1. A woman
who jumped from the roofCopy !req
2. of a multi-story building
in Camberwell yesterdayCopy !req
3. has been pronounced dead.Copy !req
4. Okay, I found a place.Copy !req
5. Five-star, swanky, the whole thing.Copy !req
6. And I've never been to Spain before, so...Copy !req
7. - Portugal.
- Hmm?Copy !req
8. Sagres is in Portugal, babe.Copy !req
9. Okay, who cares? Look, it looks so nice.Copy !req
10. - And you know all about looking nice.
- Hey, now I've got hat hair.Copy !req
11. Yeah, I like it like that.Copy !req
12. Here, try this.Copy !req
13. - What is it?
- My new creation.Copy !req
14. It's focus group today, so...Copy !req
15. Oh, sneak preview. Lucky me.Copy !req
16. - Mmm. Yeah.
- Mm-hmm?Copy !req
17. - Yeah?
- It's great.Copy !req
18. - What is it?
- It's miso jam.Copy !req
19. Hmm?Copy !req
20. - Miso jam.
- You so what?Copy !req
21. - Oh, you are such a dick.
- You so pretty.Copy !req
22. You so tasty.Copy !req
23. And miso want a holiday.Copy !req
24. Okay.Copy !req
25. People may say that they're not ready
for those textures in biscuits,Copy !req
26. but our taste tests
have rated off the charts, so...Copy !req
27. - Ah, ah! That's my almond milk.
- I was only gonna have a bit.Copy !req
28. - But you can have any milk.
- Well—Copy !req
29. - That's the only vegan one.
- Oh my God. You serious?Copy !req
30. - Okay.
- Milk fascist. Okay, I'll have some...Copy !req
31. Ow!Copy !req
32. - Maria, we're ready in here.
- My kidneys!Copy !req
33. - Yeah?
- Yeah.Copy !req
34. Guys, sorry.
I'm gonna have to wrap up on this.Copy !req
35. Looking like a regular Hucklebuck.Copy !req
36. Yes, boss.
Made just like you said.Copy !req
37. - Oh, no nuts in the nougat, right?
- Nah. Just sugar and egg whites.Copy !req
38. Okay, good.Copy !req
39. 'Cause my EpiPen is way over there,
and I can't be arsed to run.Copy !req
40. I think you've done it again.Copy !req
41. It's another of your mental ideas
that, annoyingly, really works.Copy !req
42. Okay. Got my guinea pigs at reception.
All set?Copy !req
43. Yeah. Wanna try one?Copy !req
44. Come on in.
Take a seat around the table, please.Copy !req
45. Hi.Copy !req
46. Okay.Copy !req
47. They're amazing, but think about...Copy !req
48. First thing I'm...Copy !req
49. Guys, Captain Jack Sparrow at the end.Copy !req
50. - What?
- That guy. Look at him.Copy !req
51. - That's nice.
- Yeah.Copy !req
52. Thank you.Copy !req
53. - Anyone want a coffee?
- Oh, yeah.Copy !req
54. - Can I get a double espresso, please?
- Black for me.Copy !req
55. Can I get a latte?Copy !req
56. Okay, well,
thank you all so much for being here.Copy !req
57. Um, I'm Camille.
I'll be running today's session.Copy !req
58. Hi. Sorry, is this the right room
for the tasting thing?Copy !req
59. Oh.Copy !req
60. Oh, sorry, I don't think you're in today.Copy !req
61. - Is that...
- Oh.Copy !req
62. No, it can't be.Copy !req
63. Uh, I should be on your list.
Verity Greene.Copy !req
64. - Christ, that is her. Verity Greene.
- Hang on.Copy !req
65. Oh yes, you are down here.Copy !req
66. Um, come on through.
We haven't got going yet.Copy !req
67. - Sorry.
- You know her?Copy !req
68. - I'll grab my seat...
- Yeah, she went to my school.Copy !req
69. - Sorry, so sorry.
- Oh no, no bother.Copy !req
70. - Hey.
- Well, that's a makeover she's had.Copy !req
71. - Oh yeah?
- Okay.Copy !req
72. Guys, time to dig in.Copy !req
73. Our head of flavor has dreamt up
a fresh take on our famous Hucklebuck,Copy !req
74. and you lucky people get to try it first.Copy !req
75. So have a taste,Copy !req
76. and let's talk about
how it makes you feel.Copy !req
77. Yeah, do take a moment to sit
with the flavor if you're not sure.Copy !req
78. I'm sorry, but that's rank.Copy !req
79. Okay.Copy !req
80. I mean,
I like the normal Hucklebuck,Copy !req
81. but these are just... I mean...Copy !req
82. I liked it.Copy !req
83. What did you say
the flavor group was?Copy !req
84. Uh, miso. It's a sort of umami.Copy !req
85. Why? Why would you do that?Copy !req
86. - Can I have another one?
- Yeah. Of course.Copy !req
87. Take as many as you like.Copy !req
88. Sorry.Copy !req
89. Maybe it's just me,
but it definitely grows on you.Copy !req
90. Okay.Copy !req
91. But on the second one,
it's, like, ten times better. Honest.Copy !req
92. You should try.Copy !req
93. Mm. Actually,Copy !req
94. now I've gotten used to it, it's...Copy !req
95. it's not bad.Copy !req
96. I like the saltiness.Copy !req
97. Okay, saltiness.Copy !req
98. It really compliments the chocolate,
like, the contrast.Copy !req
99. - Yeah. That's what I thought.
