I've got this new girlfriend,

313. she's awesome, you should come interview her."

314. And I'm not sure if I should do that at this point in time,

315. because he doesn't really have a good reputation around women.

316. But of course, I say yes.

317. And this is when I finally meet Samantha Fiddler.

318. She shows up at my office with Teddy and her three kids.

319. No, don't touch.

320. So, to start this, I'll get you to spell

321. your first and last name for me.

322. Okay, it's Samantha Fiddler,

323. S-a-m-a-n-t-h-a F-i-d-d-l-e-r.

324. Okay, so how did you meet Teddy Hart, you know,

325. and what is your guys' status?

326. He's... yeah, like he said,

327. I've always been a fan of wrestling

328. and always been a fan of the Hart family.

329. Yeah, met Teddy by fluke,

330. and it was actually Bill that...

331. Is there any way I could just see your face a little bit more?

332. Just a... yeah, that's perfect.

333. - There, is that better? - Yeah, that's way better.

334. Okay.

335. Yeah, no, it was just...

336. I met Teddy and Bill one night and they were interesting,

337. and I don't mind interesting.

338. So, you know, colorful clothes

339. and a guy who dresses like he's some safari man.

340. So, Teddy, where did you guys meet?

341. I've known this girl for years through a friend of mind,

342. and she was nice enough to come down

343. and see about the job taking care of Bill's son as a nanny.

344. She said, "Maybe I can help take care of your son

345. "while you help Teddy Hart get on with his career.

346. "I've known about him and I'm a fan of his,

347. "I used to watch him wrestle, and is there any chance

348. that I could do some MMA stuff or some wrestling stuff?"

349. And Bill said, "You would be awesome for our school,

350. why don't we make a deal?"

351. She opened her house to us, and she's been with me ever since.

352. It would be years later that I find out

353. Samantha never applied to be the nanny to Bill's son.

354. Teddy told me that Samantha applied to be your son's nanny.

355. Yeah, that obviously did not happen.

356. When I met her, she was a dancer.

357. I just remember going in and she just stood out.

358. It was, like, amazing, how she stood out.

359. Teddy was good at talking, so they started talking,

360. and the energy was so right between us three,

361. and she needed help.

362. It's like we were her saviors.

363. We were together from that point on.

364. Can I ask, is there anything more

365. than just teacher-student between you and Sam?

366. Yeah, absolutely, I am seeing her on a more serious level.

367. I have to say the best connection I've had with a female in my life.

368. So, I didn't know he started helping take care of three kids.

369. So, he's a good father figure or what?

370. Yeah, yeah, he's great with the girls.

371. It's kind of funny, because it's Teddy.

372. "Absolutely not, nope, not for me, not for me."

373. But it's very much for him, so...

374. and he's great with the girls.

375. Don't go in front of the camera like that.

376. How do you feel about spending time with,

377. being intimate with, working in a mentor-student relationship

378. with somebody who has these crazy federal charges against him?

379. I just don't think that they're...

380. I know that they're bullshit.

381. How do you know that?

382. You know.

383. You know, like, as a woman, you just...

384. you've got this radar with certain men,

385. and you don't wanna go anywhere near them

386. if they have that type of vibe to them, right,

387. whereas Teddy's nothing like that.

388. Teddy Hart was always trying to stage a comeback into wrestling,

389. and this meeting Samantha and having these kids around

390. probably helped him look redeemable.

391. I mean, I'm not gonna lie... part of me...

392. part of me was kind of believing it a bit,

393. that maybe a corner had been turned here.

394. This felt like the real deal,

395. but this interview was filmed

396. one year before Samantha Fiddler went missing.

401. Let's go back to the beginning.

402. When exactly did you meet Teddy Hart?

403. The first time that I met Teddy was in 2015,

404. when Samantha brought Teddy to my parent's house.

405. I looked Teddy Hart up on the Internet,

406. and it's not really hard to find anything that's not good.

407. I mean, this is not a good guy.

408. I talked to my sister about it.

409. She got a little defensive.

410. "They're the big Hart family.

411. "These are big-time people, this is what I wanna do.

412. I wanna do something like this."

413. And I'm like, okay, just be careful.

414. This was a picture of me and her at the beach.

415. Her biggest dream was to see the ocean.

416. Everything about swimming was...

417. that's just how she got her stress out.

