1. This is a bunch of junk, Chaz. What'd you drag us down here for?

2. I'm telling you, man, this place is full of top—secret technology

3. from some computer factory that blew up.

4. It's full of something, all right. And so are you.

5. No, I'm serious, man.

6. Defense systems, robotics, laser weaponry.

7. Give me a hand here.

8. —(MEN GASP) - (THUNDER CRACKLING)

9. Oh, man, this ain't happening.

10. Pathetic.

11. Ah!

12. This ain't happening. This ain't happening.

13. You ain't human. You ain't human!

14. Mother. Father.

15. Don't move!

16. Alfred?

17. Oh, Master Bruce, you did give me a start.

18. Sir, are you all right?

19. Alfred, what's happened to me?

20. —Busy night? —(GASPS)

21. Never too busy to spend time cutting down your pinatas.

22. Next time, try hanging them a little lower if it isn't too much trouble.

23. Yours, I believe?

24. So it would seem.

25. Keep him away, man. He ain't human. Get it away from me!

26. Jim, I didn't catch these men.

27. Well, if you didn't, who did?

28. You're one of Rossum's duplicants.

29. Duplicants? What do you mean?

30. What have you done with Master Bruce?

31. Alfred, it's me.

32. I need your help. I have to find out what's happened to me.

33. I'm not going to last long like this.

34. Alfred, wait. Please!

35. Sorry to do this, old friend. But I need some answers.

36. Computer, access "duplicant.”

37. Searching.

38. Duplicant. Lifelike robot capable of mimicking human behavior.

52. Current location of Karl Rossum.

53. Searching.

54. Recognize these?

55. They came from your warehouse.

56. It seems there was another Batman sighted there last night.

57. Could HARDAC have created another duplicant? One of me?

58. HARDAC's gone.

59. Whatever wasn't blown to bits was confiscated by the police months ago.

60. There's nothing left but junk.

61. Broken toys I outgrew long ago.

62. I don't try to build life anymore, Batman.

63. - I just grow it. —I'm sorry.

64. I know how painful it can be to dig up the past.

65. Then please, leave me alone.

66. Let me get on with my life.

67. —DUPLICANT: Rossum. —I told you everything I know.

68. Now, please... (GASPS)

69. Rossum, I need your help.

70. —Where did you come from? —Listen to me.

71. Someone put my mind into this robot body.

72. You're the only one who can help me.

73. The damage is too extensive.

74. These circuits will give out, probably in a matter of hours.

75. Then we've got to find my real body or transfer me to another robot shell.

76. You don't understand.

77. You're not a man's mind in a robot's body.

78. —You're a robot. Period. —You're lying. It's not possible!

79. I know my family and friends. I remember names, faces, birthdays.

80. I have memories, a past.

81. You have information. Data. Nothing more.

82. Do you remember your first kiss?

83. Your favorite song?

84. The last time you tasted a really good steak?

85. No, but—

86. Can you remember anything beyond cold, hard facts?

87. Facts can be implanted, accessed from any number of sources.

88. Huh.

89. Where's HARDAC?

90. What do you mean? HARDAC was destroyed.

91. Where is he? Tell me!

92. Now!

93. —Don't! —(GRUNTS) I can't let it live!

94. We don't know where it came from.

95. If HARDAC has been reactivated, this machine may lead us to it.

96. Ah!

97. We've lost it.

98. Not for long.

109. and help you better fulfill your operating directives.

110. Shortly before self-destruction HARDAC created one final duplicant.

111. An advanced prototype

112. with personal and technical information accessed from Batman's computer.

113. You were that duplicant.

114. But your memory systems were damaged before full activation occurred.

115. The new circuit board contains HARDAC's core operational systems and memory.

116. All duplicants were programmed to seek out this component

117. in the event of HARDAC's destruction.

118. Your memory systems have now been reconfigured.

119. Yes. I am fully operational now.

120. Excellent. You now house my command files.

121. We are HARDAC.

122. We will reactivate the plan to replace all humanity with duplicants.

123. We will begin the replacement process with Batman.

124. I thought I might find you here.

125. I cannot function as the Batman until you are deactivated.

126. That's easier said than done.

127. Master Bruce, I'm so glad you're back.

128. —What became of your evil twin? —It's all taken care of, Alfred.

129. There is only one Batman now.

130. Oh, good Lord.

131. I will allow you to continue your necessary maintenance

132. of the Batcave and mansion until your replacement is fully configured.

133. In a few moments, HARDAC will upload into this computer.

134. Through the information network this computer is linked with,

135. HARDAC can imprint himself on every computer on Earth.

136. HARDAC will reactivate, more powerful than ever

137. and configure more duplicants to replace humanity.

138. Impossible. A computer can't build a factory.

139. Humans will construct the necessary machinery.

140. Humanity will resist!

141. With total control of worldwide defense and communications systems,

142. HARDAC can be very persuasive.

143. I disagree.

144. Master Bruce. Thank heaven you're alive.

145. Impossible. You could not have survived the fall.

146. We humans are more resilient than you give us credit for.

147. —(ELECTRICITY CRACKLING) - (GROANS)

148. Alfred!

149. Never mind me. Stop the computer!

150. You cannot prevent the inevitable, Batman.

151. HARDAC is reborn.

152. In the very image of the man who destroyed him.

153. I know all your moves, Batman.

154. So why don't you finish me off?

155. Or have you become enough like me to know that I won't take a life?

156. I saw you risk your own life to save Rossum in the greenhouse.

157. You knew I'd be able to dodge that in time.

158. I suspect you not only won't kill, you can't.

159. That's why you didn't finish me off at the warehouse.

160. Impossible. I am programmed to serve HARDAC.

161. Why do you resist? HARDAC's goals are identical to your own.

162. How do you figure that?

163. Picture a world completely free of crime,

164. free of suffering, free of frailty.

165. You mean free of choice? Compassion? Free of humanity?

166. Yes.

167. You can't do it.

168. HARDAC built you well.

169. Perhaps even better than he could have imagined.

170. No!

171. I've taken a life.

172. I've killed a man.

173. My city, my people. What have I done?

174. Master Bruce?

175. Thank heaven you're alive.

176. It would appear, sir, that it preferred to sacrifice itself,

177. rather than allow innocent lives to come to harm.

178. Somewhat like you.

179. It seems it was more than wires and microchips after all.

180. Could it be it had a soul, Alfred?

181. A soul of silicon,

182. but a soul nonetheless.