- Great.Copy !req
100. - Thank God for Verity, yeah?
- Yeah.Copy !req
101. - Thank you.
- Punchy.Copy !req
102. - Mm.
- Well done, boss.Copy !req
103. - The colors go...
- Thank you.Copy !req
104. That was my design brief.Copy !req
105. Maria.Copy !req
106. Yeah, it's Maria, isn't it?Copy !req
107. Verity Greene. Do you remember me?
Colworth Manor High.Copy !req
108. - Oh my God. Yes. Of course.
- Yeah.Copy !req
109. - Hi. Wow. It's been...
- God, yeah... like, ten years?Copy !req
110. - Crazy.
- Yeah. What are the chances?Copy !req
111. - Wow!
- Are you here for the tasting thing?Copy !req
112. Oh, no. No, no. No, I... I work here.Copy !req
113. - You work here?
- Yeah, in the R&D division.Copy !req
114. - In the R&D? Oh!
- Mm-hmm.Copy !req
115. Yeah, I'm just doing
the focus group thing.Copy !req
116. I really enjoyed it.
It was so interesting.Copy !req
117. All the new fillings.Copy !req
118. - I mean, all the science of it.
- Yeah.Copy !req
119. Yeah. I think I'm definitely gonna
apply for the job.Copy !req
120. - Right. Sorry, the job?
- Yeah, the, uh, research assistant in R&D.Copy !req
121. I don't think there is a job going.Copy !req
122. Oh, the...Copy !req
123. It said on the website
there was a vacancy.Copy !req
124. I'm quite... I mean, I'd know,Copy !req
125. and I, yeah, I don't think
there is a job going right now.Copy !req
126. - Oh.
- Sorry.Copy !req
127. Yeah, I could have sworn...Copy !req
128. Oh. That's a pity.Copy !req
129. If you remember anything about me,
you'll know that I love a lab.Copy !req
130. Yes.Copy !req
131. I was such a geek at school, wasn't I?Copy !req
132. - Well—
- I, like, lived in the computer room.Copy !req
133. Yeah, you were...Copy !req
134. I'm amazed you remember me at all
because you were definitely popular.Copy !req
135. I mean, I don't know—Copy !req
136. Oh yeah. No. Especially compared to me.Copy !req
137. Like, what was I?Copy !req
138. Um, look, I... Actually, I have to go.Copy !req
139. - Oh God, sorry. Yeah. Sorry.
- Yeah.Copy !req
140. Yeah, um...Copy !req
141. - It was good to see you.
- Yeah, you too.Copy !req
142. Hey, Gabe.Copy !req
143. - Hey.
- Hey.Copy !req
144. - Oh, nice one on the miso jam Hucklebuck.
- Oh.Copy !req
145. Camille said
they were hesitant at first, then...Copy !req
146. - Yeah, it's a grower.
- A big grower.Copy !req
147. They asked for takeaways.Copy !req
148. I just saw we've got an advert
for a research assistant.Copy !req
149. - Oh yeah. Yeah, it went up a few days ago.
- It's just that we hired Luisa in March.Copy !req
150. Well, expanding the team.Copy !req
151. I mean, we're doing well.
You are doing well.Copy !req
152. Ditta's really into your mallow concept.Copy !req
153. - Might launch it globally if he likes it.
- Mr. Ditta said that?Copy !req
154. Ask him if you don't believe me.
He'll be here Thursday.Copy !req
155. - Here?
- Yeah.Copy !req
156. Gonna get myself a new shirt.Copy !req
157. She's this girl
I went to school with.Copy !req
158. I haven't seen her in years,
and then today, bam,Copy !req
159. she's in one of the focus groups,
and then she's after a job in our office.Copy !req
160. - In your office?
- My office.Copy !req
161. - Is there a job going?
- Well, yeah, but not for her.Copy !req
162. - She was, like, the school freak.
- Is that her official title or...Copy !req
163. She was clever,Copy !req
164. like, brainbox clever
to the point where she was sort of "off."Copy !req
165. Zero social skills.Copy !req
166. She had this mad hair.Copy !req
167. She was always scribbling,
like, these weird little diagramsCopy !req
168. of, like, computers
that she wanted to build.Copy !req
169. She... sounds kind of cool.Copy !req
170. No, she definitely was not cool.
Right from the off.Copy !req
171. And there was this rumor about her.Copy !req
172. Spicy rumor?Copy !req
173. That she wanked off Mr. Kendrick
in the computer room.Copy !req
174. What, "Mr. Kendrick"?
What, like a teacher?Copy !req
175. Yeah. But it probably wasn't even true.Copy !req
176. - It was...
- That is...Copy !req
177. Teenagers love to gossip,
even if it's bullshit.Copy !req
178. This is you saying
you gossiped about Verity?Copy !req
179. - Everyone gossiped about Verity.
- Okay.Copy !req
180. - It was just... She was just...
