Better Call Saul 4x2

1. Who keeps track of all that? (FLASHLIGHT BUTTON CLICKS)

2. It's all on the computer. Computer does everything.

3. Every stat gets converted into points.

4. I don't know. Sounds kind of dumb, to be honest.

5. I just want to watch the game. (SCOFFS)

6. You're just afraid to lose 20 bucks.

7. You want to bet on the game, let's do it.

8. Why do we got to mess with all this extra stuff?

9. Trust me. You end up...

10. He's no longer in a coma, but he's unresponsive.

11. His condition is stable.

12. They're managing his blood pressure.

13. But whether he will wake up

14. and understand what's going on around him,

15. there's no way of knowing.

16. That's unacceptable.

17. Gustavo, he's getting very good care here.

18. There's very little even the best hospitals could do.

19. Now, might it be different

20. if he was in the care of someplace like Johns Hopkins?

21. Perhaps.

22. Or it could make no difference at all.

23. But in the end...

24. In the end...

25. I can think of no better judgment on this man.

26. Isn't this what he deserves?

27. I decide what he deserves.

28. No one else.

29. There she is!

30. Want some fresh O.J.?

31. Mmm, good. Vitamin C.

32. It'll help you heal quicker.

33. I don't think it works like that.

34. Eh, it might. You don't know.

35. I'm good.

36. (SIGHS) Oh, I've also got leftover bacon

37. from my breakfast sandwich.

38. That's got definite healing powers.

39. Okay. That I believe.

40. And I made coffee with a little cinnamon in it for flavor.

41. Just trying something different.

42. (MUFFLED) You're up early.

43. Yeah.

44. Oh, did I wake you with the noise?

45. No. No, no, not at all.

46. (SIGHS) I totally did, didn't I?

47. No. I was... I was getting up...

48. I'm sorry. eventually.

49. I've got job interviews lined up.

50. I wanted to get an early jump.

51. I'm starting down south.

52. Office-manager interview in Polvadera.

53. Then I'm working my way up north to Algodones.

54. I got a lot of ground to cover.

55. Jimmy, you know, you can take some time off.

56. Nobody's gonna ding you for not having a steady job right this minute.

57. (SIGHS) Why wait?

58. I don't want unemployment hanging over my head,

59. and we could use another paycheck.

60. And, uh... (SMOOCHES)

61. Besides, this is your office now.

62. I don't want to be a distraction.

63. But you're not a distraction. That's right.

64. 'Cause I'm gonna be out there finding me a job.

65. Wish me luck! Good luck.

66. Oh, Thai or Mexican?

67. Hmm?

68. I'm gonna pick up dinner on the way back.

69. Oh. Uh, either. Your choice.

70. And what a choice it shall be.

71. Yeah. Okay, Jimmy, wait. Are you...

72. You're not going to that meeting?

73. Nah.

74. Uh, if there's anything important,

75. Howard knows how to find me.

76. Papa.

77. Mijo.

78. You see there, that's Alma. And on the left is Ollie, Mr. Neff's aunt and uncle.

79. They started this company almost 50 years ago.

80. Whoa. Hmm.

81. Look at that. Yeah.

82. And we think that other fellow is Frank Corker,

83. one of the early repairmen.

84. Oh, they must have relied on him a lot.

85. That's a Thermo-Fax.

86. Needed a specially coated paper

87. to get an image off one of those babies.

88. Oh. You know your stuff.

89. Ah, I worked in a mail room,

90. so I talked to a lot of repairmen... A lot.

91. (CHUCKLES) They love talking shop.

92. Yes. They are a lonely bunch for sure.

93. Uh, this one was a real big seller for Neff,

94. really put us on the map.

95. That's the 6500 color copier. Yeah.

96. That's a war-horse.

97. I mean, did you ever see the guts of this beast?

98. It takes 15 seconds to get a printout.

99. I worked with one back in Chicago.

100. That machine was almost too good.

101. Counterfeiters used it to make phony $5 bills.

102. (SMACKS LIPS) What?

103. Yeah.

104. That's... That's not right.

105. (SCOFFS) (CHUCKLES) No.