418. We lived with a lot of rules growing up.

419. We were raised as Jehovah's Witnesses in Flin Flon, Manitoba.

420. We weren't allowed to swear,

421. we weren't allowed to hang out with people who were in our schools,

422. only other Jehovah's Witnesses.

423. No birthdays, no holidays, anything like that.

424. Samantha was the wild child.

425. She didn't like to live by the rules.

426. She liked her own rules, and she didn't like being told what to do.

427. So, she did get in a lot of trouble,

428. but she put me on a pedestal.

429. She didn't want me to feel how she did.

430. She was a... I called her my guardian,

431. because that was who she was.

432. She was like a mom to me, too.

433. This picture was with Jayme

434. when Samantha went with Jayme to the Metallica concert.

435. Sam and I were best friends.

436. The one thing that always bothered her

437. was that she was raised that strict Jehovah's Witness,

438. that her family didn't really celebrate Sam's ancestral roots.

439. She made it very clear that she was Native.

440. She made it very clear that she was Cree.

441. Sam came from very controlling relationships,

442. whether it be her family life or her personal relationships.

443. She was 16, and she met this guy,

444. and this guy was 27.

445. She's like, "I'm totally in love, and he's older."

446. But because my parents didn't want her to sin

447. or get kicked out of the religion, she...

448. they recommended her get married.

449. It didn't last long.

450. Samantha got outta there pretty much when it started.

451. Like, their honeymoon night was when was the first he hit her.

452. After that relationship,

453. she had decided that she was not going to take part in the church.

454. She was then...

455. it's considered "banished," I guess they called it.

456. Samantha wasn't allowed moving back in with us

457. because she was now kicked out of the religion.

458. So, she had to live and figure it out on her own.

459. Ever since then I don't think that Samantha got into

460. a relationship that a man valued her the way that she did deserve.

461. - Water? - Thank you.

462. Whew.

463. Samantha and Ted are kind of working together at this point in time.

464. Samantha wants to get ready

465. to enter into the pro wrestling world,

466. and at the same time, Teddy's trying to redeem his career, make a big comeback.

467. I noticed a lot of physical changes in Samantha over this period.

468. One, she did get in really good shape.

469. She was really fit.

470. Then also, her breasts were augmented and became much larger.

471. Good.

472. She said that this is about appearance.

473. You know, in order to be a wrestler, I have to look good.

474. I can't look fat, you know?

475. And I remember Teddy mentioning she was really fat.

476. She wasn't very good-looking,

477. so I had to make her really, really good-looking.

478. Me and Teddy were kinda gonna be partners

479. and bring her into the wrestling.

480. Teddy believes that she will be a great wrestler,

481. and so did I.

482. So, getting the boob job just seemed like part of that path.

483. I could afford it, to put it on my credit, and so I did.

484. I worked on the hope that we would make money together.

485. Did you guys really think you could monetize her

486. as an MMA fighter, a mother of three with a new boob job?

487. This doesn't... I mean, I'm not...

488. It totally felt like we could monetize her.

489. It totally...

490. I was just playing along with the whole thing.

491. Like, I had no idea where I was going,

492. I just wanted to help people.

493. I just wanted to help.

494. Oh, before we roll, could I get a cup of water, just...

499. My name's Omar Mouallem, I'm a writer and journalist.

500. I first got to know Teddy

501. through an assignment with "Rolling Stone."

502. It was a profile of him, because he was trying

503. to stage a comeback in professional wrestling.

504. I'd never heard of Teddy Hart until you told me about Teddy Hart,

505. because we were neighbors.

506. We were living in the same condo building,

507. and we became friends,

508. and he told me about this project about Teddy Hart.

509. At the time, Teddy had been accused of sexual assault

510. and unlawful confinement, maybe a couple of other charges.

511. These stemmed from two women that he lived with, Fay and Michelle.

512. I pitched "Rolling Stone" on the story.

513. The idea of Teddy Hart trying to make his umpteenth comeback,

514. but this time maybe a having a shot at it.

515. "Rolling Stone" really wanted me to do the story.

516. Teddy obviously was more than happy to be profiled.

517. I first met him in November 2015.

518. Hey. Teddy?

519. - Hi, Omar, how are you? - Hey, nice to meet you.