- An easy target?Copy !req
181. Not for me.Copy !req
182. This one girl, Natalie Caine,Copy !req
183. when she heard about
the Mr. Kendrick stuff, she was ruthless.Copy !req
184. She kept calling Verity "Milkmaid,"Copy !req
185. like, over and over till it stuck,Copy !req
186. and then that was just her name.Copy !req
187. Like, "Look at Milkmaid's hair."
"Look at Milkmaid sitting on her own."Copy !req
188. - Kids can be vicious.
- Mm.Copy !req
189. But she was always
this big computer genius at school,Copy !req
190. and this says
she's been working at a travel agent.Copy !req
191. - Wait. Are you stalking her?
- No.Copy !req
192. But to go from that to food research,
I mean, why?Copy !req
193. Maybe she's got the qualifications.Copy !req
194. She won't have the qualifications.Copy !req
195. Uh, after that, then I took
molecular biochemistry at Cambridge.Copy !req
196. Yeah. I was quite proud
because I got a first.Copy !req
197. So I see.Copy !req
198. And around the same time,
I just got fascinated by food,Copy !req
199. so I enrolled in a catering course
at Oxford Brookes.Copy !req
200. You've been scuba diving
since you were 12?Copy !req
201. - That's your mate, isn't it?
- Mm.Copy !req
202. Oh, who's been at this?Copy !req
203. - Don't look at me.
- I'll write my name on it, then.Copy !req
204. - Need help with spelling? Begins with "L."
- Yeah. Funny.Copy !req
205. Uh, guys? Hello! Everyone.Copy !req
206. Um, this is Verity.Copy !req
207. She's gonna be joining us
as our new research assistant.Copy !req
208. Please make her feel welcome.Copy !req
209. Nick, could you find Verity a desk?Copy !req
210. Yeah. Definitely, yeah.Copy !req
211. Thank you.Copy !req
212. - Hi. Thank you.
- Enjoy.Copy !req
213. - Hi.
- Hi.Copy !req
214. - Do you want to come this way, m'lady?
- Yeah.Copy !req
215. - Uh, great. You're welcome.
- Hi.Copy !req
216. Hey, again.Copy !req
217. - How about right here?
- Oh.Copy !req
218. - Pre-warmed chair.
- Oh.Copy !req
219. - Slide you in, which is a plus.
- Gabe? Gabe? Hey.Copy !req
220. Um...Copy !req
221. - That's quite the fast track.
- Yeah, well, I just thought, why not?Copy !req
222. - She's overqualified if anything. I mean...
- Right, and that's... that's all legit?Copy !req
223. Well, I haven't rung Cambridge
to ask if she's a fantasist,Copy !req
224. if that's what you mean.Copy !req
225. I'm just saying
'cause, um, I went to school with her.Copy !req
226. - Yeah, you said. Did you not get on?
- There it is.Copy !req
227. No, it wasn't that.
It wasn't that. She was just a bit...Copy !req
228. A bit?Copy !req
229. You know...Copy !req
230. odd.Copy !req
231. Well, we're all a bit odd.Copy !req
232. I'm just saying
maybe kick the tires a bit more.Copy !req
233. I'll... I'll call around. Better?Copy !req
234. Yeah. Look, it's probably all fine.Copy !req
235. Yeah. It probably is.Copy !req
236. It's a great place to work.Copy !req
237. We're a really chill partnership, and, um...Copy !req
238. No, internal dating is allowed,
but it's just frowned upon in some areas.Copy !req
239. We'll add you to, uh, the WhatsApp group.Copy !req
240. Um, there's a funny WhatsApp group.
We do memes. We do sort of, like...Copy !req
241. Hey, babes.Copy !req
242. - Gabe's hired her.
- Huh?Copy !req
243. Verity fucking Greene.Copy !req
244. So she was qualified.Copy !req
245. Yeah, on paper.Copy !req
246. Qualifications are on paper.Copy !req
247. Have you got beef with her?Copy !req
248. No.Copy !req
249. It sounds like you got beef with her.Copy !req
250. Go back to your... game.Copy !req
251. - Doors closing.
- Oh.Copy !req
252. - Morning.
- Doors opening.Copy !req
253. - Morning.
- Morning.Copy !req
254. - Doors closing.
- So I checked Verity out.Copy !req
255. - Yeah?
- Clean bill of health.Copy !req
256. - They all said super attentive.
- Okay.Copy !req
257. - Really smart.
- Okay.Copy !req
258. - Plays well with others. Yeah.
- I get it.Copy !req
259. - So, um, all okay?
- Floor two.Copy !req
260. All okay.Copy !req
261. Doors opening.Copy !req
262. Great, because I told Verity she can
conduit between you and Yudy today.Copy !req
263. - She can conduit? Conduit's not a verb.
- You know, liaise.Copy !req
264. - You... you got what I meant.
- Also, we don't need a conduit.Copy !req
265. It's just so, you know,
she can watch your process.Copy !req
266. - Learn the ropes.
- Right.Copy !req
267. - Uh-huh. And maybe even break the ice.
- Sure.Copy !req
268. - Have you tasted Verity's flapjacks? Wow.
- Steady on.Copy !req
269. - Help yourself.
- Hey. What's going on?Copy !req
270. These are so good.Copy !req
271. - Mmm. You should work for a food company.
