13. will become just another statistic.

14. In 2014, construction worker Lee Bellot,

15. got an unexpected opportunity

16. to fulfill a lifelong dream of opening a bar.

17. My mom, she was like my best friend in the whole wide world.

18. When I lost my mother, my whole world really crashed.

19. I was really going through a deep depression

20. and things weren't that great for me.

21. And, I knew she wanted me to have a bar & grill

22. 'cause that was one of my dreams

23. and she left some money behind for me.

24. So I took that money and put it into that dream.

25. This bar is located in a real industrial part of Hayward.

26. There is no other competition.

27. I thought I would've been really successful.

28. When I first got this place,

29. our sales was up about 50 grand a month.

30. Customers would come in, they would eat longer, drink,

31. enjoy each other's company, watch the game.

32. Those days are long gone.

33. New to the bar business, inexperienced Lee

103. There's not a lot of bars in this area.

104. There's not a lot of food competition around here.

105. - No, there isn't. - Being one of the few bars around here,

106. - they should be busy, right? - They should be.

107. For the bar, Jon brings in Lisamarie Joyce,

108. a mixologist and trainer

109. known for her dynamic personality.

110. Lisamarie can teach any novice bartender the basics and beyond.

111. For the kitchen, Jon brings in

112. Chef Aaron McCargo, an expert at designing food programs

113. built for efficiency and value.

114. This is an industrial area,

115. so these streets get quiet by 5:30-6:00 at night.

116. So this bar does a lot of its business in the daytime,

117. for lunch, for happy hour.

118. The great thing about a bar like this, though,

119. is if you can attach yourself to the guys

120. that are working within two blocks,

121. you can get 'em almost every day.