106. Oh, oh, lookit here. You got a lot of hardware over here.

107. Yes. Phew.

108. Mr. Neff loves sponsoring the kids.

109. Bowling. That's fun.

110. We had a pretty good run in the '90s,

111. but, uh, we don't find kids much interested anymore.

112. Yeah. This generation is all hackey sack and video games.

113. (CHUCKLING) Ain't that the truth.

114. Hummels.

115. Yes. Those were Alma's.

116. She loved collecting the little things, God rest her soul.

117. Yeah. I knew a lady. Same way. Hmm.

118. Ah, touring the wall of crap, I see.

119. I need to drag that stuff to the dumpster,

120. just haven't had a chance to motivate myself.

121. Mr. Neff, this is James McGill.

122. Oh, just Jimmy is fine.

123. Jimmy, pleasure. Come on down.

124. Have a seat.

125. Guessing Henry filled you in on what we're looking for.

126. Oh, he did, indeed. Um, office-to-office salesman,

127. willing to have multiple doors slammed in my face,

128. with one mission.

129. Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade their old copiers

130. to your top-of-the-line new ones.

131. Well, you think you have the chops?

132. It's a lot harder than it sounds.

133. Well, I'd sure love a crack at it.

134. I've been told stubbornness and persuasiveness are two of my top qualities.

135. (CHUCKLES) I have to say, Jimmy does know his way around a copier.

136. No kidding. (CHUCKLES)

137. Well...

138. Says here you were a lawyer

139. up until not that long ago.

140. What changed?

141. Well, you know why God made snakes before he made lawyers?

142. He needed the practice.

143. "Needed the practice." Yeah.

144. Right?

145. And that's pretty much the only lawyer joke I know

146. 'cause all the others are true stories.

147. Look, I know you're looking for somebody with sales experience,

148. and I don't have any,

149. except... Except being a lawyer.

150. Look, being a lawyer, my job was sales.

151. I was selling to judges. I was selling to juries.

152. Sometimes I was selling to clients

153. to take the best deal from a series of bad options,

154. but every hour of every day, I was convincing, persuading.

155. I was selling.

156. I hear what you're saying.

157. You know, we have a lot of high-ticket items

158. and a clientele primed to say "no."

159. Well, my spirit animal is a Gila monster.

160. Once I latch on, I don't let go.

161. I like it. I like it.

162. Well, you make a lot of excellent points, Jimmy.

163. I can see why Henry wanted me to meet you.

164. Well, thank you for coming down.

165. Yeah, absolutely. Anytime.

166. Yeah. We're gonna put our heads together,

167. have a decision in, say, about a week or so.

168. Great. We'll let you know then.

169. Thank you very much. You bet.

170. Great.

171. Yes?

172. I'm sorry. Could I just have another minute?

173. Uh, I'll be real quick.

174. Uh, yeah, sure, Jimmy.

175. Uh, what's on your mind?

176. Look, I know you were gonna take some time and consider your options,

177. but maybe we can settle this right now.

178. There's a thing that we all know called opportunity cost.

179. The time you spend looking for someone

180. is time I could be out there working for you.

181. And, sure, there are salesmen out there

182. with way more experience than me.

183. But what are the chances one of them's gonna come

184. walking through that door in the next week?

185. And is it worth the wait?

186. Maybe. Maybe.

187. But I can tell you this.

188. None of them will have the connection

189. to your machines that I do. None.

190. I worked in the mail room.

191. I know how important the copy machine is.

192. Deadlines, last-minute changes, and I was in there.

193. I was clearing paper jams.

194. I was cleaning ink off gears and rollers,

195. trying to figure out where the mystery streaks were coming from.

196. (CHUCKLES) I was down on my hands and knees,

197. with my tie over my shoulder and ink-stained hands

198. and a line of assistants out the door,

199. and they're all worried that they're gonna lose their job

200. if they don't get their document in the next five minutes.

201. I know... I know better than anyone that the copier,

202. it's the beating heart of any business.

203. It goes down, it causes delays.

204. That is lost money.

205. That is frustrated employees.

206. That's a negative work environment.

207. That's a business on life support.

208. But you plug one of your new machines into the system... Whew!

209. That is a healthy, strong heartbeat.

210. Ca-chunk, ca-chunk, ca-chunk.

211. That is a healthy business.

212. Ca-chunk, ca-chunk, ca-chunk.

213. That is a successful business!

214. And that's what we're selling.

215. Um, just a minute.

216. (WHISPERING) I don't need to...