- Yeah, maybe I should.Copy !req
272. So this is my new mallow concept,
the Doubloon.Copy !req
273. Mmm. I wanna eat it already!Copy !req
274. Always a good sign.Copy !req
275. So, for Yudy, the kitchen head, we compile
the full list of ingredients, obviously.Copy !req
276. Right, yes. That's where I come in.Copy !req
277. For today, yeah.Copy !req
278. - So, for the enrobing chocolate...
- Mm-hmm.Copy !req
279. that is 70% dark with fine salt crystals.Copy !req
280. 70% dark choc, fine salt crystals.Copy !req
281. - Yeah.
- Um...Copy !req
282. And the, um, marshmallow?Copy !req
283. - It's just mallow.
- Yep, right, mallow.Copy !req
284. Non-pork gelatine for the mallow.Copy !req
285. Non-pork gelatine.Copy !req
286. Actually, you know what? I can't remember
if it's pork Mr. Ditta doesn't eat.Copy !req
287. Better to go totally plant-based.
Um, carrageenan.Copy !req
288. Uh...Copy !req
289. Uh, it's made from...
it's made from a sort of seaweed.Copy !req
290. - Oh, seriously, again?
- Carra...Copy !req
291. - Who's had me almond milk?
- Carrageenan.Copy !req
292. - "Not I," said the little red hen.
- How do I spell that?Copy !req
293. Uh, carra...Copy !req
294. Uh, carrageenan is...Copy !req
295. - C-A-R...
- Uh, no. It's...Copy !req
296. - I know it was...
- Honestly, I went for cow's milk.Copy !req
297. Um...Copy !req
298. Know what? I'm just gonna email you
with the full spelling.Copy !req
299. - Yeah, great. That's great.
- Yeah? Great, great.Copy !req
300. Seriously, this stuff costs,
like, £4.50 a carton.Copy !req
301. I actually lived above a Greggs
in Wandsworth once.Copy !req
302. My waistline's still not forgiven me.Copy !req
303. I used to be hooked
on their steak bake.Copy !req
304. It was like heroin in pastry for me,
but now I've gone vegan, so...Copy !req
305. - They do a chicken one?
- Yeah. It has weird sauce.Copy !req
306. The only chicken thing I actually miss
is the Morley's burger.Copy !req
307. Oh, I love Morley's.Copy !req
308. Well, if we're talking fast-food chicken,
the absolute winner for me is Bernie's.Copy !req
309. - Bernie's?
- Bernie's Chicken.Copy !req
310. Had branches everywhere. Went bust.Copy !req
311. Whoever Bernie was,
he was shit with money.Copy !req
312. It was Barnie's.Copy !req
313. - Say again.
- Barnie's Chicken, the chicken chain.Copy !req
314. It was "Barnie's" with an "a,"
not Bernie's with an "e."Copy !req
315. Yeah, no,
it was definitely Bernie's.Copy !req
316. - B-E-R—
- B-A-R-N-I-E-S.Copy !req
317. "Barney" with an I-E at the ending?
That's not how you spell Barney.Copy !req
318. No, I think "Barnie" meant,
like, an animal that lives in a barn.Copy !req
319. Like a chicken.Copy !req
320. They live in coops.Copy !req
321. - Honestly, it's Barnie's.
- Yeah.Copy !req
322. It was the chain. Bernie's.
They were all over South London.Copy !req
323. Yeah, sorry, I've got to say, I think
it was Bernie's. Bernie's Chicken.Copy !req
324. - Okay. I know for a fact it's Barnie's.
- She's getting a strop on.Copy !req
325. Yeah, Nick, because my boyfriend
used to work at a Barnie's.Copy !req
326. He still wears a baseball cap from there,
so I see the logo every single day.Copy !req
327. So I know it is Barnie's.Copy !req
328. Come on, guys.
"Bernie's,"Barnie's," does it matter?Copy !req
329. - It matters that she's wrong.
- Oh my God! Okay! Okay!Copy !req
330. - Let's Google it.
- Yeah, okay. Let's do it.Copy !req
331. - Let's Google it.
- Yep.Copy !req
332. Barnie's Chicken.Copy !req
333. Oh dear.Copy !req
334. N... No.Copy !req
335. - Oh no. Oh, no, no, no.
- No, look.Copy !req
336. - Oh, deary me.
- No.Copy !req
337. - No?
- It was not that.Copy !req
338. - Oh, is it not? No.
- It wasn't that.Copy !req
339. - Is the whole Internet wrong today?
- It...Copy !req
340. - That's annoying, isn't it?
- Oh my God.Copy !req
341. Troubleshoot that if you can.Copy !req
342. Feel the "Bern."Copy !req
343. - Nick...
- What?Copy !req
344. - Let it go.
- I am.Copy !req
345. - Hon...
- Mm-hmm?Copy !req
346. Look at this.Copy !req
347. - What about it?
- It's changed.Copy !req
348. - From what?
- Just read it.Copy !req
349. Bernie's.Copy !req
350. It used to say "Barnie's."Copy !req
351. Why? It's Bernie's Chicken.Copy !req
352. - You okay?
- It was Barnie's.Copy !req
353. - Babes.
- Don't "babes" me. It was Barnie's.Copy !req
354. I was the one who worked
at a Bernie's Chicken for a year, okay?Copy !req
355. - It's always been Bernie's.
