42. continues his sensational war against crime.

43. Addressing a cheering crowd of 20,000 irate citizens

44. at a mass meeting

45. in the Metropolis Auditorium last night,

46. Superman named the 12 leading public enemies

47. and pledged himself to see to it

48. that each and every one of them

49. would either be run out of town or put behind bars.

50. Five of the gangsters have already been eliminated,

51. and only a few hours ago,

52. speaking at a breakfast meeting of the Women's Federation,

53. Superman indicated that Phil "Shortcake" Mitchell,

54. long notorious as a slot-machine racketeer,

55. was no longer an enemy of the public.

56. He further indicated that Duke Pizanno was next on the list.

57. What are we gonna do, boss?

58. They picked up Pizanno yesterday and Mitchell the day before.

59. They're filling the jails with our boys,

60. and Superman says Ed and me are next on his list.

61. What are we gonna do?

62. Hold it, Tony.

63. I wanted to see how far they'd go.

75. and those mobsters still at large are cowering with fear

76. as Superman continues his crusade against organized crime

77. with unabated fury.

79. Nick Marone, public-enemy number three,

80. has just been taken into custody.

82. in Superman's sensational one-man war

83. against organized crime.

84. Big Ed Bullock, generally acknowledged

85. the number-two crime boss of the city of Metropolis,

86. was caught in the dragnet today

87. less than an hour after Superman

88. brought public enemy number three, Nick Marone,

89. in for questioning.

90. It is understood that Police Inspector Henderson

91. will put both racketeers through a rigorous grilling.

92. Although the police admit

93. having nothing on either Marone or Bullock,

94. they hope to learn from them

95. the identity of the number-one man

96. who controls the far-flung city-and-state crime empire.

97. Up to a few minutes ago,

98. reports from police headquarters indicated

99. that neither Marone nor Bullock would talk,

100. and that efforts were being made

101. to secure their release on bail.

102. It is understood that Superman is standing by at headquarters

103. in the hope that one of the gangsters will break,

104. and reveal the identity of the number-one man.

105. And that is how the situation stands at the moment.

106. Although 11 known racketeers have been taken into custody,

107. the identity of the number-one man, the big boss,

108. is still shrouded in mystery.