217. (WHISPERING) I mean, it's kind of exciting.

218. I mean, it was great, and I think the passion that this gentleman has...

219. Can you imagine sending that guy out?

220. Yeah. Come on.

221. (IN NORMAL VOICE) Jimmy, welcome to the team.

222. Really?

223. Damn right! (CHUCKLES) Congrats.

224. We'll get you set up with Audrey in H.R.,

225. fill out your paperwork,

226. and hopefully you'll be all set by the end of the day.

227. (CHUCKLES) So, just like that, huh?

228. Yep. Why wait when we could get you rolling?

229. You were gonna take some time, though,

230. and, uh, consider your options, but, uh...

231. I just come in and did that little song and dance, and I'm in?

232. (CHUCKLES) Yeah. Right. That's right.

233. W... Are you out of your mind?

234. You don't know me.

235. I just came in off the street.

236. You guys are like a couple of cats.

237. I come in and wave a shiny object around, you're like, "I want that!"

238. (CHUCKLES) No due diligence?

239. No background check?

240. No. Just hire the guy that says them fancy words?

241. I could be a serial killer!

242. I could be a guy who pees in your coffee pot!

243. I could be both! (SLAPS THIGH)

244. So, you're not taking the job?

245. No, I'm not taking the job.

246. Suckers.

247. I feel sorry for you.

248. Hello. Um, I'm wondering, are you still interviewing

249. for the sales associate position?

250. Great. I could be there in, um, 20 minutes.

251. James McGill.

252. Ellen. Okay. Wonderful.

253. Well, thank you, Ellen. Uh, I'll see you soon.

254. Pop-Pop! Look how high I can go!

255. (CHUCKLES) Yeah, that's good.

256. You be careful.

257. Want to do a couple more?

258. Yeah, let's do another one. All right.

259. Yeah?

260. This is he.

261. Meet at what time?

262. Yeah. I can be there.

263. You let her know.

264. Yeah.

265. All right, baby, time to get you back to your mama.

266. Five more minutes?

267. Oh, honey, come on.

268. Please? (SIGHS)

269. Five minutes.

270. You're on the clock.

271. (CHUCKLING) Thank you.

272. Good afternoon.

273. Yeah. Madrigal Electromotive?

274. Straight down the hall, the Sandia Room on your left.

275. Thank you. Mmm-hmm.

276. Oh, good. Take a seat.

277. You didn't come all this way just for me.

278. I frequently travel to conference with distributors.

279. Albuquerque's one of many stops.

280. Hmm.

281. Okay.

282. I'm just... (SIGHS)

283. Looking for an explanation.

284. You steal an employee's badge,

285. waltz through my warehouse, interfere with operations,

286. and strong-arm my facility manager.

287. Why?

288. I'm on your books as a security consultant.

289. If I show my face in your warehouse,

290. it makes for a better cover story.

291. Anyone ever asks if I was there, I was.

292. Plus, you had a few things that needed correcting,

293. so consider it a bonus.

294. That's not the point.

295. This is meant to be a paper transaction.

296. You sit at home, and we pay you, your own money.

297. Doing what you did the way you did it

298. raises the threat of exposure.

299. The way I see it, it lowers the threat.

300. Like I said, now there's a face to the name that cashes the check.

301. So, what's your plan then?

302. Madrigal has eight terminals in the southwest.

303. One down, seven to go.

304. Uh-huh.

305. And if I asked you to reconsider...

306. I'd ask you to do the same.

307. At the moment, you have Gus Fring's respect.

308. I'd want to keep that if I were you.

309. Hello. Hi.

310. Sorry to interrupt.

311. Dr. Diseth, this is Dr. Maureen Bruckner,

312. just arrived this morning.

313. Nice to meet you. Hello.

314. Dr. Bruckner.

315. Dr. Bruckner is visiting from Johns Hopkins,

316. and we're asking her to take the lead

317. with some of the more severe cases in the ward,

318. including Mr. Salamanca.

319. Johns Hopkins? Yes. A generous grant came through,

320. which allowed Dr. Bruckner to lend us her expertise.