- I swear to God, it's changed.Copy !req
356. Maybe you just think it has,
like the Mandela Effect.Copy !req
357. - People misremember things.
- No. I...Copy !req
358. Like the Monopoly man wearing a monocle.
That was a big one.Copy !req
359. - I made a dick of myself at work.
- 'Cause of Bernie's Chicken?Copy !req
360. - No, because of fucking Verity.
- Okay, what's she got to do with that?Copy !req
361. She's just getting on my nerves.Copy !req
362. Everyone's fawning all over her,
kissing her arse.Copy !req
363. - She's allowed to be popular.
- Why are you taking her side?Copy !req
364. - What side? She's allowed to be popular.
- I didn't say she wasn't.Copy !req
365. It doesn't make her a threat.Copy !req
366. - I didn't call her a threat.
- Okay, well...Copy !req
367. What? Now I'm threatened
by popular people? Is that it?Copy !req
368. No, I'm just saying
that you like to be top dog.Copy !req
369. - Oh, fuck off.
- You do.Copy !req
370. You love it
when everyone's sucking your dick—Copy !req
371. I expect people to suck my dick?Copy !req
372. I didn't say "expect."Copy !req
373. Oh sorry. I ask them to?Copy !req
374. Be a bit difficult
since I don't have a fucking dick.Copy !req
375. You can relate to that, can't you?Copy !req
376. Bernie's Chicken!Copy !req
377. Oh, just through here, Mr. Ditta.
This is where the magic happens.Copy !req
378. Uh, this is Nick in Graphics.Copy !req
379. Um, Kitchen Head, Yudy.Copy !req
380. And, of course,
of Chili Flake Bête Noire fame,Copy !req
381. our chief wizard, Maria.Copy !req
382. Oh, technically,
a female wizard is a witch, so...Copy !req
383. Either way,
I'm impressed by your conjuring.Copy !req
384. Thank you.Copy !req
385. Ah, the famous miso jam Hucklebuck.Copy !req
386. I've heard good things.Copy !req
387. There is a bit of
a learning curve to it.Copy !req
388. Very good.Copy !req
389. Uh, this is the Doubloon.Copy !req
390. - Mm-hmm.
- It's a new concept.Copy !req
391. - It's made from—
- Please, please, no spoilers.Copy !req
392. Let me guess.Copy !req
393. That's good.Copy !req
394. That's great.Copy !req
395. Okay, so it's, uh,Copy !req
396. dark salted chocolate.Copy !req
397. - Yes.
- And, um, kind of a marshmallow.Copy !req
398. - Just mallow.
- Mm.Copy !req
399. But what's this texture?
It's very interesting.Copy !req
400. Uh, well, it's bound
with a plant-based gelatine,Copy !req
401. which is derived from seaweed.Copy !req
402. - Seaweed?
- Mm.Copy !req
403. - Um...
- The things that we can do, hey? May I?Copy !req
404. Yeah. Oh, yeah, you're the boss.Copy !req
405. Mmm.Copy !req
406. Mmm.Copy !req
407. Tight ship you're running, Gabe.
See you in Berlin.Copy !req
408. Yes. Of course.Copy !req
409. Good. And I think you should join us.Copy !req
410. I...Copy !req
411. Yeah. Yes.Copy !req
412. - Good.
- Okay, all right.Copy !req
413. - What is up with you?
- It's beef gelatine in the mallow.Copy !req
414. - Beef?
- Oh, what? Ditta is Hindu.Copy !req
415. - You just fed him beef.
- Carrageenan.Copy !req
416. - I said "carrageenan."
- Wasn't on the list.Copy !req
417. - I was specific.
- It wasn't on Verity's list.Copy !req
418. Verity's list.Copy !req
419. Verity's list.Copy !req
420. - Sorry, what did you call it?
- Carrageenan.Copy !req
421. - I've never heard that word before.
- You wrote it down.Copy !req
422. You even asked how to spell it.Copy !req
423. - She just said, "Non-pork gelatine."
- I didn't.Copy !req
424. Luisa was complaining about
almond milk. Maybe you were distracted.Copy !req
425. - Honestly, non-pork was all she said.
- So it's a verbal instruction.Copy !req
426. Maybe some things get misheard.Copy !req
427. I wrote it in an email to her.
Listed every ingredient.Copy !req
428. Sorry, Maria, but in the email you sent,
it just says non-pork gelatine.Copy !req
429. I know what I wrote.Copy !req
430. Well... Please stop shouting at me.Copy !req
431. I am not...Copy !req
432. - I am not shouting.
- You've been raising your voice.Copy !req
433. - What? When?
- I think you need to calm down.Copy !req
434. I am calm!Copy !req
435. I'm... I...Copy !req
436. I am calm.Copy !req
437. Gabe, I remember what I wrote
and how I wrote it.Copy !req
438. I am saying that Verity is mistaken.Copy !req
439. Let's see that email.Copy !req
440. Mm.Copy !req
441. - You owe Verity an apology.
- That is not what I wrote.Copy !req
442. Just apologize.Copy !req
443. I'm sorry.Copy !req
444. Can I go now?Copy !req
445. - She altered it somehow.
- Whoa!Copy !req
446. - I don't know how or why. She must have.
