1. Your mother's so wrong, she has no heart,

2. she's got a dollar bill for a heart

3. and she doesn't give a damn about her family.

4. Never said that to anybody.

5. That's so much bull.

6. This year, 6500 failing bars nationwide

7. will close their doors for good.

8. If things don't change soon, Paddy's Pub in Pahrump, Nevada

9. will become just another statistic.

10. In 2006, Pat Rodgers bought Paddy's Pub.

11. A former roadhouse bar in the rural town of Pahrump.

12. I was the boss.

13. My mom owned the bar and ran it for about 9 years.

14. And I was the on site general manager.

15. - Football is on Sunday. - Right. - And Monday.

16. In the beginning, Paddy's Pub was well received.

17. And met with a great deal of local support and business.

18. The town was a bit of a boom back then.

19. So times were good. Everything we did was gold.

20. For Pat, the bar was more than just an investment.

21. It was a future for her son, Russ.

22. Our goal was to put Russ in a position

23. where he would have a job for the future.

24. She agreed to step back, and let me step up

25. and take the day to day operations of the bar.

28. Within six months of taking over,

29. Russ and his staff began to play at the bar,

30. That sounded bad didn't it.

31. To make matters worse, Russ was diagnosed

32. with corneal degeneration. An eye disease that causes

33. loss of vision over time.

34. I'm going blind. And there's nothing to describe that.

35. rely on his untrained staff to pick up the slack.

36. I lean very heavily on Tawna.

37. I was originally hired on just to do

38. a couple of hours a week.

39. As Russ' vision deteriorated,

40. my job duties have increased tenfold.

41. There's some behind the bar.

42. She tries to hold it all together. - Yeah.

43. She does a great job at it.

44. But she is in over her head.

45. And as business dwindled,

46. Russ had to once again, go to his mom for help.

47. Hey Mom, I took over the bar,

48. and I need 26,000 dollars.

49. But, it wasn't enough.

50. I had to also borrow about 15,000 dollars from Tawna.

51. And it is horrible.

53. My entire life is wrapped up with this pub.

55. I have two kids at home that I also have to be worried about.

56. Now, 18 months into his ownership,

57. Russ has racked up massive debt and has a strained

58. relationship with his mother over finances.

59. I get the figures. And I haven't seen any tremendous changes.

60. I've taken well over 100,000 dollars in debt.

61. This is everyone's livelihood, including my own.

62. I don't want to help anymore. I can't!

63. It could be as short as a month until the bar closes.

64. And I need help.

65. With a strained relationship on the line,

66. and his eyesight nearly gone,

67. Russ and Pat have agreed to pull back the doors,

68. bust open the books, and make a call for help,

78. and get yourself a free drink.

81. You can barely see the thing.

82. So it makes this our largest challenge ever.

83. Isn't just a building. Isn't just a competition,

84. isn't just the fact that you see any cars on this road?

85. No. The population is only 13,800 people.

86. There aren't a lot of people to impact, man,

87. we're in the middle of nowhere, Jon.

88. For the bar,

125. He blew 100,000 dollars on remodeling.

126. And equipment and things.

481. A lot of mishaps.

482. What I did see was a lot of imbalance in the drinks.

483. We've always pushed to use the jiggers.

484. Because over pouring is definitely a problem.

485. You had a bartender who was actually pouring using a jigger,

486. moved the jigger, and then kept pouring.

487. This whole time since I've been bartending I've been using

488. the half side of the jigger instead of the one ounce.

489. And I'm guilty, that was me.

490. We're gonna get into some cocktail making.

491. I'm gonna show you guys a few things

492. that we're gonna do for stress test tonight.

493. These cocktails are very easy, very simple.

494. We're gonna start off with a play off a Manhattan.

495. We're gonna be using Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey.

496. We're gonna do one and a half ounces.

497. Half an ounce of sweet vermouth.

498. And a couple dashes of bitters.

499. Stir and chill it down to temp.

500. Strain it over fresh ice.

501. Garnish it with an orange peel.

502. We call this one the Pahrump and Honey.

503. Tawna, I would love to bring you back here

537. so we're gonna take baby steps, start off nice and slow.

813. This is phenomenal whiskey bonded with a honey liqueur.

829. and strain it over fresh ice in a rocks glass.

830. Garnish it with a fresh lemon.