321. Only temporarily.

322. I'm not here to step on any toes.

323. Okay, I... Well, our staff can help with the database

324. whenever you're ready to pull records,

325. but I'm available anytime if you have any questions.

326. Thank you.

327. Again, I... I don't want to step on toes.

328. We can co-manage care, if you like. We...

329. No. No. Uh, he's all yours.

330. (CHUCKLES) Thank you. Good luck.

331. Okay, um, well, I will let you get to it then.

332. Let us know if there's anything you need, anything at all.

333. DR. Absolutely.

334. Thank you.

335. Are you the family?

336. When did they get here?

337. Mmm.

338. Don't worry. We're still running things.

339. DR. Okay.

340. Don Hector...

341. Yes?

342. It's me. Can we meet?

343. Now is not a good time. I'm in town.

344. I can easily meet wherever's convenient.

345. Assume this is a secure line.

346. I spoke with your security contractor.

347. I explained the situation again,

348. but he's going to keep doing what he's doing.

349. I understand.

350. But what he's doing makes no sense.

351. Do his reasons matter?

352. They do if he's unreliable.

353. He is reliable.

354. So I'm just supposed to let him

355. keep stealing my employees' badges?

356. I don't know where he's gonna turn up next,

357. what disruption he's going to cause,

358. what mess I'm gonna have to clean up.

359. This isn't something I want to spend my time worrying about.

360. Then I suggest you give the man a badge.

361. Varga and Salamanca's man, Colon,

362. they came by in the afternoon.

363. Nephews were in his room all day.

364. Bruckner saw him three times, couple of specialists with her.

365. They took him for a brain scan.

366. And?

367. That's everything. No change.

368. You want me back at the hospital?

369. No.

370. Call Victor.

371. Have him meet us.

372. Just a few more.

373. I know Chuck was thorough,

374. but even I didn't think there was gonna be this much paperwork.

375. Having worked with him as long as I did,

376. I was actually pleasantly surprised by his restraint.

377. This is the agreement for the transfer of property, as discussed.

378. Mmm-hmm. If you can initial here...

379. And right down here.

380. Am I late? Kim. No. Right on time.

381. We were just finishing up Rebecca's side of things.

382. Hi, Rebecca.

383. It's nice to see you again.

384. I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to talk more at the service.

385. Oh, well, I don't think anyone felt much like talking.

386. Jimmy's not coming.

387. I'm here on his behalf.

388. And that should do it.

389. I apologize for bringing us together

390. so soon after Chuck's service.

391. Um, it's really my fault. Howard's being polite.

392. Thank you, Julie.

393. In any event... (SIGHS)

394. We thought since Rebecca was still in town,

395. better to talk through the estate in person.

396. Sure.

397. Chuck left the house to Rebecca,

398. and, as executor, I'll be liquidating the property.

399. Uh, Howard suggested, and of course I agree,

400. that it would be the right thing

401. for Jimmy to go through whatever survived and take whatever he wants.

402. I mean, anything with sentimental value.

403. We can set up a time.

404. The estate can provide a truck and storage

405. for anything he chooses to keep.

406. That's okay.

407. Jimmy doesn't want any of it.

408. You sure?

409. I... I think the garage is pretty intact,

410. uh, except for some water damage.

411. He doesn't want it. Thank you.

412. Okay. I understand.

413. Well, then, as far as Jimmy's concerned,

414. all that's left is for him to sign this agreement letter.

415. Once that's done, we can disperse

416. his share of the estate.

417. Let me guess. $4,000?

418. $5,000.

419. It's what you give when you want to cut someone out of a will

420. but not have it contested,

421. just enough money to show the recipient wasn't forgotten.

422. Chuck also left a substantial endowment

423. for a scholarship for deserving youth.

424. I was hoping Jimmy would agree to serve on the board.

425. I'll let him know.

426. What else?

427. Well, Chuck left Jimmy a personal letter.

428. His eyes only.

429. Howard, thank you for everything that you've done.

430. I know it's been difficult.

431. It's hard on all of us.

432. Well, I don't want to keep you.

433. Let me walk you out.

434. Actually, Howard, we have a few more things to discuss.

435. Uh, Kim, please give Jimmy my best.

436. I will.

437. It was very nice seeing you, Rebecca.

438. You too.

439. Safe travels.

440. (SIGHS) Kim.