- Maria.Copy !req
447. Gabe, please, come on.
You have known me for years.Copy !req
448. Will you please just listen to me?Copy !req
449. I am listening. You sound quite emotional.Copy !req
450. I... know what I wrote.Copy !req
451. Look, you have
some personal issues with Verity.Copy !req
452. I can see that.Copy !req
453. But, from my perspective,
she's hardworking, you know, well-liked.Copy !req
454. - She's done nothing wrong.
- Yeah, she's doing this.Copy !req
455. No one is doing anything.Copy !req
456. - Look, is everything all right at home?
- Don't fucking patronize me.Copy !req
457. - If you want to take some time off...
- I am fine.Copy !req
458. All right. Well, if that ever changes,Copy !req
459. I'm always here to talk.Copy !req
460. Oh, uh, Maria.Copy !req
461. In the meantime,Copy !req
462. get off Verity's back.Copy !req
463. Okay?Copy !req
464. You're starting to look vindictive.Copy !req
465. What I don't understand is
how she changed the fucking email. How?Copy !req
466. Maybe she didn't.Copy !req
467. - Kae, I know what I wrote.
- Maybe you sent it to draft by mistake.Copy !req
468. I checked the draft folder. Fucking hell.Copy !req
469. Have you... have you listened
to anything I've fucking said?Copy !req
470. Every word since you came in.Copy !req
471. Okay, Verity has orchestrated
some high-tech conspiracy—Copy !req
472. She has always been good with computers.
Like, mad genius level.Copy !req
473. - She is doing this.
- I think you're working too hard.Copy !req
474. - Oh, don't you fucking start.
- I do. You're sounding...Copy !req
475. I think you sound stressed and obsessed.Copy !req
476. Sh, Natalie texted back.Copy !req
477. Who's Natalie?Copy !req
478. Nat from school.Copy !req
479. It's not from her.Copy !req
480. "Hi, this is Dan, Nat's husband."Copy !req
481. "No easy way to say this,
but Nat passed away a few days ago."Copy !req
482. "Sorry it took a while to reply,Copy !req
483. but it's been tough,
as I'm sure you understand."Copy !req
484. Shit.Copy !req
485. Sorry.Copy !req
486. Was she a close friend or...Copy !req
487. Maybe just send him a text, you know.
Poor guy.Copy !req
488. "Sorry for your loss," or...Copy !req
489. Don't... Babes, don't call. What you doing?
The man just said he's grieving.Copy !req
490. - Hello?
- Hey! Hi, sorry.Copy !req
491. Um, this is... this is Maria, um,
from Nat's school. You just texted me.Copy !req
492. Yeah. Your name was on the thing.Copy !req
493. Honey, stop.Copy !req
494. Sorry to break it in a text.
It's just been rough, you know?Copy !req
495. With the kids and... It was such a shock.Copy !req
496. Oh, I'm sure, I'm sure, I'm sure.Copy !req
497. Um, God, yeah.Copy !req
498. How did she...Copy !req
499. Was she ill, or...Copy !req
500. - Maria.
- Or...Copy !req
501. - How did she... die?
- Yeah.Copy !req
502. She... she took her own life.Copy !req
503. - As in, she killed herself?
- Yeah.Copy !req
504. But why? I mean...Copy !req
505. I don't know. Some kind of breakdown.Copy !req
506. In the weeks leading up,
she wasn't really rational.Copy !req
507. How so?Copy !req
508. Like, paranoid. Accusing everyone
of lying about stuff. Stupid things.Copy !req
509. Her grip on reality wasn't,
you know, the best.Copy !req
510. Sorry, why... why do you wanna know this?Copy !req
511. Had she been in touch
with anyone from school?Copy !req
512. What do you mean?Copy !req
513. Had she bumped into anyone
from Colworth Manor High?Copy !req
514. - What's that have to do with anything?
- Did she mention Verity Greene?Copy !req
515. - No. I don't know who that is.
- Fuck's sake. Maria.Copy !req
516. - Are you sure?
- Look, I'm sure.Copy !req
517. - Verity Greene.
- Listen, I have to go.Copy !req
518. - I've got to put my kids to bed.
- Oh, I'm so sorry.Copy !req
519. - I'm gonna hang up.
- If you could try to remember...Copy !req
520. Don't call this number again.Copy !req
521. Morning.Copy !req
522. Are you sitting the meeting out?Copy !req
523. Sorry?Copy !req
524. There was a team meeting this morning.
The rest are still down there.Copy !req
525. - I'm early.
- Uh, it was at 8:00.Copy !req
526. - No one said.
- I think Gabe sent an email yesterday.Copy !req
527. I did not see that.Copy !req
528. - I mean, it's probably in your junk.
- Oh, I bet it is.Copy !req
529. Do you have a problem with me?Copy !req
530. What?Copy !req
531. You just seem like
you have a problem with me.Copy !req
532. And why might that be?Copy !req
533. I don't know.Copy !req
534. You can't think of any reason?Copy !req
535. I know you didn't think
much of me at school.Copy !req
536. I didn't think anything of you
at school, Verity. I hardly noticed you.Copy !req
537. You even said yourself
you were always in the computer room.Copy !req
538. I'm sorry, but you didn't really
cross my mind very often.Copy !req
539. - People said stuff about me.