520. He arrived with Samantha and her three kids.

521. He started by talking about how he was training Samantha,

522. that she was his MMA/wrestling student,

523. and it became very apparent quickly that they were also dating.

524. Throughout the entire interview, he kept talking about,

525. like, he loves being with these kids,

526. he loves teaching them things.

527. It was like he was a father to them.

528. Samantha seemed like someone who got pulled into his orbit.

529. I could see that she was under the influence of this wrestler.

530. Dating one of the Hart family members,

531. being now part of a documentary, she was kinda starry-eyed.

532. She thought that Teddy was gonna be the ticket to her dreams,

533. and that she was invested in him

534. to get her where she wants to be.

535. Teddy Hart!

536. Teddy, Teddy, Teddy!

537. The next time I see Teddy, he's wrestling at a Hart legacy show,

538. and Samantha is his wrestling valet.

539. So, this is where Samantha would go out to the ring

540. and accompany Teddy, maybe hold the cat for him.

541. In a sense, it's kind of like arm candy, and quite frankly,

542. it's one of the initial ways to get involved in wrestling.

543. Samantha's kids were there, and Teddy is great with them.

544. It was sort of seeming like Teddy's

545. becoming a father figure to them.

546. Teddy Hart had done a total 180

547. from what I'd previously experienced.

548. He had a more wholesome image than the pimp-drug dealer.

549. He was a little bit, you know, Teddy the family guy.

550. Now when I look back at it,

551. I realize that he was using her, big time.

552. Look at where he was at that point,

553. his reputation was very, very tarnished.

554. He had these horrendous charges at him

555. that he was trying to beat,

556. and here comes this small-town girl who's very sweet,

557. and she has little kids.

558. I think that he was kind of using them like props,

559. the way that he uses Persian cats as props.

560. It was a very convenient thing for him to do at that time,

561. because it showed a character transformation that he had made.

562. Yes, here he lived this life of debauchery

563. with these two women in this mansion, but look at me now.

564. Should we have seen something?

565. Should we have... like, you're just saying,

566. like, you're noticing these things,

567. and it's like he's not the person he says he is,

568. there's kids involved.

569. It's an interesting thing, it's very layered.

570. I think that you and I, as storytellers,

571. were kind of naïve to think that

572. there were not bigger consequences for his behavior,

573. for the life that he sort of led,

574. and that he led other people into.

575. I was doing things that I knew were wrong,

576. but felt made for some compelling content.

577. What were your honest thoughts?

578. I didn't judge you for it,

579. because I felt like I was doing the same thing.

580. I mean, I wanted to write for "Rolling Stone,"

581. and here I found a story that was big enough for "Rolling Stone."

582. I knew that this article, which was well-received,

583. went viral, helped rejuvenate his career.

584. Teddy Hart!

585. He was able to use it to elevate himself

586. and promote himself back into

587. some professional wrestling associations.

588. The article created this newfound cult following

589. amongst people who had never heard of him,

590. and suddenly he was the coolest pro-am wrestler there was.

591. I regret that.

592. Maybe in some way,

593. this contributed to her disappearance.

594. What a body kit, though.

595. Yeah, I like it.

596. Teddy gives me a call, and he says,

597. "Hey, Fred, you should come film us

598. picking up this brand-new $100,000 Jaguar."

599. I was kinda like, "No, come on."

600. And I showed up, and sure enough, he wasn't lying.

602. Thank you.

603. And the vehicle's just pulled out front.

604. - You're the man, dude. - No troubles.

605. - My camera crew. - Oh, of course.

606. - Take care. - Oh, cool.

607. Teddy always had fancy cars,

608. and it was very confusing to me.

609. I could never really figure out how he could afford them.

610. Samantha needed a vehicle all of a sudden.

611. My chauffer.

612. So, I gave the Jag to Samantha.

613. I made the down-payment of $3,000,

614. but it was in my name and in Samantha's name.

615. She was the one who was supposed to be responsible,

616. particularly, for the payments,

617. but Teddy was supposed to help out.

618. Still landed on my feet, guys.

619. I don't know how it happened.

620. I lost a Jag to get a new one,

621. and I lost two girls that were complaining

622. about working for a girl that's happy to work

623. and wrestle and do MMA.

624. I expected that we would be starting to make money off her

625. and Teddy when they start wrestling.