441. I just, uh...

442. I just had to know.

443. What were you thinking?

444. About?

445. What were you thinking when you came to Jimmy

446. on the day of his brother's funeral

447. and laid that shit on him?

448. That Chuck killed himself?

449. What's wrong with you?

450. I... I thought...

451. I thought I owed it to Jimmy to tell him.

452. Owed it to him?

453. Did you owe it to Rebecca?

454. You tell her your theory?

455. That Chuck intentionally set himself on fire?

456. I guess not.

457. I guess you just saved that one for Jimmy.

458. Kim, I didn't do it to hurt Jimmy.

459. No. You did it to make yourself feel better.

460. That... That's not what I was trying to do. To make yourself feel better

461. by unloading your guilt.

462. Who cares what it does to Jimmy, right,

463. as long as Howard Hamlin is okay?

464. Kim, I... I don't think that's fair.

465. Fair?

466. Let's talk about fair.

467. Hey, let's let Jimmy dig around the fire-damaged wreck

468. where his brother died screaming!

469. And then let's let him pick up a keepsake or two.

470. That is so, so fair!

471. And did I hear you right?

472. You want him to serve on the board of a scholarship committee?

473. A scholarship that Chuck never in a million years would have given to Jimmy.

474. Never!

475. It is just... I mean...

476. Oh, what's this, too, huh, Howard?

477. What's in this?

478. One last, "Screw you, little brother," from beyond the grave?

479. Am I really supposed to do this to him?

480. (VOICE SHAKING) All right, Kim.

481. (NORMAL VOICE) What can I do to make it better?

482. Nothing.

483. There is nothing you can do.

484. Just stay away.

485. Hey.

486. I hope you're hungry. I bought way too much food.

487. Uh, yeah, I can always eat.

488. Counter or couch?

489. Uh, couch is good.

490. Couch it is.

491. If I remember correctly, in, uh, five minutes,

492. one of the classic-movie channels is showing,

493. uh, White Heat without interruption.

494. The other is showing Jaws 3 with commercials,

495. so a real Sophie's choice.

496. It is Jaws 3-D, to be exact.

497. Ah.

498. But Cagney wins this one.

499. All right.

500. Hey, I got us, uh, Thai iced teas,

501. unless you want me to pour you something

502. a little less non-alcoholic.

503. No. I'm good with that.

504. So, how was the job search?

505. Pretty good. I, uh, got a couple leads.

506. Actually, I got an offer.

507. Really? Yeah.

508. But, uh, it didn't feel quite right.

509. It was, uh... It just wasn't a perfect fit.

510. But I think I might get a call back

511. on one or two of the others.

512. Wow. This was a pretty good first day.

513. You know, somebody's gonna be lucky to get you.

514. (EXHALES SHARPLY) And how was your day?

515. I just mostly stayed here.

516. Trying to get organized.

517. No pressure from Paige and Kevin,

518. but I got to get back on the horse, right?

519. You are right.

520. And, uh, the movie's about to start.

521. So, where is the remote?

522. Phew.

523. I'm not available at the moment.

524. Leave a message. (LINE BEEPS)

525. (SNIFFS) Hey. It's me.

526. Listen, I got something for you.

527. It's a job.

528. I think you're really gonna like this, so call me.

529. We're taking six tonight.

530. What?

531. Six keys. It's what the boss would want.

532. You gonna back me up or what?

533. Yeah.

534. Where's the rest?

535. I only see five.

536. That was a one-time-only.

537. Not the way we see it.

538. That's the way it is.

539. Salamancas get six.

540. We're not leaving without six.

541. Your boss isn't giving orders.

542. He can barely even open his eyes.

543. I'm giving the orders.

544. Take the five or leave with nothing.

545. Do you want to go?

546. You heard him.

547. Six.

548. Put it away.

549. You really want to do this?

550. Yeah. That's what I thought.

551. That's how you do it.

552. We had them pissing their pants.

553. I know what you've done.

554. The Salamancas, they do not.

555. Do you understand what I'm saying?

556. Look at me.

557. From now on, you are mine.