- I don't know. Did they?Copy !req
540. About me and Mr. Kendrick.Copy !req
541. I never... I never believed any of that.Copy !req
542. Whole time I was at school, he was,
like, the only one who was nice to me.Copy !req
543. He didn't care
that I had mad hair or whatever.Copy !req
544. He just, like, told me I was clever,
and he looked out for me.Copy !req
545. That computer room, like, I lived for it,Copy !req
546. those lunchtimes, because it was
the only place I wasn't on my own.Copy !req
547. So when he was transferred, I had nothing.Copy !req
548. Because everything
outside of that was, like...Copy !req
549. You know.Copy !req
550. Kids can be fucking awful.Copy !req
551. They're just kids. They're not thinking.Copy !req
552. Yeah, I know.Copy !req
553. I never had a problem with you, Verity.Copy !req
554. And I am... I'm really sorry
that you had such a hard time.Copy !req
555. Thank you.Copy !req
556. Mm.Copy !req
557. Nick, we gotta change that slogan
by the end of the day.Copy !req
558. "Crunchy Surprise" is not gonna play. Oh.Copy !req
559. What's with the no-show at the meeting?Copy !req
560. Hello?Copy !req
561. We had an emergency recall. A YouTuber
found a toenail in a Caramel Cove.Copy !req
562. Did you not get my email?Copy !req
563. Maria, my email?Copy !req
564. Uh, I bet it's in my spam.Copy !req
565. Oh, you guys are taking the piss.Copy !req
566. Okay, sorry, everyone.Copy !req
567. Uh, this keeps happening,
and it's not on, all right?Copy !req
568. One of you's been at my almond milk again.Copy !req
569. And it was full this morning,
so... I know it's just happened.Copy !req
570. So who was it?Copy !req
571. I was in the meeting with you, so...Copy !req
572. Oh my God. It was her.Copy !req
573. Okay? It was Verity.
She drank the whole thing in front of me.Copy !req
574. - Why are you doing this?
- Because you are a fucking freak.Copy !req
575. - Okay, enough.
- I don't know why she's doing this.Copy !req
576. - I don't know why you're doing this.
- I didn't want to say.Copy !req
577. I find her so intimidating.Copy !req
578. But it was Maria who drank your milk.Copy !req
579. Really?Copy !req
580. I drank almond milk?Copy !req
581. Yeah.Copy !req
582. Which I'm allergic to?Copy !req
583. I mean, I only know what I saw.Copy !req
584. - You lunatic fucking liar.
- I said enough.Copy !req
585. We can... we can just check the camera.Copy !req
586. The security camera?Copy !req
587. Okay?Copy !req
588. Uh-huh.Copy !req
589. Yeah. Let's do it.Copy !req
590. All right.Copy !req
591. Okay.Copy !req
592. - Kitchen area.
- Mm-hmm.Copy !req
593. - Play it from here?
- Yeah.Copy !req
594. Honestly, it wasn't me. It was her.Copy !req
595. Let's just... watch the tape.Copy !req
596. Jesus Christ, Maria.Copy !req
597. I didn't do that.Copy !req
598. Oh my— That...Copy !req
599. That is not even possible.
I've got a nut allergy!Copy !req
600. - No such thing as a nut allergy.
- What's "nutallergy"?Copy !req
601. - A nut allergy.
- What?Copy !req
602. Nut...Copy !req
603. "Nutallergy"?Copy !req
604. An allergy to nuts.Copy !req
605. I am allergic to nuts.Copy !req
606. Well...Copy !req
607. I have had a serious nut allergy
my whole life.Copy !req
608. I've always had to read ingredients
and study labels.Copy !req
609. It's how I got into food.
Because of my nut allergy!Copy !req
610. "Nutallergy." You keep saying it
like it's supposed to mean something.Copy !req
611. - What does it mean?
- Do you know?Copy !req
612. No.Copy !req
613. Oh, now we're Googling it. Okay.Copy !req
614. How are you doing this?Copy !req
615. Okay, look, Maria. Look, just...Copy !req
616. - It's that. It's that pendant thing.
- Maria...Copy !req
617. Oh my God. She's changing things...Copy !req
618. Okay. Whoa. Hey.Copy !req
619. with that thing around her neck.Copy !req
620. - Get off me!
- You need to calm down.Copy !req
621. I am calm. I am calm.Copy !req
622. All right. So why don't we just sit down?Copy !req
623. Let's— Maria. Hey! Whoa!Copy !req
624. Your actions leave me
with no choice but to let you go.Copy !req
625. Maybe you're struggling
with your mental health. I...Copy !req
626. Whatever nutallergy is,
I don't know.Copy !req
627. But you need to take a break
and focus on yourself.Copy !req
628. You need to get well.Copy !req
629. This is not coming from me as a bossCopy !req
630. but as a friend,
one human being to another.Copy !req
631. Please speak to someone.Copy !req
632. - Get some help.
- Oh, shut up, you cunt.Copy !req
633. - See you tomorrow, Verity.
- See you tomorrow, Nick.Copy !req
634. What the fuck?Copy !req
635. Oh shit.Copy !req
636. Shit. Ow!Copy !req
637. Come out.Copy !req
638. I will call the police.Copy !req
639. Yeah, I thought it might be you.Copy !req
640. I've got your fucking thing.Copy !req
641. Your fucking pendant.Copy !req
642. It won't work for you. It's got finger ID.Copy !req
643. This changes things, doesn't it?Copy !req
644. You say something,Copy !req
645. you fiddle with this,Copy !req
646. and then somehow, reality changes.Copy !req
647. How can that little thing change reality?Copy !req
648. It's just a remote.Copy !req
649. Connects to
the quantum compiler downstairs.Copy !req
650. That's what changes reality.
I'll show you how it works.Copy !req
651. - You're not fucking getting this back.
- It really is just a remote.Copy !req
652. I've got loads of them.Copy !req
653. Technically, it's not changing anything.Copy !req
654. It just retunes our corporal frequencyCopy !req
655. to one of the parallel realities where
whatever I've said has always been true.Copy !req
656. There's infinite timelines,
so I just pick the oneCopy !req
657. where you're the only one
who knows what's going on.Copy !req
658. - So you feel really...
- How...Copy !req
659. special.Copy !req
660. - Where... where did you—
- I built the system.Copy !req
661. Computer lab nerdo.Copy !req
662. I can change little things, like you chose
a red top this morning instead of yellow.Copy !req
663. Make it so you've always spoken Chinese.Copy !req
664. Make it so we're having
this conversation in the office.Copy !req
665. Or put it all back.Copy !req
666. You total fucking bitch!Copy !req
667. It's quite cool, though, isn't it?Copy !req
668. I don't understand.Copy !req
669. I don't care if you understand it.Copy !req
670. I'm doing it to hurt you.Copy !req
671. That's the main thing.Copy !req
672. Why?Copy !req
673. - You know why.
- I don't know.Copy !req
674. Who started that rumor...Copy !req
675. about me and Mr. Kendrick?Copy !req
676. - What?
- Who started the lie?Copy !req
677. I... I don't know.Copy !req
678. And you're still lying.Copy !req
679. Natalie Caine told me it was you.Copy !req
680. Just before she jumped.
She said it was you.Copy !req
681. Was she lying?Copy !req
682. No.Copy !req
683. Then why?Copy !req
684. I don't know.Copy !req
685. Um, maybe I was jealous.Copy !req
686. Um, maybe I wanted Natalie
to get off my back.Copy !req
687. I... It wasn't my fault.
I just said it as a joke.Copy !req
688. She ran with it, and, like...Copy !req
689. And everyone else just went along with it.Copy !req
690. Yeah, and then it became a reality,
and weirdo Milkmaid couldn't fight back.Copy !req
691. And she was stuck there.Copy !req
692. Just like everyone calling her mad.Copy !req
693. Lonely old place, isn't it?Copy !req
694. You... you could use that.Copy !req
695. You could use that to do anything.Copy !req
696. You can make it
so that none of that matters.Copy !req
697. - You could be—
- Empress of the universe?Copy !req
698. Yeah.Copy !req
699. What, make it
so I'm empress of the universe?Copy !req
700. Worshiped by acolytes?Copy !req
701. Yeah. Yeah, that was
the first thing I did.Copy !req
702. Don't get me wrong. It was amazing.Copy !req
703. For a while.Copy !req
704. I've done everything.Copy !req
705. I've been everything.Copy !req
706. But whatever I do, all that stuff is just...Copy !req
707. It's just still there.Copy !req
708. Just aching away.Copy !req
709. So here I am, fixing a hole.Copy !req
710. Seeking closure.Copy !req
711. Took me five weeks to break Natalie.Copy !req
712. You've been what, like,Copy !req
713. five days.Copy !req
714. How do you think you'll do it?Copy !req
715. She was a jumper, but you're not a jumper.Copy !req
716. Maybe you like wrists.Copy !req
717. Or, um...Copy !req
718. Ow!Copy !req
719. Fuck!Copy !req
720. - The police are here. Armed police.
- Fuck you!Copy !req
721. Your boyfriend called
and said you've gone berserk.Copy !req
722. You've broken into my house with a knife.Copy !req
723. Police! Drop it!Copy !req
724. Oh, thank God you're here.Copy !req
725. Don't let her hurt me.Copy !req
726. Drop the knife.Copy !req
727. Hands on your head. Now.Copy !req
728. Turn around.Copy !req
729. Christ!Copy !req
730. Drop it!Copy !req
731. Get your hands up!Copy !req
732. Stop!Copy !req
733. The pendant works for me.
The pendant works for me!Copy !req
734. Drop it now, now, now!Copy !req
735. She shot herself. It wasn't me.
You saw the whole thing.Copy !req
736. I know.Copy !req
737. Who is she?Copy !req
738. Um...Copy !req
739. I've never seen her before
in my life. I don't know who she is.Copy !req
740. So why did she shoot herself?
What's going on here?Copy !req
741. We're gonna need to take you
to the station to ask some questions.Copy !req
742. No, you won't.Copy !req
743. How so?Copy !req
744. You work for me. Both of you.Copy !req
745. Yes, guv.Copy !req
746. You worship me.Copy !req
747. Yes, ma'am.Copy !req
748. Because...Copy !req
749. I am...Copy !req
750. I am the empressCopy !req
751. of... the universe.Copy !req
752. Hail Maria.Copy !req
753. Hail Maria!
Hail Maria! Hail Maria!Copy !req
754. Hail Maria! Hail Maria! Hail Maria!Copy !req
